Thank you for inviting us, nonwriters! When you said crochet... My wheels started turning to every WIP (work in progress) in my craft closet. And how nice it would be to set aside time every day to get them finished. As my mind was going down the list. I hit the perfect project... My teddy bear quilt! When I first made it, the layers were tied together with little knots all over. Then things started bothering me about it, so I hand quilted the border. Then I started quilting the blocks (15) and I figured out what I wanted to put in the empty blocks. So all the planning is done. Five blocks are done/ten to go. If I start on October 27th that leaves 5 weeks. That's 2 blocks per week. That seems like a pretty heavy goal. And it's difficult to figure the average time for each block as some are more detailed than others. But I think I'll still join and see how many blocks I can get done. Even if I only can get one block a week completed... By the end of November it would be 2/3 done! And if my hands can keep up, it will be finished by Christmas! Checking this quilt off the WIP list will be a great Christmas present to myself! Thank you for giving everyone a place to belong! See you in the sprints! 💕🌞🌵😷
Anyone who has been following you for a while would not think you are an opportunist. You are incredibly generous with sharing what you’ve learned about the writing craft with those of us who are trying to improve our writing. Here's a light bulb moment for me... I was listening whilst making lunch and you were going down the list of self care items. Comfy chair, support pillow, foot rest, meal plan, thermos for my water, caddy so I can move about, snacks, rewards, daily chocolates, cozy socks... After the long list, I thought: why don't we do all that for ourselves every day? Why am I sitting in that old chair that the cushion has gone flat and wheels hardly turn. Why are all the pretty pillows on the sofa, when I really need one in my desk chair! Why don't I have pretty highlighters instead of the standard yellow? Why don't we schedule more rest periods in our day and actually use them for resting? This is something I'm going to look closely at and revamp my Q4. Thanks! 💕🌞🌵😷

I'm super excited for this challenge; I also really love you added the diamond tier. My initial goal was 10,000 words / writing a short story, which I was hoping to eventually turn into a graphic novel. With the diamond tier I will probably set goals to start drafting and sketching :)

I was going to say this, too. Calling her an opportunist is the craziest thing I've ever heard! Like seriously?! She's taking time out of her crazy-busy days to make these workbooks and resources and GIVE THEM AWAY. "Opportunist" implies that she's expecting to profit from this. The only profit I see her making is maybe selling her books--but she's a SELF-PUBLISHED AUTHOR. Duh! Like what the actual...anyway, yeah, I was shocked too. And it pissed me off. Maybe they're just jealous of her success, who knows.

the sprint calculator has been the best tool for me these past few years. i used to get so upset aiming for 50,000 and didn't make it. (which I surprisingly did last year so yay!) but this way of doing things really does make you see your realistic goal. and you can plan for it, instead of like me before this of being so upset and thinking I was a failure for not making 50,000... and this community with Sarra leading the charge has made me also realize that theres nothing wrong with what you can do or can't do as well as taking pride in what you do and as long as your putting your best self forward thats what matters and what you should be proud of. And this completely changed how I see and do things in life in the best way possible :) I'm just so so grateful and inspired !!!💜🖤💜🖤
Maybe Citrine can be an acknowledgement for showing up and putting yourself out there. This is genuinely a hurdle for me. I get in my own way, mostly with self doubt, all of the time. I know it's a little "participation trophy" but I respond well to nudges.

Thank you so much for creating this! I'm more of a pants-er but I've always respected the outlining process. I thought it was a bit funny that you said you were jealous of pants-ers, but I'm jealous of outliners!! 😂I've always loved to write, and I'm determined to finish and self publish someday (hopefully sooner than later) and your Rough Draft Challenge is a great start and motivator for me to pick back up my hobby. I'm a scientist, working in a lab, who had long gotten away from my creative hobbies (I've missed them so much) so thank you for this! Especially since creating a planner like this and making it free is something that you certainly didn't have to do, but making it accessible and open for everyone to be able to participate is truly wonderful. 💜

This is such a FABULOUS improvement over Nano. I've always struggled with the 50,000 words (work 3/4 time, my average hourly word count is about 650, and Thanksgiving...) and end up beating myself up for not always making it. I love the flexibility and that you can make realistic, yet challenging progress. Thank you Sarra, for all that you do to support your community! And if this is the definition of what an opportunistic person does, I say, "yes, please, can I have more?"
This is so lovely, you made the diamond tier to be any challenge other than writing, I'm gonna do that one to organize my working space cause is a mess!

