Got so immersed in this video that I forgot it was about the philosophy of Siege til you circled back to it in Part 3. This serves as not only a good Rainbow Six video, but as a really good history video in general. @greed5891 The whole point was the parallels between real warfare and siege and how the philosophy of siege may seem 1 dimensional or superficial but is actually rooted deeply in history and the foundations of our modern society. The video never said it was about lore. Did you pay attention to the video at all? 😂😂😂

As someone who got into this game because of the cool characters with unique backgrounds, stories, and cultures, I think people so often forget what this game is about through all the Nerf-Fatigue and the balance changes nobody asked for and the new maps, guns, or reticles. People forget that this was built up from a book by Tom Clancy about the vision of a world where NATO countries, unaffiliated countries, and even middle eastern countries like Russia and China could come together to fight against a global terrorist threat. These characters aren’t made to be yelled at about their design, balancing, or whether or not they are pandering to marketing demands (cough cough Overwatch 2). This game is about global inclusivity and the vision of countries setting aside whatever gripes they have about each other to work together and combat a threat that affects all of them. Glad Ubisoft are going back to the game’s roots as a tacti-cool SWAT simulator.

@@RJ_200 The Siege Community rn: “I don’t like non realistic character with future gadget. You don’t like futuristic character, that means you tactical nerd! I don’t like you!”
The base line is that they’re going back to their roots with what they have. It doesn’t matter that the gadgets are futuristic and the designs aren’t the most realistic. The gadgets are cool and creative (think Iana and Solis) and it’s less about the character’s outfits, rather the characters themselves and their place in the story of Siege. As Harry said: “It’s their unit now”. It’s in the hands of the characters that have been introduced to this special unit to now fight a big threat to their organization.

For not doing a video like this often (or even at all as far as I can remember) you really knocked it out of the park with this one Gregor because there's just, so much here. I can't even muster the words to appreciate everything, so I'll appreciate one thing.
The ending with the images of greek gods in between the operator videos...Then eventually the gods stopped appearing. As if to imply where once the organization Rainbow Six were merely analogous to gods, they have become our gods. Or more accurately they have taken over the role that gods once occupied in our minds: something bigger than ourselves to believe in.

When I first started playing siege, I thought the lore was really cool. The concept of a team who were the best of the best, the top tier operators, whose mission was to protect people was really engaging. Rainbow was a shield against terror, it gave a voice to victims of these fictional attacks, and it was a threat (kinda like how the bat symbol serves as a threat to criminals). But what I think was the coolest thing was the reason Rainbow was assembled. It was the secret weapon against a “threat” (I don’t think the threat was ever specified in the early game). It transcended nations and borders. It was the line in the sand. To be honest I’m not the biggest fan of the new theme but I don’t hate it. They changed it from a team that would respond to any threat, to a team that inspired hope throughout the world.

This is a great video and I appreciate you went beyond your standard material and comfort zone.
Too often UA-camrs are afraid to delve into other interests in the fear that they might receive backlash from their community.
This was a fantastic dive into not only what Siege is but what humanity is and where we have failed in our treatment of ourselves as a species.
As much as I would like to think we can rise above our own primal nature, I know we will be gone long before we give ourselves a chance.
We’re too selfish to see ourselves succeed as a species.

First, this is a great video and summary of Rainbow Six's - and Tom Clancy's - perspective on things. I think even he'd be proud to have someone truly know what he intended in his writings.
Second, while I do like Deimos and his motivation the clear flaw in Harry's approach was allowing mercenaries to begin recruiting Rainbow's members. I really do hope Ubisoft can remedy this flaw in his narrative in some way. A counter to my own point would be that Harry may have intended to see who would stay or go given an opportunity, but it was still an international security risk to do so.
Third, I really do hope Ubisoft adds on or makes an actual campaign around the series, especially if they can tie it in to other game and Clancy-based properties, like Jack Ryan, because at-current there seems to be three consecutive and competing canons, which would be 1) Siege (Sam Fisher, Siege, Wildlands), 2) Division (Division 1, Division 2, & upcoming Heartland), and 3) Jack Ryan (with it now concluded on Prime).

