Thank you, Kev!!! Got it installed like this in my California T5 now. This video was a great help!!!
Glad it helped happy camping
Thanks for the tutorial. I believe there is a risk of damaging the controller if it's connected to the panel before the battery. If the panel has high output it will burn out the coils as there's nowhere for the energy to go.
Thanks for heads up. I guess I was lucky if that is the case. This is by no way a professional tutorial as you could probably see just my take on novice install. Touch wood no issues since installing 😀
Great video, Kev. Gave me the confidence to crack on and do it. I found it easier to start at the battery and work backwards. P
Nice one 👍 👌
Thank you so much for this. My panel from roger arrives today. I am using your video to help me. Jessica
Good luck and it is easier than you think. Roger has included some great step by step instructions as well as being available to answer any questions.
That’s an amazing installation video Kev! Definitely thinking of getting one for myself! does the solar panel have any influence on your batteries if you are plugged in by cable (on a camping for example) at the same time? Is there a risk of too much charge?
HI Tom, no no risk of overload, the cali system is quite clever as well as the mppt controller will reduce input based on battery voltage. I have never had an issue with the solar set up so hope that helps your decision :) you wont regret it especially when you leave it sitting for a while outside no risk of battery damage if solar is always keeping them topped up :) Happy Camping.
@@andybearyaki amazing!! Thanks so much for your reply:)
Hi Kev. Just received and installed my kit. Did you change any settings in the VictronConnect app to better match your batteries? If so, what settings do you recommend?
Best regards
Jesper
Hey great news, i followed the instuctions in terms of default settings but i have used by own settings for the output (i.e. links directly into the ecoflow from the 12v socket driven from the MTTP controller) i used a cut off if the battery gets to a certain voltage to ensure the van leisue is never run down.
User defined algorithm 1:
OFF when Vbatt < Vlow, ON when Vbatt > Vhigh. (Vbatt being your desired threshold)

I notice you seem to have an interesting set up in the wardrobe, and I wondered if you could share some insight into that please?
Hi Alan of course it was just a simple clothes organiser link here BrilliantJo Hanging Storage with... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074XX52Q5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I bought these Pack of 10 pieces, 30cm Wooden... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CE4F2NA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share to help secure it using the existing Ledge at the top.
I have had a few people now ask on this so will look to do a quick video on it to help.
@@andybearyaki Thank you. Very kind.
I awalys wonder why you want to install the solar on your roof. When you camping in summer you are looking usually for a place where there is less sun .. so it would be better to have solar that you can move to the sunny spot and the cali can stay in shade place ?
It can keep the leisure battery topped up wherever you are even cloudy is fine. But also a good point
Even in the shade ours has been perfect as a fit and forget device to keep the battery topped up enough off grid. I prefer this way to having to setup and rotate panels on site all day long.
Hi Kev, could you please explain how you managed to remove the battery from its cupboard.
Use a screwdriver or something flat. Lay a towel on the edge so when you use the screwdriver etc to use to lever it out you don't scratch the bottom edge and then just wiggle it free. It is heavy so be careful.
@@andybearyaki Thank you. Managed it!
Hi Kev, Can you post your kit / parts list love the setup.
Hi Michael - i bought the kit from solar camp solutions - www.solarcampersolutions.co.uk/index.php/en/
It comes with all the fittings to fix to the roof rails - no drilling / cluing required and the cables/mppt controller. (you can pick the MPPT you want, i went with the victron bluetooth as more than enough for my needs)
Let me know if you need anything else / help but i found this an easy setup also thanks to Roger from Solar Camp Solutions responding quickly to emails.
@@andybearyaki Many Thanks!
@@andybearyakiHad mine fitted by Roger today, great bit of kit. Thanks for your video.
@@WastetoWonderWorldwide good to hear, happy camping.
Hi Kev, thanks for the video. For a long time I thought about installing solar panels on the roof or using solar bags. I decided to take the last option. I know there are also disadvantages. But I am willing to accept this. I currently own an ecoflow 160w solar bag with an ecoflow River Pro power station. the plan is to purchase an additional ecoflow 160w. switch both 160w in parallel and charge the living room batteries via a Victronic 100/30. initially my plan was to connect the battery under the seat. your setup uses the rear battery. is this really possible? are there any problems or disadvantages? is it correct not to connect the negative pole to the negative pole of the battery? is this really possible? last point, since the mppt was not installed next to the battery, wouldn't a Victron Energy Smart Battery Sense need to be installed on the battery to provide information about the battery's temperature? From what I understand, the power station can be loaded using the load connections from the mppt. does this work well? have you already had experience?
Hey Nino, glad you found a solution that works for you.
i think the benefit on the rear battery for me was it's proximity to where the cable comes down from the roof. I think you could use both if connected. I am not an expert on power so just followed the instruction but i think if you connect to the battery neg connection then the T6.1 Ocean screen will not display the power input correctly.
The connection to the MPPT directly via the 12v cig connector does work well in terms of advising power consumption as well as the power input, you can just charge directly into the van 12v cig but then it may drain your leisure (The MPPT can control the power being diverted).
I did install the Victron Energy Smart Battery Sensor and works well with the MPPT controller to monitor temp.
Overall the setup is working as expected and i average from the 200w around 80w per day but it has been cloudy nearly everyday and i park in a shaded spot so not bad.
@@andybearyaki Thank you very much for your reply. I wish you many happy times with your camper
