For one thing, the "ugly" version of her in the webtoon has way more of a difference than her make up version. It also breaks down how/why she does her make up and its actually pretty interesting. One big difference is that she has to use eye tape to make her eyes larger which the anime didnt do for some reason and honestly that makes a huge difference. She also contors the hell out of her face to the point that it does change the shape look making her much different. She went to a beautisian college and not some art school. And while I dont like the love triangle aspect of the story, the second season has some interesting plot points with starting and running a beauty UA-cam channel and managing social media as an influencer.
I found Ossan very heartwarming. As someone who's going through a similar journey, it was one punch in the feels for me. In the 30s and trying to break into a career where it's more advantageous to start young, and feeling like you don't belong and won't make it far because of that age gap. Despite investing time and being able to perform when necessary, and having a small group of family/friends who are rooting for you, feeling like an imposter because there are those who doubt you belong, including yourself. And yet when there is that intersection where past experiences help with present goals, you show your worth to everyone except for yourself. I genuinely got misty eyed every episode from the beginning, and it's shaping up to be one of my favorites for the year if just for the first few episodes.

I'm not 30 years old, but I found this show way more entertaining to watch than I parry everything. Although it doesn't really fill up the comedy tag for me tho
I Parry Everything, should have been called I Misunderstand Everything and No One Ever Clears it Up. Like the leaps in logic the MC has at times is just outstanding that it's gone from a joke to a what are you talking about? I mean did none of those schools he went to teach what monster's looked like by level? Ossan on the other hand taking strays. The Misconceptions for Ossan are just with his confidence, and how much he looks up to the Adventurers.
@@mcmordainI’ll try Ossan but I do like Parry and the jokes haven’t gone old for me personally (but that may be because misunderstanding tropes ((that aren’t for romance)) is one of my favorite tropes so uh, I may be the niche it is for haha).
The MC from I Parry Everything is physically painful to watch because of this, if they had done exactly the same thing as Ossan and have him be like "Oh you know, maybe I'm actually kind of strong" it would have been a far better show imo. As is the only good thing to come out of the show is the "I Parry Intelligence" memes
Yeah it really is does it always mean it's the answer sadly for anyone I would have to say NO since those types are really too hopeful and these times really go insane and their minds ran away from them. That's really good for you and for some of those can say I enjoyed this and well if people were known to go with good sense and not dealing in impulsivity we wouldn't have this either or wouldn't have it there.
It is my dearest wish that they animate the second half of Vampire Dormitory because it only manages to get even *more* insane and stupid. We deserve it.
That's a good recommendation and well these days are getting tough and dangerous aside from heat waves and inflation coming in and also some parts that dealt with that aren't always OK! especially in these times. Then again even my own head isn't always so good but then again good common sense these days is hard to come by and also can say I really did affairs with that too not always the best ideas to come out of heads nor is anybody's these days.
i feel like a month on, my opinions of Parry and Ossan have completely flipped, and I cannot watch Parry with how unbelievably freaking stupid Norr is and Rick just feels like a dude doin his best.
I think it's a bit different due to the hints they have been dropping that things aren't as they seem. Like growing up extremely sheltered in a cottage inside a magic barrier, there being a late legendary hero with his last name, etc. The main character also has a different mentality since he just works odd jobs like construction or drain cleaning.
