Awesome stuff man! I would really like to know what brushes you're using with a fine point like that. I have gone through 4 Winsor and Newton 7s in a matter of 2 months. It seems like they have a serious quality control issue since my previous ones lasted years before they got wrecked in my move. I can't seem to find a brush that will actually work despite my rigorous maintenance.
If you'll recall about 7 or 8 years ago, there was a brief shortage of Kolinsky sable hairs which led to a reduction in the number of brushes for about a half year to a year, and in that time I found exactly what you're seeing, the W&N 7's had seriously dropped in quality control afterwards. It was almost 50/50 you'd either get a decent brush or a complete dud. I use Raphael 8404's (size 1 and 2 for most of my work, sometimes 000 for fine detail work). That said, my style of painting, with how rough I am especially sketching, and how frequently I paint, means no matter how much maintenance I put into them (and believe me, I've tried), they also never last more than 1-2 months. It's honestly best to think of them like paints; you will wear through them and have to replace them. I recommend JacksonArts, which is the online store where I get my brushes, Wholesale prices so they're cheaper, and they offer free shipping on brushes (at least in North America), so at least they're not breaking the bank when you replace them.
@@JohnathanHo thanks man. Yeah, I don't do nearly the amoubt of beat 'em up you do with that sketching and cross-hatching lol but yeah the ban hurt. The ones I bought just before that ban lasted me many years. I was looking at 8404s so I'll hit that store up. I appreciate it!
How important is using the same colors? I only have citadel paints. If I found a conversion chart and used the closest equivalent, would that turn out good? Or should I invest in the same paints?
Not very, although you will find differences in saturation and finish between different colors and paint ranges. Play around and see what works for you! I think Citadel has a lot of wonderful colors. I just hate their paint pot design
as cool as always
Great tutorial!!! You have an amazing technique.
You're very welcome!
Que gran tutorial muchas gracias
Oh, look! How to paint a The Worthy winning entry!
Yea, hindsight!! :D