I just realized that I am more of a planner than a writer and a artist because when I plan I am more motivated to do more productive activities, I am more organized and my life is put together and I get my tasks and duties completed right away. Writing down a list or making lists is my way to plan every month of the year we are on❤😊 thank you for sharing ❤️
I'm really excited about all the new challenges out there! I'm hoping to participate in both the Rough Draft Challenge and Kate's 100k in Q4 by doing 50k in Nov for RDC and then 25k in Oct and 25k in Dec for a 100 total. Just printed some pages from the workbook and excited to start filling them in - thank you!!
Funny side element: There's a trilogy by a German author which is called Gemstone-Trilogy (in German: Edelstein-Trilogie). The English version is known as Ruby Red Trilogy. And the books are named after gemstones. The 1st Ruby Red (Rubinrot), the 2nd Sapphire Blue (Sapphirblau) and the 3rd Emerald Green (Smaragdgrün). The protagonists are paired up with a ruby and a diamond, a citrine and amythest are also featured. I love that trilogy. 🥰🤣🥰😂
I have never participated in NaNo in Nov. but wanted to this year. However, I am writing a children’s book. 50,000 words isn’t something I need, so I am thrilled to be a part of your Rough Draft Challenge. 10,000 words is PERFECT for me. I am very excited to do this with you all. I feel I can get a lot of support here being a new author. 🎉 I thought maybe after I reach my 10,000 words, I might buy myself a simple emerald ring!
My October will be kind of hectic and since I start something brandnew that will take up most of the day later this month, I can't yet know how much energy I have left for a project. My biggest goal for Q4 though is to eat healthier and do some sports. So I might do a step count or weight loss challenge instead. Thanks for all you do, Sarra. You are incredibly generous and kind. I hope that my preptober workbook will become an prepember one.
@@berneserainbow1407 , you might consider the steps & weight loss and work towards sports in Q1 2025. I've been working on a project outside that requires none stop standing. Two hours and I'm wiped out. I'm so surprised! I thought I'd be able to get it all done in a day, after all it's the same work as normal, just standing instead of sitting. Today was the 4th day in a row and I'm feeling it. Hopefully I can finish tomorrow, if not, for sure the next day. Then on to the next project. It's so nice to get out early in the cool hours of the morning after being cooped up all summer here in sunny 🌞 Arizona 🏜️. Take care of yourself and each other 😷.
@@suzisaintjames Thank you for your lovely comment. Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how much energy will be left for sport activities. Might be more of a weekend thing during Q4. I do hope though, that I can walk to (and back) where my project will take place once a week. I'm not sure how long it would actually take to get there, my guess is around 40 min. one way. I think that is a doable distance. I'm already researching recipes and working on a shopping list for eating healthier meals, so one part of my goal is already in progress. Take care. I cannot stand for a long time. My feet and back hurt when I do. It gets worse the longer I stand. I have to take breaks when doing household chores because of that. However, I can sit for hours. Sometimes weird how our body works.
This should really help me get through that final stretch in my current WIP. Let's git-r-dun! I'm going with Diamond since I am not totally sure how many words I need still, story *feels* like it'a about 2/3-ish done even following my plot plan.
I’ll be going for the diamond status! I’ll be writing, but it’s been so long since I’ve written and I’m still in the early stages of figuring out what story I’m writing so I have no idea how many words I’m aiming for, but I want to make getting back into writing a priority so I’ll be going for 2000 minutes this month (averages to a little over an hour a day, realistic/doable but still challenging). I think this’ll be great to get me back into it, so thanks for setting up this new challenge!
Thank you! This feels really uplifting! In everyday life of a working mother of 2 I find that without planning there is no chance to even get started! I am going to edit and partially rewrite a book I started last nanowrimo and I am excited to dive back in! This year I have a supercool extra-time for writing: instead of working full time, I have requested my work down to 30h/week during Rough Draft Challenge 🤩

So excited about this! Love the gemstone levels and the planner looks great. I printed it out last night and can't wait to cut it down to size. I'm trying to decide between Sapphire and Diamond because I don't know if I'll be working on my serial only or also drafting book 4 in my series. But I do know that I'll be editing book 3 that month, so I don't want to overcommit. 25k sounds doable until I remember Thanksgiving. That whole week is usually hectic, so I'm debating doing a Diamond at 15k or 20k. Thank you for taking the time to put this all together for us. And thank George, too, please. Can't wait for the website! (Also, I love the idea of doing the Rough Draft Challenge in January. 31 days and what a way to kick off a new year! Just wanted to throw it out there!)

I am sure I am in the minority but I do prefer the old font. I was having issues reading this font when I printed it out. I also use the digital and I felt it looked a bit scrambled - like my eyes would stack the words. I could be a one off but I wanted to at least mention I prefer the older font to this one. I really appreciate the time that you take in making these planners. I know they can’t be easy to make and they seem quite time-consuming, especially with the links. I appreciate everything that you do and I’m so grateful. I’m really looking forward to the rough draft challenge!!!

