"Assault style firearms" is all i have to hear from someone to know they have no idea wtf they are talking about.
If I was to sell chicken style pasta or beef style burgers I doubt anyone would actually be expecting to get chicken or beef in them. By calling them assault style it's clearly indicating they are NOT actually designed for assault, but instead just look similar.

In the US, the two most important reasons for gun ownership are self-defense and as an insurance policy to guard against tyranny.
No, it's pride of ownership and as the equivalent or a blanky that makes a baby feel safe or an emotional support weapon.
Self-defence and protection from tyranny are excuses and rationalization
I don't own any guns, but disagree strongly with the bans. Thanks for giving us more information
Same. I hope pollievre reverses the entire prohibition and even legalizes currently prohibited firearms.
This sets an extremely dangerous precedent for all Canadians. If the Government can arbitrarily award itself the right to seize legally-owned property whenever it wishes, without Parliamentary consent, then who is safe? Whose home, farm, bank account, cannot be seized for any reason at all?
This might be Canada but it could easily be the U.S. Many people don't realize the liberals attempts to restrict "certain" firearms leads to this. Wake up America!!

This isn't communist at all. It's democratic. Often we have Conservative Canadians thinking they're the majority, when in fact they're only polling currently at 43%. Now will that give them a majority government? Most likely yes. But 57% of the country opposes them. Now often what happens in the U.S., reflects what happens in Canada. And what we've seen is hatred, bigotry, etc., absolutely won and is allowed to impose it's will on others. So the ideal of the Left talking to the other side, coming up with compromises everyone can live with, love, compassion, etc... it's absolutely gone. The Left might not fly flags from their over-compensating 4x4's, but they're going into full blown F*** Poilievre-mode here in Canada. So now what we have is a growing sentiment that people on the Right are to be completely disregarded, anything they care about is to be ignored and canceled. If right-wing gun owners are upset, there's now nobody on the Left who cares and if they have the numbers, they're going to fully impose their will. BTW, my dad was a trapper, I've always had guns in the house, and never have and never will vote for Trudeau. But politicians start playing divide politics, this is the end result. Hopefully one day people will learn that we all have a common enemy, the rich. We have billionaires that donate to Liberals AND Conservatives, donate to Republicans AND Democrats. They use these stupid marionette politicians and their media empires so we fight over stupid issues like guns and Trans-people so we blame each other for everything wrong with society when the reason we can't afford groceries, start a family, own a home, etc... is the rich are taking the wealth and escaping scrutiny unscathed.

In South Australia, they've just come up with a new DRIVERS LICENCE class. For "high performance vehicles". The excuse is some kid in a lamborghini causing a fatal crash. What it means is basically everyone with a V8 suddenly doesn't have a licence to drive it. (Don't panic though, it doesn't mean you'll lose your car - you just have to "BUY" the new licence class by logging on to a government website with your digital ID and paying the new licence class FEE. I'm sure the roads will be SO MUCH SAFER as a result of this new FEE).
@@OhSoddit I'll bet the new KIA EV6 GT is just fine though, despite having 585hp, or dad's Tesla Plaid, with 1100 hp.
I used to wonder about this though - back when i got my license + motorcycle license in 1986-87, Suzuki made the GSX-R, which was the first time I ever saw a bike registered for 340km/h. Rich kids would get their parents to buy them for them, of course, providing much needed donor organs for like a decade.
I just got my PAL for non-restricted firearms this year. My friend is a range officer & his dad's a gunsmith, I have 2 good friends who are cops, so I have shot pretty well every rifle, semi-auto, even full auto, silenced, you name it. With a range officer present, you'd be surprised what guns actually make it to the range. I fell in love with suppressors, but since they're still illegal for some dumb reason, I can't use one. I'll follow the rules of course, but I don't like the patronizing way responsible owners are treated.
But when I got my PAL I realized that without ever firing an actual gun through the whole process, not even a bb gun, I can walk into my local gun store here in Nova Scotia & buy a 338 Lapua and/or a 450 Nitro Express & ammo for same, and have them back to my apartment within the hour. Since we have a federal database, there's no waiting period. So basically without ever firing a shot, I could have a rifle with a 2km effective range that can pierce military armor up to 1km, without even proving I can properly store it. Plus, without probable cause, police aren't allowed to check whether I can store them properly or not.
I think the expense of having a graduated licensing program is likely why we don't have one. I can't say whether regulation is the answer, I saw the industry & legal owners are doing a great job with policing it them-/our-selves. But just like there's a difference between a teenager with a Toyota Tercel & one with a Tesla Plaid, there's a difference between someone who's never shot a gun having a 22LR and a 300 WinMag.
My meandering point is, I see "why" when it comes to some regulation, but we all know regulation is just another way to impress or protect insurance companies & gov't liability.
@@OhGawdHesGotAGun I actually like having a well structured system like we have in Australia, it means if I keep my guns locked up properly when I'm not using them, and carry them safely when traveling, I'm pretty much able to buy anything I like (within the legal categories). Now Western Australia has just arbitrarily banned all 'high powered' (whatever that means), centrefire calibers. I guess the rest of the states will lose theirs too in due course. Mean while we currently have a state where some of the largest cities and town in that state are effectively under curfew because every night there are gangs of hundreds of youths wandering around with machetes, swords, axes and bats, who are attacking and beating anyone on the street. If you're white you daren't show your face after dark. This problem isn't being dealt with because the gangs are all Aboriginal people. There was an attempt a while ago to declare martial law and use the army to restore order, but the outcry from the city based bleeding hearts in coastal areas was so loud about unfair demonization of indigenous youths, that the army was withdrawn. None of these bleeding hearts are bleating about the general population who can't venture outside at night in their own town, or city, and the politicians have thrown it in the too hard basket and are ignoring it. Mind you, those politicians are all too happy to go after the guns of law abiding citizens, probably because they know they won't get killed doing so, or even be slightly harmed. These mobs don't seem to need guns, and they don't comply with any laws, and they're holding towns and cities to ransom every night, but no one has the 'stones' to do anything about it, because it's a 'cultural' issue. So if I say I'm aboriginal will I be able to wander round Melbourne every night assaulting anyone I find, without anything being done about it. I really doubt it, and there's 'equality' in Australia in a nutshell.

