  • "We are no more than shadows from the past. You people living in the future, no matter the Heroic Spirit... you're all a treasure. We fought in the past for the sake of this future."
I was thinking a lot, before making this AMV - I wanted a Karna tribute, but it is so hard to find a good song for him, that fits his journey in Fate/Apocrypha, and references his journey in Mahabharat as well: which I found very important to include, as Mahabharat was one of the stories that made me absolutely love indian culture and mythology. I thought on Children of the Sun, by Two Steps from Hell, but it didn't work out... and finally I found the Toph tribute song, Move Mountains from Divide Music, and I absolutely loved it.
True - it is not really about his tale in Fate, more about his mythological... Karna is a tragic anti-hero originally. In Fate he is shown in a much more positive light, but in both versions, he is terribly understandable, a flawed good man, both victim of his circumstances, and his own mentality about them. He is the son of the Sun God, Surya, who is abandoned by his mother, Kunti, and ends up in the family of charioteer, a member of a lower caste. He is skilled, ambitious, and got a lot of blessings, but he cannot rise above his circumstances: and when finally he gets support from Duryodhana, and becomes a warrior a king, he is blindly loyal to him, ultimately falling morally and doing terrible things, and ending up on a losing side of a war. He tries to keep his integrity, and is often driven to a corner, but sadly by the end, not only his tragedy, but his own choices caught up with him as well.
Move Mountains is a song about endurance, defying destiny and even loyalty - it's about someone trying to become who they believe to be, and learn to "move mountains" despite everyone telling them that they can't. I think it fits Karna, and in Apocrypha, he meets people, he meets foes, with whom he once again can fight as a warrior, this time keeping his integrity till the end.

I've been meaning to leave a comment for some time now. This was the AMV that nudged me to finally take a look into the Fate series. Fate/Apocrypha [anime on Netflix] is my first introduction to it, and I am slowly working through my way through the rest of the series.
If Grand Order's anime series gets to the Cosmos in the Lostbelt continuation, I am going to keep an eye out for Karna.
Thank you so much for making and sharing this!

I am really happy :D I myself didn't get really deep into the Fate universe, but both Fate/Zero and Fate/Apocrypha had a strong impact on me, and I loved to create videos with them (I hope I can get back to actively creating AMVs soon). I am so happy if the video got you into the story, and you grown to love the character :)
