Great to see westerners appreciate Stephen Chow's movies. You guys did the best move in reacting to the original Cantonese with subs version. You should try God of Cookery or From Beijing with Love. The latter one is a parody of James Bond.
As a Chinese growing up watching Stephen Chow's comedies, here are the films Chow directed and acted that I recommand besides Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer: The God of Cookery(1996) - Classic Chow's style comedy, lower class, hilarious battle, love and Kung Fu From Beijing with Love(1994) - My personal favorite, Chow's version of James Bond King of Comedy(1999) - Kind of like an autobiography of Chow as a comedian, how he climbed from bottom to top As a one-of-a-kind comedian actor, Chow also delivered many great comedies working with other directors, and here are a few I recommand: God of Gamblers II(1990) Tricky Brains(1991) - Master of pranks Fight Back to School(1991) Sixty Million Dollar Man(1995) Some films like Royal Tramp(1992) and Flirting Scholar(1993) are rewritten from Chinese ancient stories, and also funny as hell.
I was an early 90s kid, but Kung Fu Hustle was pretty big in the US among my age group, and everyone at school new about it at the time. Shaolin Soccer was also somewhat known. Infernal Affairs was remade into The Departed, which won the Best Picture Oscars in 2006.
The two female (pretending to be male) opponents taking shots a the goaltender were guest stars, both were made famous taking on lead roles in Stephen Chow movies.

Hail the Judge(1994), Forbidden City Cop(1996) and Out of the dark(1995) are Stephen Chow's classic comedies. There are so much more and personally, I think all his films (especially his 90s films) are legendary and worth a watch lol
9:00 fart humor hits me hard too but not when it's the lone joke - for me, this moment's hilarious because that praying mantis guy is so obviously scared to fight - like he does a fighting stance and tries his best to look tough yet is simultaneously shitting himself
You should also react to the Chinese movie "House of Flying Dagger" and the HK Cantonese movie "So Close". The two are among the most epic 2000s movies.
I personally liked Shaolin Soccer better. Kungfu Hustle was a darker story. Stephen Chow excelled in screwball comedies. Many non sequiturs and Hong Kong cultural references.
There seem to be a few versions of this movie. There's obviously an English version. It's not too bad. The voices are fair. A problem with a lot of dubbed films, is a lack of attention to voices matching the characters. Sometime, dubbers like to ham up their roles, as well. However, like with Kung Fu Hustle, there are times, when the idioms change the meaning and tone of the dubbed Vs. the subbed dialog & not always for the better. There are a couple of versions - both subbed & dubbed - that use [apparently unauthorized] copyrighted music. (like for the dance scene & closing music (just try to imagine the dance scene, with the song "Celebration " or "Thriller" )) Finally settling on some generic upbeat music. Also, there were apparently some scenes cut. In one version, the goalie makes a phone call, before he makes his last stand. He tells the person "I love you". It ends up being the person's husband, and he asks the husband to tell his wife that he loves her. It apparently makes the blooper reel at the end of the film, but it's included in some versions.
Miramax did an American re-release with the English dub and weird edits, after seeing how well the movie was doing in Asia. Fortunately, they included the original version on the DVD.
I really wish you guys knew Italian, the Italian voice actors of this movie are real football players and the overall voice acting made this a fucking masterpiece in Italy with dialects and stuff.
stephen chow has the highest seriousness and demand in directing the film that they equated him as a dictator on set, it's either his way or the highway. the big brother steel head, had his head smashed with prop bottles so many times that at one point he really fainted when the prop was smashed in a wrong angle on his head. and stephen chow wanted to do a few more retakes after he regained consciousness, luckily the workers, having developed an empathy for the guy, told stephen that they ran out of prop bottles, which actually there were a few more left. the girl zhao wei, is a already a prominent actress when starring in the film, stephen had her saying the line "my name is ah mei" in so many retakes (almost 30 to 50 retakes) that it finally broke her and made her cried on the set. no to mentioned the egg scene, where the guy ate dozen of eggs for the retake till he had a phobia for egg.

Hail the Judge(1994), Forbidden City Cop(1996) and Out of the dark(1995) are Stephen Chow's classic comedies. There are so much more and personally, I think all his films (especially his 90s films) are legendary and worth a watch lol
If you remember the second scene in Kung fu Hustle, where he destroys a soccer ball, it was a callback to this movie.
More like a foreshadowing. Kung Fu Hustle is made after Shaolin Soccer XD
this movie is absolute legendary right up there with Kung Fu Hustle.
This movie blew my fucking mind back when it came out. A massive hidden gem in the film world.