This is a detailed draft for the "Ultimate Canadian Gun Laws"; balancing public safety, responsible firearm use, and practicality for professional and personal applications.
---
Canadian Firearms and Weaponry Regulation Act (CFWRA)
Core Principles
1. Safety First: Prioritize public safety while respecting responsible ownership.
2. Transparency: Ensure all firearms are visibly distinguishable for ease of identification.
3. Education: Introduce mandatory firearm safety education nationwide to cultivate a culture of responsibility.
4. Professional Exceptions: Recognize the needs of specific professions (e.g., law enforcement, security, and intelligence) for tailored exemptions.
---
General Regulations
1. Magazine Capacity:
Maximum capacity: 10 rounds for all firearm types, excluding exemptions for professionals.
Magazines must be permanently modified to comply.
2. Firearm Action:
No burst or fully automatic firearms for civilians.
Only semi-automatic, pump, lever, or bolt-action firearms are permitted.
3. Single-stack magazines only, for added safety and reduced concealability.
4. Handgun Restrictions:
Minimum barrel length: 4.5 inches.
5. Short-Barreled Rifles (SBRs):
Minimum barrel length: 16 inches.
Stock cannot be collapsible below the 16" threshold.
6. Weapon Coloring:
Bright Pink: All firearms, crossbows, and high-powered slingshots capable of lethal force (over 7 joules) must be painted bright pink for immediate identification.
Bright Yellow: Non-lethal weapons and devices (over 7 joules) to be painted yellow.
7. Safety Education:
Grade 7 Firearm Safety Curriculum:
Mandatory safe handling, storage, and responsible ownership training in all Canadian schools.
Practical demonstrations using non-functional replicas.
---
Licensing and Ownership
1. Ownership Requirements:
Minimum age: 18 years for ownership, 16 years for supervised use.
Mandatory completion of:
Firearm Safety Course.
Practical and written assessments.
Background checks with periodic renewal every 5 years.
Renewals require evidence of compliance with storage and usage laws.
2. Storage Regulations:
All firearms must be stored in secure, tamper-proof safes or cases.
Ammunition to be stored separately in locked containers.
Random inspections for license renewal.
3. Professional Exemptions:
RCMP, CSIS, CBSA, military personnel, and certain private security roles can apply for exemptions for:
Burst/full-auto functionality.
Non-single stack magazine capacities over 10 rounds.
Concealed carry or shorter barrel lengths.
Exemptions tied to active duty and must be relinquished upon leaving service.
---
Hunting and Sporting Use
1. Hunting Licenses:
Hunters may only use firearms within regulated specifications.
Strictly enforced hunting seasons and conservation practices.
2. Sporting and Competition Use:
Competitive shooters may apply for temporary exemptions under strict oversight (e.g., for barrel length or magazine capacity).
Firearms used in competitions must remain in licensed storage facilities when not in use.
---
Offenses and Penalties
1. Unauthorized Modifications:
Possession of altered firearms (e.g., converted to full-auto, unregulated barrel lengths) leads to severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment.
2. Illegal Ownership:
Severe fines, immediate confiscation, and a lifelong ban on firearm ownership for unlicensed possession.
3. Improper Storage:
Fines and license suspensions for failure to secure firearms.
4. Brand Non-Compliance:
Failure to comply with the bright pink/yellow coloring mandates results in confiscation and fines.
---
National Oversight
1. Firearm Ownership Registry:
All firearms must be registered in a secure national database, accessible by law enforcement for investigative purposes.
2. Periodic Audits:
Routine checks of compliance with firearm storage and licensing requirements.
3. Government Buyback Programs:
Incentives for surrendering firearms that do not meet the specifications outlined above.
---
Goals and Benefits
Public Safety: High visibility of firearms ensures law enforcement and the public can quickly identify potential threats.
Cultural Shift: Early education instills a deep respect for firearms, reducing accidents and misuse.
Controlled Ownership: Strict regulations maintain access for legitimate use while minimizing risks.
Professional Readiness: Tailored exemptions ensure security and defense professionals have the tools needed without unnecessary proliferation.
Implementation Plan
Phase 1: Education rollout and infrastructure investment (2 years).
Phase 2: Transition period for compliance with coloring and storage laws (3 years).
Phase 3: Full enforcement and auditing (5 years).
---
This framework makes Canada a beacon of safe and responsible firearm ownership, ensuring a balance between rights and responsibilities for the public good.

