    I run the same truck. The ‘lag’ is actually for emissions reasons. If you put lots of fuel in at low rpm’s then the engine smokes and the DPF plugs up faster. So they back the fuel off until the engine gets more air then they pump up the fuel. If you roll on the throttle just ahead of the rpms climbing you can catch it off guard and get some real power out of it. If you just mash the throttle it will lag.
    Also you can go from 2wd to 4hi at highway speeds. I do it at 60 mph all the time. With the winters up here in Canada you have to go in and out all the time. Love the vids.

      @rsg1963 3 роки тому +3

      @S W That's not actually accurate. The reason for the lag is torque management. With 1,000+ torque the tranny, driveshaft and/or axles will be destroyed at low rpm. Torque management will be incorporated upon initial acceleration, between shifts and is incorporated into the lower gears at all times. Sucks but get why they do it.

      @@resharddurdley6987 I get the purpose behind torque management, rigs have been doing it forever. RAM has stated they don’t do it, but I know it’s a topic of conversation within the forums. Wether they do it or not, emissions is also at play. I haven’t found anyone that has left the trucks completely stock with emissions and just programmed the torque management out. Nothing else changed, and see if the trucks still de-fuel do to emissions. Would be an interesting experiment.

    Thank you for the review I think you’re the first person to have compared these trucks back to back.Keep in mind something I am a heavy truck mechanic I can tell you that when the truck is brand new they don’t always give you all the power. First off the engines are tight they are brand new , The rings are not seated they will perform a lot better after 10,000 miles or so,Especially if you do some heavy towing. Some manufacturers program into the PCM a reduced power mode for the first thousand miles or so this may be more so on the newer higher output version. Once the engine gets say 50 hours on it that will go away and you’ll get the full power. I don’t know if ram does this or not, but it’s a possibility.I think the bigger test Between 1000 and 1075 ftlb version be when your towing

    • @JB_WhoWork

      @@JB_WhoWork I’m glad you noticed it with your own truck it’s very noticeable it seems like if the truck is kept up well it will keep gaining power right up to at least 100,000 miles maybe even longer depending on how well the emissions systems hold up. I heard you commenting about the delay in the pedal I’ll be honest with you that is pretty common with Cummins we have L9 engines in our international and Mack trucks and they also have a slight delay it really is more to do with the emission system and I honestly believe that it reduces soot loading and is there for long term durability. Ram seems to take longevity pretty seriously,And they should especially considering how

I'm finding out through some friends of mine that have 2017 or newer Ford and GM trucks that they are fast but for some reason they are having issues. I believe the reason for the difference in speed is related to gearing. The Diesel engines do not rev that fast and are plenty powerful to move the truck. So opposite to a car the lower ratio will actually accelerate faster. This is due to Less time shifting and more in gear applying power to ground.

  • @flightfanatic1
    @flightfanatic1 3 роки тому

    I'm not gonna make it an excuse for Ram because they do need to update their stuff, however something I needs to be taken into account is the stall speed of the converter. The lower stall speed will make the converter more efficient at a lower RPM, and so if you have a Ford or a GM and Ram put them on a hill and literally just let the brake go on drive the ram ball go up the hill easier because a converter is more efficient and lower RPMs. Vice versa at higher are you RPMs the converter is going to start and it won't be as efficient and will feel extremely slow, this is why the 68 RFE feels faster than the AISIN. When your flooring at the converter won't lock as easily and so it will feel extremely slow. If you want to feel the torque on it, you have to wait until it ships into fourth gear and the locks it's torque converter and it is in her lower p.m. and just give it about 10% throttle and you'll feel the difference since it has a direct connection with the engine. for towing purposes i this low speed converter makes sense because it will get off the line easier we get without giving it too much throttle and giving you colder temperatures since there is less slippage. I'm tow hall mode the torque converter will lock up in second gear and stay locked throughout the gear ranges. This is why people describe the Cummins engine as having a torquier feeling
    But if you want to get to the weeds of it, you cannot physically feel Torque because torque is not a measurement of work, it is a measurement of a force that is turning, and the force can either be delivered slowly or fast and depending at what speed the force is being delivered we call that a measurement of work, or horsepower typically when people describe a torque feeling, what they are actually feeling is low RPM horsepower that is generated by a high amount of torque. But what they are truly feeling is horsepower

