David Waters and Will Miles discuss the college football previews placing Florida head coach Billy Napier on a "scorching" hot seat for the 2024 season.
😡 Just what we needed, another ‘Billy’s on the hot seat’ podcast. As if we don’t have enough of them out there already running off recruits! I hope all the pundits are willing to share the blame for lackluster recruiting and the resulting difficulty of rebuilding. These recruits see this crap!
@@daves.682 I think the record has more effect than this. I cover what preseason mags say EVERY YEAR. I can’t help the news isn’t good this year, but I’m not going to dig my head in the sand.
@@daves.682 you think the recruits are stupid? Billy can't coach and they know it.
Yeah Dave is the reason for the recruits not coming…it couldn’t be the 11-14 record and boring offense that has these recruits hesitant to commit🥴🥴🥴
@@Chad13 Well Chad, I believe that both the record and the negative rumor mill are both part of the recruiting problem. While we’re on it, I like Dave’s show don’t blame him any more than any of the other pundits. Napier came in to a roster and culture that needed rebuilding. The culture is worlds better and if the roster can follow suit I have little doubt the record will take care of itself. None of us can affect the record, but constantly talking about the coach (and staff) being on the chopping block DOES affect recruiting. Several top recruits have said as much themselves. Players often commit to a coach, head coach or position coach. Just look at the decommissioning with Alabama when Saban retired. Opposing coaches must love recruiting against UF with our fickle fan base doing their dirty work.
@@daves.682 it’s not a rumor mill when it’s fact. Napier, as he should be, is on the hot seat because he has an unacceptable record of 11-14 with embarrassing losses at Vandy and at home to Arkansas. He’s averaged a despicable 15 ppg against Kentucky and has a 1-7 record against our rivals. The negativity is brought on by nobody other than Napier himself and if he wants it to go away then he needs to win some damn games.
Our past bad hires have definitely gone on to succeed in top tier schools, right? Recruiting top tier coaches is as important as players.
It's beat Miami or bust for Billy. Not sure he can keep it together if we don't win that game. Let's go Gators, beat Miami, let's shock the naysayers!! Go Gators 🐊🐊
I agree. He is getting out recruited by Mario right now. You lose to them game 1 there is no chance of salvaging the season. Fire Billy and Stricklin
@@davidschlarp1606What was Stricklin thinking in hiring Bill Napier in the first place?
@@knightoffaith4737 hiring is ok, but not telling Billy he had to immediately win or else is unacceptable. Billy didn't even try.
Love to see the different Gator podcast channels connecting and working together!!
UF was a mess when he got there. What other established power 5 coach is going to walk into that job? Plus the UF schedule is ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL
This season basically comes down to wins. If Florida goes 6-6 or worse Billy and possibly Stricklin will be fired. Only thing concerning me right now is recruiting for this and next season. It’s pretty obvious right now a lot of recruits are hesitant and waiting to see how Florida will do this year before making their decisions. As for next years recruiting if Florida struggles and goes 7-5 or 6-6 and Stricklin decides to keep Napier around. Then the same thing that’s going on right now will happen next year plus it’ll be worse. All our rivals are using negative recruiting against Napier and it’s working so far. But if Florida starts off hot and can manage a 8-4 or better record. Recruits will definitely be impressed and start coming.
💯👏🏿 muddy
@@muddywaters2818 I think wins will definitely help this class, but I don’t think it saves the class. I don’t think that many players will flip. Probably looking at a top 15 class at best
@@GatorsBreakdown yea I’m thinking the same. I think this class will be similar like the last one but if Napier can have a good year with this schedule then he should definitely kill it with the portal top recruits and get a great start to next years class.
At 11-14 and going into year 3, of course he will be on these lists. Agree with Dave, unless a complete melt down he will come back in 2025. If he is fired then DJ Lagway will transfer and we are back to ground zero. And who would we bring in? This is a long process after what he took over from DM. A 7-5 season and bowl game with this schedule would be a big step. Next year 2025 would have to be better.