There is a bit of conginitive dissonance this setting and overall vibe inflicts on me.
Yes, "we the good guys standing against objective evil together" is undoubtably the best way to approach issues, and I am a complete NATO stan myself. That said, the game's universe completely fails to address when one of the good guys does something horrid. I do wonder what kind of looks Tachanka is getting in team Rainbow since 2022 - I wonder that as a Ukrainian and assume people from the Middle East could pose the same question about Blackbeard; russia just being the one that happened to get vilified by the entire planet (rightfully so). And Siege fails to acknowledge that in any way at all.
Not the first time this kind of dissonance happened to me in R6 either - Grim Sky, Clash's op bio was a bit of snap back to reality that all these people are cops. They enforce the rule of their govts without serious regard for it's morality. I doubt the protesters Clash suppressed were protesting or rioting just for the kicks of it or because they wanted to be big bad terrorists. And they did make some handwavy bs about her gadget being specifically a more humane way of dealing with that issue and the reason why she exactly is the one to get into Rainbow but the problem still stands.

So ,as a Greek , and a communist , I need to talk about some stuff on the greek civil war.
First of all , there were no "Communist armies" in Greece , they were literally the people , of every village that was half burned by the Nazis , almost every old woman and young child fighting with weapons (or by providing supplies such as food) , the greek civil war was not "backed" by the ussr , cause clearly they were in no position to match in strength with the US's nuclear weapons yet as was shown by the destruction of hiroshima and nagasaki . The US and UK provided weapons and basically fought for what you call "the greek government" and by the way , the Greek civil war , was were the first Napalms were used .
Secondly , the communists were not "trying to overthrow" the government.
The greek government in the middle of the german invasion fled to Cairo leaving the country in chaos and saving their asses , so the communists (The Greek Communist Party) created "The Mountain Government" which was briefly recognised by the Americans and English that came to Greece after the fall of the Third Reich. After the fall , a new greek government was formed including member of the communist left and a treaty was signed that gave the rule of every army the greeks had to the British General Ronald Scobie.
After that Scobie did nothing while "neo"-nazi groups roamed greece and specifically athens, killing communists.
After a lot of discussions Churchill persuaded the Greek PM to disband every military organization that existed in Greece during the war (mainly the communist ones) and create a new one , the communist protested and the british army with the right-wing governmental army opened fire and killed many civilians starting the civil war.

Gregor, thank you very much for explicitly stating the part about the Greek civil war and NATO members' ultimate mission: preservation of democracy.
I come from a country torn across generations by imperialist powers, currently at a crossroads with no clear path towards objective prosperity in sight, and yet I know many of my fellow compatriots who would be willing to fight for democratic ideals, simply because it is the right thing to do.
I understand that political content in this day and age is difficult to create, and I applaud you for your courage and passion in making this. And to the rest of the world, I implore you to think and consider what you believe in, whether it is something that was instilled into you at a young age, or something that was explained to you into your fifties, and if those are beliefs that you are proud of, and willing to share with your close-knit circle.

Something that’s not often commented about is the role faith had in the Vietnam War. Aside from Ho Chi Minh just being a plainly better leader than most, a big factor was how Ngo Diem had begun to pervert Catholic ideals.
Perhaps if they had framed it more about their love of the faith than the fear of Communists who, that far from Moscow were trying to preserve Buddhism and Folk Traditions, things would of turned out differently in my homeland.
Anyway, I deeply appreciate this video.

I rarely comment on videos, but this video is unique and deserves the praise. In a world where everything seems like it’s trying to tear us apart and divide us, where it seems the reasonable people are outnumbered by the unreasonable: it is always heartwarming and great to see a video like this.
One that can calmly and rationally discuss and explain a point of view, while at the same time inspire others! Bravo, I say! Not only do you create good content, you bring people together. And THAT is something entirely too rare these days.
Truly inspiring Mr. Gregor, bravo indeed.