笑死我了 hahahaha 👍👍👍
9:00 fart humor hits me hard too but not when it's the lone joke - for me, this moment's hilarious because that praying mantis guy is so obviously scared to fight - like he does a fighting stance and tries his best to look tough yet is simultaneously shitting himself
After shaolin soccer, kungfu hassle, after that CJ 7, he made CJ7 because his fans wanted him to make some alien movie, check it out
RIP, the best coach…
Forbidden City Cop, From Beijing With Love , Hail The Judge, A Chinese Odyssey Part 1&2
Many more actually ^^ Nice reaction btw!
6:50 is always my favorite part in this movie... Even you Jack had a go at it... it was just a natural expression of doubt but yet so bloody funny...
Omg please watch crouching tiger hidden dragon and hero also jackie chan classics the legend of drunken master, and drunken master
What if I told you that the goalkeeper was the Axe Gang's leader in Kung Fu Hustle...
They're not literally brothers, they're like a brotherhood.
brotherhood, agree. they all went to the same boarding kungfu school of Shaolin temple.
The bad guy is Patrick Tse, legend of legends, in his top days, his fees were enough to buy multiple buildings.
You need to actually understand Cantonese to realize how hilarious AND epic this move is .... Rest in peace too 達哥
not really - its funny and epic enough for all
You should also react to the Chinese movie "House of Flying Dagger" and the HK Cantonese movie "So Close". The two are among the most epic 2000s movies.
If you want to get technical it's not football or soccer. The sport is called "Tsu' Chu".
In case anyone is curious, the dance they did in front of the steamed bun store was to pay tribute to Michael Jackson’s Thriller
I personally liked Shaolin Soccer better. Kungfu Hustle was a darker story.
Stephen Chow excelled in screwball comedies. Many non sequiturs and Hong Kong cultural references.
From Beijing with Love and Love on Delivery must be watch
Yellow shirt guy looks much like Steven from daily dropout ngl
Why does that fucking last save always bring tears to my eyes!?
It's actually really good experience watching movies with strangers some how
I'm a Gunners and I'm freaking chuckle at 1:10 😂
There seem to be a few versions of this movie.
Thank you for watch both movies in original and not english dubs
You should do on god of gambler or fight back to school by stephen chow. 😁
They are Shaolin brothers, they were orphans in the same temple.
Stephen chow 《The God of Cookery》please......
incase if u do not know the 4th brother is actually the actor of the legend of bruce lee
Loved this film ! 😭 Proper sad, because one of the actors passed away late February this year. ( The coach ). He also starred in Kung Fu Hustle 😭😭😭😭 Nn Man-Tat.
Try "The Mermaid" next. Written and produced by Stephen Chow, but he didn't act in it. But you can see his trademark style throughout the whole film.
mermaid, no! not recommend. imitation of himself is never as good as the original organic him. facial expression is stiff. comedic rhythm is off. big no.
Yay! I've been waiting for you two cool people to watch this! I loved this movie when it came out, so many laughs.
May I recommened "love on delivery" from Stephen Chow as well, please?
It's so funny, you'll gonna pee in your pants. I can't be the only one. XD
Love on delivery's first half is kind of weak, but the last half of that movie is one of the funniest things I've ever watched
@@johnyarbrough2798 Yeah, true. But it's so iconic.
Spoiler:
The character reminds me of bad luck brian.
"I'm lucky for the first time of my life" - gets arrested.
Yesss finally people calling it correctly, its football not soccer, how are americans this stupid to call rugby a game that uses 99% of their hands football... makes no sense lol
but ya great reaction and awesome movie :D
a brittish guy coined the word soccer.
In the Cantonese version there are some extra scenes than the one I watched like 20 years ago.
all moives of stephan chow are brilliant
Pls react to stephen chow 007 movie
i like Stephen Chow so much. Grow up watched his film. other of his famous movie call fight back to school also so funny
I am a Chinese guy from Malaysia...
No offense, but u guys really need to know the Cantonese language to know the whole meanings talked by the movie, some of translations are really wrong...and if u know what they all meant to, the whole movie will makes more sense...
Good reaction video of the movie btw...
Unfortunately that's just how it is when trying to watch a film in a language you are completely unfamiliar with. I do remember the subs being much better back then. (even if they did cover half the screen with mandarin, malay and english subs together)
Maybe this is the localized American version?
@@kingofsapi nah...I dont know...but the movie version they used for reaction, those subtitles arent accurate much, so become so weird and it didnt link with its scene, and some jokes are gone by that way...
Anyway, it is still good that it allows non-Chinese to understand the movie
Do more reactions videos on Stephen chow movies ! XD
The guy who does Thomas flare is an actual gymnast, he does the stuns himself. Other's are done by doubles.
love your channel!!
You should react to 'Train to Busan' if you haven't already watched it.
Pretty accurate movie especially during this pandemic :)
we're 100% going to do that soon