I was already feeling anxious about lowering the wordcount, because NaNo did teach us that 50k is the only right number. But then you said ‘If you write 10k and kept your health and your JOY!’ That is the goal isn’t it? Not to burn out on 50k, but to discover and grow your love of writing! Which was the one thing I always felt less and less of as NaNo progressed, because I just could not hit the wordcount. Thank you for this challenge!

I'm looking forward to The Disappearance of Vanessa Shaw... I wanna read the twelfth book of the demon saga too... I am so glad you started this challenge. I was never able to get anywhere with the NaNoWriMo event. The time I really tried it, I got 25k done, but I also suffered for several weeks after because my hands hurt so bad. It was excruciating and feeling like a failure because I didn't make it. I'm glad there's different levels with your challenge because it means that I can complete the challenge and have fun and not over extending myself at the same time! Anyway, thank you!
I haven’t written at all for years but I’ve been wanting to get back into it and this seems like the perfect motivation! I might do the diamond challenge and make my goal just to write *something* every day!

i normally don't do challenges. never participated in namo but i figured i have nothing to lose giving this a shot. and going for the emerald level for 25 days i'll only need to do 400 words a day which i know i can do so why not. I love this Rough draft challenge for November. I got the research kit and am ready to go. I have decided to to Ruby for one project called Project Worlds Apart or possibly Sapphire for Project My Favorite Poet. Both stories are inspired by books from Abbie Emmons (Project MFP- 100 Days of Sunlight and Best Christmas Ever & Project Worlds Apart- The Other World) I cant wait to work on either one of these stories. Yay thank you for the suggestion! It was a good one! That particular citrine is my favorite stone I have in my possession is what I meant, which I realize was not clear. It just literally has a calming and powerful feeling for me when I hold it. In general, I think Flourite is my favorite stone.
I had to check the word opportunist in an english dictionary to see if it has a slightly different meaning here. 🤔 It hasn't.. 😆 If you are a sound person and just watch whatever vid that Sarra has posted through all those years you easily see that Sarra is the perfect opposite from that ... So glad you went for level names that aren’t rising in importance. I thought some of the suggestions were clever but when you looked at the lower word count the names weren’t as interesting as the bigger counts. If I won the lottery and quit my job I still couldn’t reach 100k 😂

This is such a FABULOUS improvement over Nano. I've always struggled with the 50,000 words (work 3/4 time, my average hourly word count is about 650, and Thanksgiving...) and end up beating myself up for not always making it. I love the flexibility and that you can make realistic, yet challenging progress. Thank you Sarra, for all that you do to support your community! And if this is the definition of what an opportunistic person does, I say, "yes, please, can I have more?"

I just realized that I am more of a planner than a writer and a artist because when I plan I am more motivated to do more productive activities, I am more organized and my life is put together and I get my tasks and duties completed right away. Writing down a list or making lists is my way to plan every month of the year we are on❤😊 thank you for sharing ❤️

I'm really excited about all the new challenges out there! I'm hoping to participate in both the Rough Draft Challenge and Kate's 100k in Q4 by doing 50k in Nov for RDC and then 25k in Oct and 25k in Dec for a 100 total. Just printed some pages from the workbook and excited to start filling them in - thank you!!

Funny side element: There's a trilogy by a German author which is called Gemstone-Trilogy (in German: Edelstein-Trilogie). The English version is known as Ruby Red Trilogy. And the books are named after gemstones. The 1st Ruby Red (Rubinrot), the 2nd Sapphire Blue (Sapphirblau) and the 3rd Emerald Green (Smaragdgrün). The protagonists are paired up with a ruby and a diamond, a citrine and amythest are also featured. I love that trilogy. 🥰🤣🥰😂

