Most people who love golf are more bothered about playing golf and lowering their handicap they might watch the majors and ryder cup most people i know are not bothered about LIV/PGA tour . It really makes no difference to us we are still going to love golf.
What LIV does right is that its the same top field playing every week in and week out. I think that trumps the lesser PGA Tour events where you hardly ever see more than 3 or 4 of the top 30 players. I do agree that LIV is perhaps too "closed". I would like to see squads of 5 for example, when you as a team captain can select the 4 players for an event. Maybe also have a wild card team that changes weekly. The biggest gripe I have with hokf media including youtube alternate media is that for some reason really actually aknowleding LIV when discussing it is setiously lacking. Its like there is this virtue signalling going on where you have to talk about LIV as some golf league happening on another planet to that no one has proper information on. Things like "I think Rahm plays for a team called Legion 13” like seriously. Too many golf journalists and content creators are trying too hard to keep their PGA links healthy for the gowth of their channels and in the process they are making a mockery of their golf coverage for the average golf fan. I'm waiting for the moment that LIV catches onto the golf creator scene to see how some if these guys will quickly change their tune.
Only one problem, and it's a major one that led to the LIV creation. That's ownership of the media rights of the players. That was one of Phil's biggest complaints.
It's a bit of an amalgam of a number of issues. PGA TV viewship is tanking. Less exposure equals less bang for buck for sponsors. With so many names gone to LIV the PGA appears dull. The start of this year was largely unknown first time winners for weeks. Nice for them, but doesn't pull in audiences. The rise of YT golf viewship is also having an impact. Particularly now we can regularly see the likes of Bryson, Sergio, Rahmbo and Phil M; but we can't see the PGA guys due to image rights. I now watch YT, a bit of LIV, and the majors
The second theory sounds more realistic. I thought the non signature events were unwatchable and uninteresting because no names competing. They should replace some of these events with combined PGA/ Liv events. Dropping these event sponsors would be commish’s biggest problem that’s why it’s taking so long.
DP world tour exec is heading down the right path by using the ICC model. Disney and Viacom paid over $6 billion USD for the broadcast rights 2023-27 for the IPL in India alone. This competition attracts the best cricketers in the world without interfering with other cricket competitions.
The ICC has world rankings, but there's more than one rank since they play 3 different versions of the sport. The world golf rankings will need a no.1 stroke play...no.1 match play etc etc
When I started watching golf in the 90s. All the best Europeans played on the European tour. All the best Americans played on the PGA tour. And then for the big tournaments and majors they all mixed. Apperance-money was often paid to get an american star to come play a mid-level event in Europe and vice versa. Its been done before.
So many layers to this topic. The FedEx Fall has basically become a Q School for the players who aren't locked into the top 125. Ya think that's why Sanderson Farms, Shriners, etc., are dropping out? Sponsors aren't getting an attractive ROI when Rahm, Bryson, Brooks et al, are gone. That's also part of the reason TV viewership is down in addition to the broadcasts being inundated with commercials due to what the PGA Tour charged the networks for media rights. Most professional golfers, at the higher levels, don't want to play more than 18 to 22 events in a year. How does that equate to January to December golf? Coming up with a model where the players can move around and play different leagues when they choose will be a major challenge. And then there's the TGL(Tiger and Rory's simulator league on ESPN) that's scheduled to begin this January. Will sponsorships go away with the injection of billions of dollars from the PIF? Golf hasn't always had corporate sponsorship of events. Look back 40 or 50 years 🤔
There are multiple ways this can work. Likely LIV will have 2 full time members on a team, their biggest names, then they have two open positions for their events. Players will be able to come in and out and play events. LIV my guess will wind back to about 10 events a year with events where they work. This will help add profile to LIV and allow some of the never "livers" still say they are playing invitational events. For the captains and hard core LIV guys who own the teams like Smith/Bryson, will probably play a few PGA events when it suits leading into majors and where they have former sponsors. The schedule will be set up so the two don't clash for big events. LIV will be the dominant product in the Northern hemisphere off season, with a trip to SA as well as Australia / middle East. A few US and European (England/Spain) will be salted into the peak season. What really will matter to us in countries like Australia is that as we move towards a proper world tour, that ranking points are a real global thing, this will give players a reason to come to some of the most famous opens around the world before PGAT turned golf into a stadium circuit circus where if you were not playing on PGAT it did not matter. Politics will be trumped by $$$$$ for those who are confused.
