Best ferry to ever sail cook strait, She could handle the roughest weather and would always get her passengers and freight safely across the straits, I will miss the distinctive sound of her engines on a quiet Picton night, and seeing her leaving tory channel entrance early in the morning every time I was down the sounds, R.I.P Arahura ;-)

I was on her last voyage to picton and return 😢 the strait was rough for the return to wellington a great send-off for the old work horse.
Had many a great journey on her over the years in my young days shame she was sold for scrap metal.
Brought tears to the eyes, seeing a video of her arriving at her final resting place

nah she was very much ageing and if we kept her she would have just continued to become outdated, I have a video about her history on my channel if you want to learn more!

Great footage. I was on Arahura but must have been in the food court during the passing, never even heard the horn. What ship were you on?

I was on the KAITAKI. There was an announcement about arahuras last day ,and farewell horn . So few people went to the top deck, and took some pictures.
Did you see the Dolphins? We saw Dolphins after arahura passed.

I wonder what that would've sounded like echoing around the Marlborough Sounds