USA and Canada, when you’re going to get the new one is still the big question, but at least if your CP4 fails, you’ll be covered under the recall, but what I really like is the much bigger fuel tank. The Ford w/4.30s will definitely feel faster than a Ram w/ 3.73s. I really think Ram will make a splash with with either a full-on 5th-gen HD for 2022(just in time for the updated 1500 as well) or at the very least update the trans. Ford will be getting the new cab for 2022(and GM trucks will be getting overhauled), so there is no way Ram will cede that much ground. I’m not too surprised. Gearing doesn’t always do what you think it will. 4.10 could be slower than 3.73 because it takes more revolutions of the pinion gear than the 3.73 in order to turn the tires 1 full revolution. The added torque and HP seems like just enough to keep the acceleration the same on these 2 trucks with the different gear ratios.
    We’re talking 5% more HP and 7.5% more torque with a difference of 9% on the gear ratios.

    I have yet to purchase one mainly due to the fact I pick my 2021 up next Monday and have nit driven it, and because the manufacturers put that lag time in for reason.
    I wondered if that lag was the manufacturer's way of managing the torque and saving the trans....Another person commented that it's due to emessions......so I am still intrigued by Banks Pedal Monster......at any rate have you considered reviewing one or trying out?

At the end if the day I do not use my truck for bussiness and it came down to 2 main items for me which swayed my decision from the superduty to the RAM.

    JB, towing with an Aisin vs 68rfe, have you noticed a difference? Driving them empty I didn’t notice a difference except with the Aisin, the column shifter felt stiffer/firmer.

    • @JB_WhoWork
      @JB_WhoWork  3 роки тому +1

      I feel like the Aisin holds the gears slightly better and acceleration from a dig and cruising is slightly better. Biggest advantage is longevity and if you tow constantly the Aisin will hold up better 👍🏾

      Thanks for your input. My biggest dislike for the 68rfe is the insane shift flare when slowing down going from 3 to 2. It’s terrible! I’m looking at getting a dually. I don’t need one, but I like how they look and enjoyed having one for a rental from Enterprise. A limited dually with a Hemi and 4.10 gears....does that sound stupid or no? I’m not towing over 12k, so I don’t need a HO, but would consider that too.

    Lag has nothing to do with the transmission😂😂😂😂. Just buy The Pedal Monster from Banks to fix that “DRIVE BY WIRE LAG”. Just so you know, GM and Ford are having issues wither 10 speeds and the inline 6 has a certain torque that works well with the 6 speed Aisin. Take a 30,000# load and stop on a 20% grade and pull it from a stand still. Only the Ram can do it it, this is why Ford and GM removed this from standard testing. 😂😂😂😂. It’s not about racing, it’s about managing the load safely without exploding.😂😂😂😂😂

    Your were talking about the turbo lag is what your delay is called I am truck tech. What you have keep in mind that engine is same engine used on medium duty trucks . Bare block it’s same it’s been that all the way back to the 16 valve engine freight liner uses this engine a lot. On bigger truck Example most ambulances freight liner badage or tow truck has same engine . They change computer. Oil cooler in. Lot cases it’s same turbo . You go Cummins truck shop lot of the have lane just for dodge they used do warranty work long as it was Cummins part

    400hp@2800rpm is only 750lbft
    420hp@2800rpm is only 787lbft
    It's a far cry from GMs 445hp(835lbft@2800) and Fords 475hp(959.5lbft@2600) Ram has a way to go to catch up. The 1000lbft/6spd barely kept up to GMs less torque and superior Gearing, and doesn't hold a candle to Ford with more power through the entire powerband(1600-2600rpm) Torque is the ability to do work. Hp is how fast the amount of work is done.
    1000lbft@1313rpm is 250hp
    1000lbft@2626rpm is 500hp
    1000lbft@3939rpm is 750hp
    1000lbft@5252rpm is 1000hp
    All the same amount of work just last is 4 times as fast. Thats is how the GM with the 10speed and a 3.42 kept just ahead of the 1000lbft 2020 Ram on TFLs IKE Gauntlet. Advantage is torque manipulation because it's a real force. Where HP is a calculation/equation.

      Ram mirrors are basically the BEST out there with Ford next and GM not even coming to the party. You clearly have never towed with Ram mirrors. Honestly, tow with them. Every Ford and Chevy guy I know at least admits to 2 things: 1) Cummins beats everything (even if they hate the rest of the truck) 2) Ram mirrors are the best (except for their lack of control on the older ones. The arms did not swing in electronically and the convex was not remotely adjustable way back when...a few years ago, lol.) But the actual length, width and overall size of them is superior.
