I think that Chesterton's private opinions are unfortunate. However, have no bearing on his apologetics for truth of Catholism. A little known fact is that Karl Marx hated religious Jews.

G.K. Chesterton wasn't an apologist for "generic christianity", but Orthodox Catholism.