Arguing that the owgr isn’t dragging their feet for leverage makes you lose so much credibility. There are precedents of tours getting points from owgr for literally everything LIv does. Bryson has talked about it. Always super worried with anything that involves pga tour brass which even before LIv go from one mess to another, and each adjustment is worse than the last. As always I see LIv having their 10-12 events with mostly everyone playing every event. You could have a tiger or someone too old to play the whole seasons play as a wild card. But the single biggest best part of LIv is that everyone plays everything. The pga tour needs to drop its required events in half from 15 to 8. The big events will be full field. The smaller events will be opposite LIv events. They will have Thursday mostly to them selves. And if it’s a good event people will watch LIv and the opposite pga tour event. The DP world tour is fine as it is for the most part. They are a feeder tour to both the pga tour and LIv. They don’t require too many events. And they have big events late in the year which LIv and the pga tour do not. It’s perfect.
@@oahujuniorgolfassociationc6656 not sure that many really want to play in the American tour. They want some select events only some want to play. But LIV will still be their tour.
They solve world ranking points per my other content, if LIV is say 10 events a year then the matched weeks these are on then the parallel PGAT/DP/Asian tour also don't have points only prize money...... that way there is true equity as the LIV players in theory can come back on play on the other tours in the other 42 weeks if they wanted too.
While that guy might have layed out potentially what a combined structure looks like there was no mention about the tens of millions or in some cases the hundreds of millions LIV paid out to their playing field [net net] to lure PGA golfers from the tour. Music and a shorter schedule and team spirit were just talking points IMO. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
The same way they give the other 3-4 tours points that are 54 holes Those tours are Mena Tour The Sunshine Big Easy tour Abema (Japan Challenge) Gira de golf professional Mexicana
As usual, you are discounting what LIV players might want. Do you really believe LIV players are willing to have all their tournaments from August to December. That schedule wouldn't give them a chance to get their game dialed in for the majors and may not allow them to set up the international tournaments where the audience is the largest. If this is truly a merger, the PGAT players should not get priority.
The PGA tour does not deserve the reverence it has falsely developed. This is based on their history of racial exclusion. Them selling out to the Saudis is much ado about nothing.
They have to merge if you watch pga now you need a program to know who’s playing ,no wonder one guy is winning most of the tournaments he only has to Beat about four guys to win ,don’t try to compare him to tiger at least tiger beat the whole field
There are only 15 - 20 players people want to see. They only want to play 15 tournaments a year. Do you even hear what you're saying?THINK. They're peddling b.s. and you're buying. 45 lavish tournaments around the world every year. Massive purses. WTF.
You tube golf is more fun to watch. There are no personalities left and the ones that are left are not shown. Lets see some clubs into the water. Xander seems cool and a few others but for the most part its dull. Pga needs younger leadership instead of the crusty morons.
I don't give a rats what they do. At this point I'm only interested in the majors. I enjoy college events and some yt golf more than the weekly bore of pro golf.
This is the beginning to the end of golf being watchable. Today, I love watching a PGA event. I wouldn’t watch a LIV event if I was paid to watch one. If this “Agreement” happens and there are weeks when there are LIV event and not a PGA event, I will look down on the PGA for caving in. If they allow LIV players to play in a PGA event, they failed PGA fans and every player who didn’t go to LIV. Leave them separate and fight for viewers. Every player that went to LIV knew what they were doing and should not get world ranking points. They traded the ability for get points for cash.
The PGA tour cant survive on its own now. if they walk away from the deal then PIF will just throw even more money at LIV until all the best are on the LIV tour. Private equity will walk away without the PIF doing a deal. You need to get used to it I think that a global tour will be happening. The majority of PGA tour events will be second rate events going forward. Only around 8-10 events a year will be worth watching.
LIV should join up with the DP WORLD Tour and instantly turn the PGA into a feeder tour for both , after all it's the PGA Tour that's destroying Golf which is why no one watches anymore. You seem to be clueless as to how and why the PGA was started in the first place , a group of players were sick of the corruption within the game, along with the complete disrespect of the players so exactly what the PGA has been doing for some years now. I advise you to watch the DP World Tour and LIV to not only understand but see for yourself how much better these Tours are compared to the boring PGA Tour and the uninteresting & robot like golfers that play on it. Pay particular interest to the massive difference in how these professional golfers interact with the crowd especially the kids. Give me one good reason why the PGAT needs LIV. And what is LIV. As seen by the American fans? It’s Dechambrau, Rahm, Koepka, and DJ. That’s LIV’s entire poker hand. They aren’t going to be taking any more big name players. They have no future player development program. LIV is gone in 3 years or less. Take those 4 back and charge them a penalty. Forget the rest. One deal. LIV fades away. The best LIV players return.
