  • Good writing is impossible without a strong grasp of grammar and especially of syntax.
Syntax is the arrangement of words in relation to each other to form clauses and phrases, which are in turn related to one another in an order that aims to express a clearly defined message.
In this video, I recommend the following resources to help those of you who are self-studying grammar:
    Books:
English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy
    English Grammar by Betty Azar
Practical English Usage by Michael Snow
The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation by Jane Straus

Hello, mr. Adam, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for creating all this stuff! I highly appreciate your work even though my main speciality is fiction. I find that I also need to learn how to write nonfiction, as it is a valuable tool for life.
    Thank you very much!
    Best regards from Ukraine!
    Keep up the great work!

    Hi dear Adam
I've been following you for a long time. you're an an amazing teacher. Thank you for your grammar book recommendations. what do you think of 'destination books'? there're in three levels and I found them useful both in grammar and vocabulary.

Thanks Marziyesafari. To be honest, I'm not familiar with the Destination Series. I've used many books over the years, but for higher end lessons create my own curricula based on these books. That said, whatever is effective for you to understand is a good book.

Thanks to helping. Can you suggest some grammer exercise which can be used in english even for the native speakers.

I meant grammer exercise books for native speakers.

These are also good for native speakers, especially the advanced ones. Grammar is grammar. Beyond that, I'd look at college level textbooks (example: www.amazon.com/Prentice-Hall-Writing-Grammar-Communication/dp/0130374938)

I'm a bit surprised you ignored some very good, detailed and just easy to learn grammar book series: Focus on Grammar (Pearson), My Grammar Lab (Pearson), Oxford Practice Grammar, Oxford English Grammar Course, Grammar In Context (NGL), Destination (Macmillan)