I have never participated in NaNo in Nov. but wanted to this year. However, I am writing a children’s book. 50,000 words isn’t something I need, so I am thrilled to be a part of your Rough Draft Challenge. 10,000 words is PERFECT for me. I am very excited to do this with you all. I feel I can get a lot of support here being a new author. 🎉 I thought maybe after I reach my 10,000 words, I might buy myself a simple emerald ring!
My October will be kind of hectic and since I start something brandnew that will take up most of the day later this month, I can't yet know how much energy I have left for a project. My biggest goal for Q4 though is to eat healthier and do some sports. So I might do a step count or weight loss challenge instead.
Thanks for all you do, Sarra. You are incredibly generous and kind. I hope that my preptober workbook will become an prepember one.
@@berneserainbow1407 , you might consider the steps & weight loss and work towards sports in Q1 2025. I've been working on a project outside that requires none stop standing. Two hours and I'm wiped out. I'm so surprised! I thought I'd be able to get it all done in a day, after all it's the same work as normal, just standing instead of sitting. Today was the 4th day in a row and I'm feeling it. Hopefully I can finish tomorrow, if not, for sure the next day. Then on to the next project. It's so nice to get out early in the cool hours of the morning after being cooped up all summer here in sunny 🌞 Arizona 🏜️. Take care of yourself and each other 😷.
@@suzisaintjames Thank you for your lovely comment. Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how much energy will be left for sport activities. Might be more of a weekend thing during Q4. I do hope though, that I can walk to (and back) where my project will take place once a week. I'm not sure how long it would actually take to get there, my guess is around 40 min. one way. I think that is a doable distance.
I'm already researching recipes and working on a shopping list for eating healthier meals, so one part of my goal is already in progress.

Shifting your position can have a bigger impact than we think. I cannot stand for a long time. My feet and back hurt when I do. It gets worse the longer I stand. I have to take breaks when doing household chores because of that. However, I can sit for hours. Sometimes weird how our body works.
This should really help me get through that final stretch in my current WIP. Let's git-r-dun! I'm going with Diamond since I am not totally sure how many words I need still, story *feels* like it'a about 2/3-ish done even following my plot plan.
I’ll be going for the diamond status! I’ll be writing, but it’s been so long since I’ve written and I’m still in the early stages of figuring out what story I’m writing so I have no idea how many words I’m aiming for, but I want to make getting back into writing a priority so I’ll be going for 2000 minutes this month (averages to a little over an hour a day, realistic/doable but still challenging). I think this’ll be great to get me back into it, so thanks for setting up this new challenge!

So excited about this! Love the gemstone levels and the planner looks great. I printed it out last night and can't wait to cut it down to size. I'm trying to decide between Sapphire and Diamond because I don't know if I'll be working on my serial only or also drafting book 4 in my series. But I do know that I'll be editing book 3 that month, so I don't want to overcommit. 25k sounds doable until I remember Thanksgiving. That whole week is usually hectic, so I'm debating doing a Diamond at 15k or 20k. Thank you for taking the time to put this all together for us. And thank George, too, please. Can't wait for the website! (Also, I love the idea of doing the Rough Draft Challenge in January. 31 days and what a way to kick off a new year! Just wanted to throw it out there!)

I am sure I am in the minority but I do prefer the old font. I was having issues reading this font when I printed it out. I also use the digital and I felt it looked a bit scrambled - like my eyes would stack the words. I could be a one off but I wanted to at least mention I prefer the older font to this one.
I really appreciate the time that you take in making these planners. I know they can’t be easy to make and they seem quite time-consuming, especially with the links. I appreciate everything that you do and I’m so grateful. I’m really looking forward to the rough draft challenge!!!

I was already feeling anxious about lowering the wordcount, because NaNo did teach us that 50k is the only right number. But then you said ‘If you write 10k and kept your health and your JOY!’ That is the goal isn’t it? Not to burn out on 50k, but to discover and grow your love of writing! Which was the one thing I always felt less and less of as NaNo progressed, because I just could not hit the wordcount. Thank you for this challenge!

I'm looking forward to The Disappearance of Vanessa Shaw... I wanna read the twelfth book of the demon saga too... I am so glad you started this challenge. I was never able to get anywhere with the NaNoWriMo event. The time I really tried it, I got 25k done, but I also suffered for several weeks after because my hands hurt so bad. It was excruciating and feeling like a failure because I didn't make it. I'm glad there's different levels with your challenge because it means that I can complete the challenge and have fun and not over extending myself at the same time! Anyway, thank you!

i normally don't do challenges. never participated in namo but i figured i have nothing to lose giving this a shot. and going for the emerald level for 25 days i'll only need to do 400 words a day which i know i can do so why not. I have decided to to Ruby for one project called Project Worlds Apart or possibly Sapphire for Project My Favorite Poet.
Both stories are inspired by books from Abbie Emmons (Project MFP- 100 Days of Sunlight and Best Christmas Ever & Project Worlds Apart- The Other World)
I cant wait to work on either one of these stories.

Yay thank you for the suggestion! It was a good one! That particular citrine is my favorite stone I have in my possession is what I meant, which I realize was not clear. It just literally has a calming and powerful feeling for me when I hold it. In general, I think Flourite is my favorite stone.

So glad you went for level names that aren’t rising in importance. I thought some of the suggestions were clever but when you looked at the lower word count the names weren’t as interesting as the bigger counts. If I won the lottery and quit my job I still couldn’t reach 100k 😂
