I am a Filipino and I love chicken curry. I've always wondered what curry powder is made of. This video is a gem! Tho I use ready-made curry powder from the market, it's a good thing to know how this beautiful spice mix is made.
Awesome...saw this just when packing for a trip for my hubby. And bang on ....packed this too to make quick curry with a can of chickpeas and this powder with rice. Quick fix for neat dinner😊
I needed a curry powder recipe and found you ladies. Thank you so much! I mixed it up and used it in a recipe tonight . wow! What a difference it made. Good stuff!

Thanks a lot for this video. I've tried garam masala and generic curry powder in my cooking, and I have to say the curry powder is still a bit more accessible to my western tastes. I will introduce new spices like cardmom, cinnamon, clove, mace, hing and the like one-by-one to try to find a "go to" blend for my Indian dishes. My favorite dishes already feature coriander, cumin, fennel and turmeric so I guess I was making curry powder without even knowing it.
i love so much indian and pakistani cuisine, but the thing is i don't see any nut in it so why am i allergic to it ? pls can someone help me i would love to know what is the ingredient that they put in those pre-made curry powder bag you buy at a store so that i can finally know why am i having allergies when i eat it...thx in advance...btw looks amazing 👍👌 keep it up
"Curry" is not a naturally occurring spice -- It's a spice blend made with other spices. The spice blend in this video is called curry powder because this is what curry is! You can make curry powder spicy or mild or taste slightly different depending on what spices you use and how much of them you put in.
@@Dxrty. I feel blessed :> Also, why did I write such a dumb comment? lol. And why did 17 people think it was good that I pointed out that technicality? wtf. I always thought that curry powder is made entirely out of curry leaves and I couldn't figure out why it's not green. How silly of me. Amazing video by the way!
Thanks for this! But can you explain what is the difference between different curry blends...? Like what is garam masala and how is it different to curry and also taste of the dish? Please that will be very helpful!
Sophie Dibou the garam masala is a mixture of Indian spices in which there are many spices like dried coriander, star anies , cummin seeds, mango powder , etc..
hi Sophie if you want to make your own masala it is so easy>> mix sweet red papper powder with red hot chilly powder in equal quantaty and but a spoon of vigtable oile i prefer olive oil in the mix and use your hand to mix it well.. if you want to add the massala to curry escape the oil step and add the dry ingrediants>> Good luck..
Very nice! I'm off to purchase a spice grinder so that I can give this recipe a try. I'm certain your version is so much more pleasant, fragrant, and flavorful than any pre-packaged curry one would find at the local grocery.
I very much enjoy your cooking channel. Thank you for your work. :0) Can you tell me how much of this curry mixture you would use to make two cups of lentils?

This shows the importance of not buying too many spices. I made the mistake of buying enough to last me over a year. It eventually began losing its flavour and so I had to either use it excessively - looking for any excuse to put it in every dish - or simply bin it. It’s tempting to purchase large packets of seeds, as the price is reduced by weight, but it is better for the average person to simply opt for the smaller packets or jars.
Thank you! I have been looking for one that did not include dried chillies as I am allergic to them. I can get away with small amounts of chilli powder if I am cautious with measurements.
Hello Ladies, Can you please reveal some more of your secrets to me about this receipe... Is there any need for some salt at the end or at the beginning? If I have the spices already in powder form what would be the quantities to make a similiar mix like you have done. Thanks Cyril
1.No u don't need to add salt to the spice mix as u will be adding the salt to curry or any dish at the time of cooking as per ur taste....so it really doesn't matter weather u add salt or not..... 2. If u have two spoons of whole spice then 2 n half spoon of grounded spice will work well

is masala and curry the same thing?, if not what are the differences between them ?I think other people would like to know that as well. Thank you in advance. Peace
Dry roasting helps in removing any moisture those seeds might have. It becomes crunchy & easier to grind. Otherwise your mixture might get spoiled after some time.
You don't have to confuse between these spice mix....curry powder is more on earthy side and garam masala is more on aromatic side and is always used at last step of cooking......many suggest it to add at early stages but it makes ur dish bitter......
Strictly speaking there isn’t such a thing as a curry powder that is a homogenised spice mixture that can be singularly used for the many kinds of Indian dishes, both North & South as each Indian dish like, for example, a curry for korma, meen curry, nanda curry, biryani masala etc. has it’s own combination of spices which gives the dish in question it’s own distinctive taste and identity! Perhaps, this is the “fast food” equivalent of a spice mixture with the blanket term of CURRY, a one-size-fits-all concoction created by the British Raj.
when she says red chili powder, this isnt the very mild american/mexican chili powder. this is indian chili powder. it is extremely potent. a little goes a long way.
Fantastic. Love to blend my own spices. This is just inspired. 😀

The store bought ones use a lot of turmeric. They do that for a couple of reasons:
1. cheaper to do that
2. you'll end up using more

Nice curry powder, just wondering do you have to roast it first, or can I just grind and use? Thanks
Grind..
Roast then grind. Roasting intensifies the spices.
You can just eat it on its own. You can also sprinkle some in your eyes

You can take fresh ginger and grate it , sun dry it till crisp and make a powder ...that is ginger powder 😁

By curry powder u mean sambhar powder or ... What can this be used in??

Garam masala has a different mix and more "potent" spices.
I have curry bush but it’s green. Why is your powder red?
how to make pani please??? :)
Can you please put the measurements for bulk?

Why is it important to dry roast the seeds before grinding? What difference would it make if that step was omitted?
Dry roasting helps in removing any moisture those seeds might have.
It becomes crunchy & easier to grind.
Otherwise your mixture might get spoiled after some time.
