Best ferry to ever sail cook strait, She could handle the roughest weather and would always get her passengers and freight safely across the straits, I will miss the distinctive sound of her engines on a quiet Picton night, and seeing her leaving tory channel entrance early in the morning every time I was down the sounds, R.I.P Arahura ;-)
I was on her last voyage to picton and return 😢 the strait was rough for the return to wellington a great send-off for the old work horse. Had many a great journey on her over the years in my young days shame she was sold for scrap metal. Brought tears to the eyes, seeing a video of her arriving at her final resting place
Can't remember much of the clear sky's on that night I was in the middle of the boat bit Green for got to get ginger beer. It was such amazing trip I shouted 2 sisters and my self for the trip from welly and back she was a great work horse 🐎 got off the boat quickly grabbed a cab to mu home In newlands and then let the green gills let loose wasn't going to let have the last laugh with Me lol
nah she was very much ageing and if we kept her she would have just continued to become outdated, I have a video about her history on my channel if you want to learn more!
I was on the KAITAKI. There was an announcement about arahuras last day ,and farewell horn . So few people went to the top deck, and took some pictures. Did you see the Dolphins? We saw Dolphins after arahura passed.
