Don't mind sayin, for as much people said the first seasons were done on a low budget and without much backing...everyone, right down to the techies and production crew...nailed it.
For a rural/suburban Michigan guy that was first generation raised off a farm and lived in a world of cliques made of jocks, hicks, druggies and nerds...Letterkenny was an instant favorite. I hadn't heard of it till a friend called me and said I was like Wayne back when I was in my 20s (I was a nice guy but I used to fight at the drop of a hat until I calmed down in my 30s). One watch later I couldn't get enough. Well done, man! Many thanks to all of you that brought us so much laughter.

With Letterkenny, what kills me, is to hear my local accent on screen. It's an emphasized one, for sure, but the quirks in turns of phrase, such as erroneous plurals done by Squirrelly Dan, are real things that people do around here. Letterkenny is based off a small town about 40 mins from me called Listowel. The chirping (insults) are common, as since we don't have too much to do, we play with language as a way to pass the time... But the plurals thing, I was at a funeral for the grandmother of one of my inlaws, and her grandson was giving a really lovely eulogy, and I had to bite the inside of my cheek because all I could hear was a very heartfelt Squirrelly Dan. My favourite part of Letterkenny is the fact that I got my American pal more hooked on it than I am. lol

Letterkenny is, like so many comedies playing on exaggerated stereotypes, in this case of rural Ontario/Canada - but depending on where you go, it's not by that much - it's pretty funny how so many of these are pretty close to reality. My wife and I are Michiganders and have watched the entire series through at least 3 times now. Been to the Letterkenny Live tours three times (Chicago, Detroit, Kalamazoo) and even bought an "Alberta Beef" baseball cap. The dialogue is spectacular and the sound track is brilliant as well. Season 5 episode 6 Bock et Biche when Wayne becomes entranced by Marie Fred, Harmonium's "Un musicien parmi tant d'autres" plays in the background. This is how I've discovered a number of Canadian artists, and even dived into Quebec's rock music scene. Lady C in the Season 10 finale was just incredible as well... I could go on but just wanted to say, kudos to the crew that made this gem possible, the cast that did such a consistently fantastic job, and the writers for giving us a window into the culture of the best neighbors a country could ever had. From Sea to Sea, Ut Incepit Fidelis Sic Permanet.

Letterkenny is amazing. Even though there are 12 seasons, there are only 6-8 episodes each season, so it's easy to get through. It gets even better as they introduce new characters. It was filmed in Sudbury, Ontario & it was a weird experience for me to watch for the first time, because the bar is one that I used to drink in sometimes back in the 90s when I lived there for about 5 years.

I grew up in a small town in Sask and we were definitely saying this long before this show was created! Mind you we would say it as "that's a hard no", "that's a hard no for me", or just "hard no". We'd use "hard pass" in the same way too.
I'm sure people who aren't from rural Canadian towns started saying this from the show, but the show (Jared Keeso) absolutely got this from everyday life in rural Canadian (specifically Ontario in this case) towns lol

Especially growing up deep in hockey culture, the way they speak is super accurate. Fun fact, most of them played hockey irl, even Stewart (Tyler B Johnson)
My whole family plays hockey and this is half our family get-togethers, just chirps back and forth the whole time. First Christmas after I moved away, I walked in the door and one of my brothers immediately says “Nice f***in eyebrows, Miss” then I got “What? It's so crazy seeing this show achieve recognition outside of Canada. I'm from the same small Ontario town as Jared Keeso and can absolutely confirm the culture on the show is dead accurate to real life, at least back in the 90s - 00's when he used to live here. MoDeans and Sir Bills from the show used to be real places, and it's crazy seeing them on-screen.

There is a very old ‘tradition’ if you will, called “Cokes on you”. Whenever two people say something at the same time, the first of the pair to say the phrase is supposedly owed a Coke by the other.
This is where the reference to Cokes is from in the opening clip.

OK, so, something you need to understand about Canada: We have a lot in common with Scots, because a lot of us have Scottish heritage. 1/4 of the kids in my class had Mc and Mac last names. My own great grandmother moved to Canada from Glasgow as a teenager. I knew her, long enough that I was just tall enough to be a pallbearer. She was the kindest person I've ever met, but with a razor tongue.
Xmas dinner after 3 glasses of gin, she nearly goaded the biker gang member my aunt was married to into punching an 86 year old woman. My money was on her winning the fight.
The other Scots I've met in my travels, we get along because of this: We'd rather make you feel 10' tall with words, insulting you for fun while building you up... but, if that's not enough, or you take it the wrong way, and you want to throw hands, beware, someone will need medical attention when the dust settles.
Do Trailer Park Boys next. It's filmed in "New Scotland".