Japan after WWII. It's literally become the most peaceful society on Earth. China is also enjoying extremely low violent crime rates. Australia's ban wasn't complete but they also enjoyed a major drop in violent crime. It's a highly effective and successful plan.
@@abebuckingham8198Australia had a declining violence rate for many years prior to the gun ban.

China has a heavy crime rate, knives, cars, explosives are used, not to mention all the millions that have died from Democide.

@@abebuckingham8198 its birthrate is also in steep decline, they crushed their spirit just like yours is.
@abebuckingham8198 Meanwhile, everyone in China is ruled over with an iron fist with no rights. And Australia's crime went up, sorry. They skew the numbers by picking very specific terms " voilent crime due to firearms" rather than "voilent crimes per capita". Criminals will just choose a different method or get it illegally. The only one that suffers are the law abiding citizens. This was proven in Brazil when they briefly had a government that gave back gun rights to it's citizens. Reported crime and disparity dropped to record lows not seen in 40 years. Nice try, though.
When you can’t disarm the law abiding citizens, change the laws to make them all criminals. Best of luck from the great, permitless carry state of Indiana.

If the stores are not bankrupt yet who will buy those stores?
Not sure what you mean. They will just go broke and close the doors. Knowone will buy them.
They owe every owner & every dealer MSRP + taxes paid, as well as any gear that was purchased to fit the guns. Or they could build more prisons so we have somewhere to put the recidivists. We pay for every bullet a recidivist uses. Our locked, unloaded firearms are apparently inspiring people to make a day trip to Buffalo or Albany for a handful of Glocks & maybe a Costco run. I had no idea we were the cause, lol. Why do they insist on bullying the ones (the ONLY ones, apparently) who exemplify responsible ownership? How can average Canadians fall for this nonsense under the guise of "progressive policy"? Politics, likely, and nothing says "job creation" like "new federal regulations".

Your answer to the first question why are they doing this ? Because your citizens are weak and allowing it.
We can't let authority continue to reinforce perceptions to keep us in a state of shame and submission.
The next government needs to repeal these orders in council, and they need to amend the law to remove this 'order in council' provision that lets the PMO do what it wants without accountability in the future.
They have to go further: Ukraine must give us back all their guns. And money.
exactly bring it back to how it was before the Liberals got into power
The ONLY reason I think PP will reverse it is because probably like 60% of his cabinet members PROBABLY own some of these “now prohibited” items

Piss everyone off, then motion to take their guns. Imagine my shock.
A healthy government is one that fears the people, not the other way around.
Attacking trans-people, attacking gun-owners, etc. This isn't anything that helps anyone. It's designed to get us fighting each other so we don't place blame on those who own these politicians, which is the rich.
The lieberal claim that 22LR firearms on this prohibited list is only suitable for the battlefield and that they plan to confiscate them and give them to Ukraine is the ultimate in asinine and ignorant statements.