Last Dungeon Boonies is doable since the kid is young and naive, besides the old hag actively working to perpetuate the misconception for her own personal benefit. The main character of I parry everything is just dumb for the sake of it.
They did True Beauty dirty in the adaptation man. The Manhwa art really sells her ability to transform herself with makeup, and is quite realistic on that part
OMG I didn’t even know I had a reservation at Chez Garbage tonight! Hold on, lemme go get my purse. The big bag so I can throw leftover sugar packets in there.
Not gonna lie, after hearing theater kids flirting through anime i immediately wanted to go watch it. I was (and still am, broadway has me in a Stockholm nelson grip) a theater kid so-
I never watch any of the anime that you put on these menus, but goddamn if it isn't a feast to hear you describe how morally and cinematically bankrupt some of these shows are. You truly are the pinnacle of anime garbage restaurants. Thank you for your service.
The natural progression of an anime fan follows what I will call the "U curve of anime taste." It starts with having "bad taste" as a kid, since you're just discovering anime. As you get older, you develop what you consider to be "good taste," favoring anime that is more conventionally seen as high-quality. But eventually, you reach a point where you watch whatever you want, including so-called "trash," because you've learned to enjoy it, especially when you just want to unwind after a long day. You can still distinguish truly good anime from the trash, but you no longer feel the need to rip on anything that doesn't meet high standards. Instead, you embrace the trash for what it is.
and then there's my generation, who grew up watching Saint Seiya (the non American censor butchered variety), then moved on to Escaflowne, then Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. We skipped the initial trash part of the curve, how blessed were we? then the inevitable spiral down the trash bottomless pit got to us, such is the way of things.
Just curious, when were you born? I was born in 1992. I don’t actually think everything I grew up on was trash, but I didn’t really have great taste either. I just watched whatever anime was on because it was captivating to me as a kid. Even though I didn’t grow up on today’s shows, if something like My Hero Academia had been around when I was a kid, I probably would have liked it. I grew up on Pokémon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Beyblade, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Gundam Seed, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha, and basically whatever was on TV.
@@myne5689 Born in 1992 is like brand new! That explains why your definition of "basically whatever was on TV" is actually "whatever was basically on cable". Because there was no anime on rabbit ears. Except Bush Baby and Astroboy I think.
“A revenge fantasy so edgy it makes Shield Hero look well-adjusted.” To be fair, Naofumi chose not to kill the people that deliberately went out of their way to destroy his life for their own selfish goals. Oh, wait, that was an utterly horrible decision which almost doomed several worlds! He SHOULD have gone further into edgy revenge fantasy territory!
to be fair...in the source material, when asked if he wanted them to be executed, naofumi said "off with their heads" before anyone had time to blink.... but the queen told him that she would prefer if he didn't cuz it would be a diplomatic nightmare for her to deal with... so he compromised and did the stupid punishment he did, which is still dumb with or without this context so it kinda makes sense that the animators decided to cut it from the adaptation
I kinda just want a harem anime that explores that. The "good" harem vs the "evil" harem and how those two sides with clash. It could be a meta commentary on the good and bad points in harem animes.
Also fun fact about Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, for the dub, Alya's VA is Sarah Natochenny, the voice actress for Ash Ketchum. She herself is fluent in Russian!
I would hope she is! Casting someone who can't speak Russian when the plot is predicated on her speaking Russian would be like casting a man who can't sing as the Phantom of the Opera.