Is it 8/31 yet?
If he survives after this year the excuse next year will be Lagway is a first year starter. Now you going until year 4 and 5 with a losing record. Unacceptable
@@davidschlarp1606 not from me
Might as well keep him. We’ll just replace him with some other coach that we’ve never heard of, with probably worse results.
We have no clue if Lagaway is the greatest ever. I would not sacrifice the program to keep Lagawy
For me id like to see at least 7-5 minimum. That includes last season of Mullen era, which yes it not Napier issue, has been no better than 6 wins. 2 of the seasons have ended in bowl losses. One made no bowl. Id like to think a 7-5 with this incredible difficult schedule and a decent bowl game shows progress and future progress hopeful in your mind.
@@halhenderson9020 7 at minimum but I’d still have a ton of questions at 7.
Napier lost to Vandy in yr 1 with a top 5 pick at QB. Didn't even dominate Vandy this past yr. Lost to one the worst Arkansas teams in the history of the SEC. Napier barely beat Charlotte in the Swamp. Was a 4th down lucky conversion by Boardingham from being 4 - 8 at South Carolina. Napier is a good guy you root for. But his on field product is absolutely mid at best and its way to much talent in the state to not win at least 8 games a yr. His laid back slow calm approach is more fit for the Big Ten, not the SEC. He doesn't have that mentality like Kirby that says i want to dominate you and crush you. He wants to shake hands and be friends. At Florida, everyone hates the Gators and brings their A game when they play Florida so Florida needs a coach with some true fire in his belly and Napier doesn't bring that and now recruits are even taking notice thats why no one is committing here folks. We've been saying it since yr one, but fans called people bad fans for stating the facts. Now its here.....
💯

Facts
Florida Gators Go 0-for-3 on Monday Commitment Announcements. Thanks.
All those saying his seat is hot do not know the situation. Napier’s buyout AFTER the 2025 season will drop to $22 million, more than anyone not named Jimbo Fisher. That’s after year 4, which is how long those who will be responsible for the buyout gave him to turn it around. Napier still has the full support of the AD and the Bull Gators, whose opinions are far more important in the grand scheme of things than the pundits, the fans, opponents, etc., etc….
@@Chasing72 I do believe all those things you say are true, but also easier to say you’ll wait or accept this or that until it actually happens. I do think he can be fired before if it looks terrible. I don’t think it gets “terrible” in decision maker’s minds unless it’s worse than what I think it will be.
@@GatorsBreakdown Understood, but since the AD and Bull Gators (as well as the university president) haven’t expressed displeasure and the fact they gave him four years to turn it around. Like it or not, we’re stuck with him until after ‘25 (again, assuming the season doesn’t totally tank to 3-9 or Napier gets convicted of a morals charge or something…)
The fan base treats Napier like the awkward, uncoordinated kid on a little league sports team that always finds ways to lose the game for everybody else. He’ll never win anything, and the fan base is all too complacent with getting a participation trophy instead of any meaningful accolades. Napier needs to show significant progress in year 3.
Why do we even pretend Florida is an elite program? Let's see, we hire a coach, he wins six regular season games, then he wins five regular season games, and you think if he wins six regular season games he'll stay there. Just stop calling Florida a good program. Kentucky wouldn't put up with this. Florida is just a sorry program who thinks it's okay to not be able to have a winning season and keep a coach. This will be 3 years in a row that he's had a sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry ass result, and we think we might keep him. This is Florida? It's not like we don't have the talent. The truth is we don't have a coach. This is sickening. I'm ashamed to be associated with Florida fans that are okay with losing every single year.
Florida is an elite program who unfortunately has a moron named Scott Stricklin calling the shots
Do you think that episodes like this helps UF land recruits who have parents and the players themselves watching your podcast?
