Baby Bat chattering was very cute! Also, I have pro tip for people, who, like me, may not have room to store any and all "crinoline" periods iterations: When you sew your farthingdale (also known as an A line crinoline in wedding shops), add a flounce with a tie channel on the first "rung" of the farthingdale, one that will be half the height of the one there already, just let it rest there, it's not going to bother you in anyway. Come the time when you need a 1850 ish classic crinoline, just use the extra "flounce" as your new waistline. Changing height will give you that classic dome shape out of an A line, and honestly, if you have the right (quilted!) petticoat on top, nobody is going to know a thing. The crinoline may be a bit short, but if you're OCD like me, you can add a bottom flounce with snaps (also very cool for washing if you do anything outside, trust me) With different inner ties and those two waistband , I have ONE hoop, I repeat ONE HOOP that can be used from the Tudor farthingdale up to the bustle era... paniers included. I invested in sturdy materials... and quilted petticoats (those are pure magic!) and the thing has been a trooper for yeays now.

Talavera scolded her a lot....). Isabel countered with an apology about the farthingale, explaining it was just more comfortable than other available styles. I don't know if you talked about this in your first video but the legend is that the style was improvised by Juana of Portugal, wife of Enrique IV (of Castile (Isabel's half-brother), to hide an illegitimate pregnancy, hence, probably, Talavera's concerns.

That came out so lovely. It's amazing how adaptable the clothing is to size fluctuations - maybe that's something we can bring back to help replace fast fashion. Well done. Hope you had a very good holiday season. And may this new year (?) be full of joy. As for me, I fell into the leather sewing rabbit hole - tools are in the mail. It all started because I watched a few YT doc's on the Chanel workshops. And almost all the seamstresses have their own unique leather pin pouch to hold their needles, pins, scissors and safety pins (rectangular pouch, hangs at about apex height by a chain). Thing is a brilliant piece of bespoke technology to help get the job done. If theatre is ever a thing again I want to start volunteering with the local Am-Dram that's been around the city since the 1920's. They have vintage costumes. And a mobile sewing kit that's hands-free sounds really useful for back-stage repairs. So I'm going to try wet-molding and sewing one for myself. And I've been coming up with side projects to practice on ever since... I'm starting with leather that I'm recycling from purses and jackets I find at second hand. And any new leather I buy is going to be coming from local Native producers/hunters. Anyways. That's what I'm planning to get me through the next lockdown. Things are scaling back for the next two weeks. Then we see what we see. I hope they leave the Christmas lights on for a silly amount of time. yeah lacing really makes things so much more adjustable! super worth the extra twenty minutes it takes to get dressed haha I had a good holiday season aside from all the travel stress! hope yours was also good! aaaah that sounds like such an exciting project, and so useful! it also sounds very cute! for one of our first year projects in grad school we made a drapers apron - it's a little apron that I wear in fittings and it has pockets for pencils, seam ripper, snips, chalk, and a tape measure and the rest of the space is taken up by a big pin cushion that I fill with safety pins before each fitting. it's super cute but doesnt wear very well when I wear big skirts haha, so a little leather pouch sounds like the perfect alternate accessory! i don't think the US is going into anymore lockdowns so we've kind of self-imposed a lockdown 😅 I have so much sewing to catch up on anyways! hope you're doing well!

This was so neat to watch/learn about! :D Have you used the Farthingales cap pliers for spiral or other boning? In general do you like them? I'm trying to decide between getting the osgood press for grommets, etc + the farthingale pliers for boning caps or the goldstar press that has dies for both. The goldtsar product video didn't look too promising but I hadn't seen anyone using the farthingale pliers until you mentioned in them in your video so I'd love to know what you think! Haha compared to the rest of the costume this was pretty easy! It’s called a fasturn! I bought mine off of eBay since they don’t seem to make them anymore, they’re so much easier to use than what Joanns sells for tube turners
So, the hihgest hoop is a little above the knee? Is it easy to sit down while wearing? I'm planning to make one for theater costume and don't want the actress to hate me🤣 Also, kitty doing "ekekekek" is just👌👌👌👌
Yes I believe that’s about where it hits. I actually didn’t try sitting down in this one 😅 but I imagine with the highest hoop where it is it probably swings forward and looks pretty silly so if your actress needs to sit on stage it might be better to do them lower? I think the blog post with the instructions actually does keep them lower and less spaced apart so I think that should be fine
I wear a Spanish Farthingale for the Renaissance Festival and my top hoop is between knee & mid thigh. When sitting just shift it (as you sit) above the contract point in the back. If you lean forward a bit it can naturally do this depending upon the skirt weight & design.
