  • One afternoon in early June, 2020, the New York Guitar had the privilege of catching up with our friend Kaki King, on her Brooklyn stoop. She was the youngest artist - and only woman- to be featured on the Rolling Stone list of 'The New Guitar Gods' back in 2006, and in this interview she speaks from the heart about this moment in America from her perspective as a parent, a gay woman, a musician, and a human being. She also plays a few guitar pieces.
We hope you enjoy watching this video as much as we enjoyed making it. Special thanks to Howl Peak Productions.

I only just discovered Kaki's existance on this planet ( I know.. unbelievable.. ok. How is that possible.. but better late than never..I live in the Netherlands, so quite far away ..;-) )
In retrospective on your wonderfull words and notes I can only say : What a wonderfull and unique person you are Kaki . I listened to you all the way through the annoying , sabottaging commercials and I can only say your prayer is being heard.. praise love, praise life and hail to your message and music.

Kaki, I enjoyed your wonderful perfermance at Montgomery College (Takoma Park campus) on April 4, 2024. It was different from any other performance I've ever seen before, but interesting and thought provoking. Thank you and wish you more success in your life. 🌹🙏 ✌🙂👌

I heard she was good, but there are a lot of good musicians out there, and one tends to hear the same approach all the time. But whoa-this is different. This really hits home. It’s transportational (is that a word?) It transports you into a little garden refuge of sound hidden from the busy world. It’s that journey and destination that everyone is always reaching for.

Kaki not only plays at a high level with a lot of originality, like Michael Hedges, but she thinks like him as well. Kaki King: An illumined soul.

You are so right; maybe she should team up with Manring...

Most people just want to be included and respected...and it doesn't make sense to be anti-immigrant in a country that was built by immigrants.