@@rickdaruler6368 I’ve never shied away from the controversial topics. Never have, never will. It’s not my job to win, recruit, etc. I’m not going to dig my head in the sand because the news may not be good. I have respect in the building, from the staff… where it counts for doing my way, the right way.
You think recruits parents will determine their liking of a school for this video? Lol we’re in the reality of having 3 straight losing seasons. Of course theirs going to be negativity or tough subjects to talk about.
They already know
Yes, but every site starts panicking after every lose it puts some people into a frenzy. This wasn't a 2 to 3 year build. We can't keep hiring new coaches every few years. The fans need to get their heads out of the clouds and realize where this program and brand really is. Before you know it, it will be 20 yrs since last natty. I think the complaining last year also help with the some of the recruits bailing.
@@GatorsBreakdownexactly David you tell ‘em you got/earned my respect when you asked dan mullen that question
Who else is bringing it up? It looks and sounds like you to me. 🤔
@@rickdaruler6368 The magazines are. Not that hard to figure out and we’ll discuss. I didn’t start the hot seat talk
I agree. Dave, the magazines are but you are continuing to report and speak about it. Yes, reporting on it is needing but continuing to cover is just exhausting and is not a good look. It seems like the only thing this channel talks about is about the poor record and hot seat talk. We all know he needs to win. The talk about hot seat, tough schedules l, etc is all I hear from this channel. There are better topics to talk about than our bad record, Nape’s future and tough schedule.
@@Gatortrackstar Well you definitely haven’t been keeping up. Covered spring practice without any of that talk. Recruiting has been pretty much the topic discussed since then. Have had a couple of guests on to prop up UF a bit. You’re just seeing what you want to see if it’s not sunshine pumping. I’m not going to stretch the truth just to make people feel good. There are other channels for that. I don’t care if it costs me listens or views, I’m going to call it like I see it like I always have. This program has had three losing seasons in a row, I’m sorry the good news is few and far between. The staff doesn’t mind how I cover the team, so I’ll keep doing what I’ve done.
@@Gatortrackstar and the season is coming up. It’ll be time to turn the page to more personnel and season talk.
@@Gatortrackstar and one more thing…. I have covered these preseason every single year I’ve had this podcast so I’m supposed to ignore the topics in them this year because it’s not good? Nothing has changed the way I react to those except the look from them isn’t as good. No one had an issue with what they say when it’s a good look. Alright, I’m done 😂
Stop with the loser mentality! There is no reason to accept being seb .500 2 years in a row! Absolutely no excuse. According to 247 he inherited a top 15 roster including a top 5 QB. Quit with the excuses. Most of his loses fall directly in his lap. He inherited a better roster than Mullen did and look what he did his first 2 years

Billy is fine after this year no matter what. Billy gets fired Lagway is transferring not staying.
@@Peter0531 then let's fire Billy now. What makes you think Billy could win if he had the number one pick in the NFL?
@@notusedexer bro talking about 2 years ago. Team is wayyyyy better now do you watch the team?
@@Peter0531 I just heard him say that if Billy only wins 6 games this season that there was no way Billy would be fired. I really don't care how good the team is. This is Florida. 6 games, then 5 games, then 6 games, and keep the coach? We are the sorriest program in the SEC. What other teams would keep a coach like that? We are Florida. Or are we Vandy, let's keep the coach if he wins nine games every four years then three years to rebuild? This is sickening.
@@notusedexerScott Stricklin has hypnotized these people into thinking we should have the expectations of his previous job at Mississippi state. For whatever reason these people are content with a potential 3 year record of 17-20. I don’t care how hard the schedule is, it’s just another excuse. Time to win some damn games. Enough of the excuses for Napier
@@notusedexer a lot of teams got worse while Florida improved. sorriest is crazy lmao. Tennessee, A&M, Miss state, Kentucky, lsu, ole miss are not better than florida. Texas and Georgia are legit like expected