I love Makeine so much this season, I'd didn't give any consideration to it showing up here. I'm glad you got a chance to talk about it more. Here's hoping the rest of the season plays off!
The problem with I Parry Everything is that it has one joke, and it got old by episode 4. Ossan's protagonist at least gets a clue by the end of the first arc.
Ossan is properly hilarious, the "oblivious MC" bit lasts only for like the first 3 or 4 episodes and then everything else gets to shine. Also, the animation has some actual character every now and then! I feel like it got a decent director who's super constrained by a very tight budget and is getting as much out of it as they possibly can

You should definitely make a video titled Final War Arcs: Where Battle Shounen Go to Die where you talk about final war arcs in battle shounen, the the build up to them, the impact they live and the why most of them drop the ball. There are A LOT of examples, but I think you already know, especially given MHA's devisive ending and Jujutsu Kaisen ending in 5 chapters without giving fans what they want. You could simply reuse the same thumbnail from your DisneyPlus video but with Naruto, Bleach, MHA and Jujutsu Kaisen.
To Naruto's credit, for all the many faults in its final war arc, it did at least manage to end strongly by having the final fight be Naruto vs Sasuke, which was a big part of what the story had been building up to. MHA's final war arc, by contrast, is the equivalent of if Naruto's war arc had ended on Naruto vs Madara or Kaguya.
@@matthewmuir8884 I would compare MHA's ending to if Naruto had ended with Zetsu just walking away, Naruto killing Sasuke, and then Sakura becoming hokage.
I'm so happy MHA is over and JJK is about to end, not because I read or watch either but because there's not really much as boring to take their places. what popular battle shounen are left? I mean, the anime scene will still be dominated by them and Demon Slayer for a while yet, but what are the manga yappers going to talk about now? they'll have to find more interesting things to get into. maybe the anime will drive everyone to get really into Dandadan.
I mean this with my whole heart - the cafe harem anime is genuinely a well told story about generational trauma to the point where I reclassify it as a "generational trauma" anime, told through a harem romcom. The manga is a delight yet still trashy. It's a bit of junk food, but it's got a lot more substance than you'd think. ....Anime still has no budget though.
I wouldn't say no budget, there's like 20+ anime this season that look worse and move less. they had a few yen! there's a solid amount of character animation when it really matters. the highest compliment I can give it is that it's not bad enough for me to think much of the badness.
you sir are the MVP. I put it on hold a long while back because I decided to wait until there was a bit more to read, and this is EXACTLY the sort of sign I've been waiting for to get back in. *thank you.*
While I aggree with you about the confusion of which timeline is "good" and which is "wrong/bad" in Why nobody remembers me?, I thnk the original is supposed to be "good" because it's peace, while the new "bad" one is eternal war. I'm not sure that justifies it, but that's the idea.
To be fair, in the original timeline the other races in no small terms wanted to annihilate humanity. They hated them more than they hated one another. In that case humanity didn't have much of a choice _but_ to wipe out all the other races because the other races weren't trying to come to a peaceful conclusion. So yes, humanity committed genocide but only because they didn't have much choice. The new timeline though reflects the idea that if the other races at least _attempt_ to understand humans they'll realize that there isn't much difference between the two.
I needed the dumpiest, and I think I've seen your best. *stares at eternity, saying 'This is the best anime has to offer for Isekai, it's only getting worse. Even the appear to be hand-drawn were half CGI. Accept this.' *
Yeah, they all either have a lightning pace or a really boring plot that is only getting an adaptation because "it's popular" Except "my senpai is an otokonoko" that has been pretty solid so far
Sorry to comment this on probably the wrong video, but can you talk about the new seasonal anime Egumi Legacy in the future? Most people skip over it because it's a short series and the character designs are... unique (all by voice actor Eguchi Takuya), but it's honestly a dark horse original that is completely overlooked in English discussion right now.
I recognized Failure frame's trash potential the moment I saw the first promotional image (it was just an illustration of the goddess.) So, I immediately read every available LN. It was actually good unironically (as long as you like edgy revenge stories where protag kun is in denial about being a good person, but all the "bad" things he does are actually morally correct.) I have not seen the anime on account of the reputed bad animation. Also, there are eventually actual cannibals, and some of the other terrible people are just super racist instead of racist and that other thing that sounds the same.
Smth abt a literal goddess hating a random 15yo so much she just knocks out someone saying she’s going too far circles from ”so cringe it’s funny” back to just regular cringe. That show has to be ripped from a wattpad vent fic

He parries understanding too.
This is the first time I have seen someone say that Parry is better than Ossan. The being clueless joke got really old fast.

"Perpetuating his misconceptions that that's what a regular goblin looks like, that's a cow, etc"
What, we doing Last Dungeon Boonies again?
I think it's a bit different due to the hints they have been dropping that things aren't as they seem. Like growing up extremely sheltered in a cottage inside a magic barrier, there being a late legendary hero with his last name, etc. The main character also has a different mentality since he just works odd jobs like construction or drain cleaning.
Last Dungeon Boonies is doable since the kid is young and naive, besides the old hag actively working to perpetuate the misconception for her own personal benefit. The main character of I parry everything is just dumb for the sake of it.

That just sounds like battered wife syndrome to me.
Tldr: but seems like you just reinvented the lifecycle of an anime video, that Gigguk put out years ago

The "war arcs" in the middle have a lot of the same problems, just with more story after them.
@@dvillines26 There's still Black Clover, which is in its final arc, but its final arc has been pretty good so far.

I mean this with my whole heart - the cafe harem anime is genuinely a well told story about generational trauma to the point where I reclassify it as a "generational trauma" anime, told through a harem romcom. The manga is a delight yet still trashy. It's a bit of junk food, but it's got a lot more substance than you'd think.
....Anime still has no budget though.
oh the anime knows fully well where to direct it's budget, that's all lol
Episode 6 was absolutely insane
The anime on the other hand spends an entire episode about the girls staring at protag-kuns dick.
I wouldn't say no budget, there's like 20+ anime this season that look worse and move less. they had a few yen! there's a solid amount of character animation when it really matters. the highest compliment I can give it is that it's not bad enough for me to think much of the badness.

I'm so ready for this. I just microwaved some Hot Pockets and opened a Mountain Dew to snack on while I watch!
