Not sure if you are aware: be careful when you are attaching an intended to flow away economy leg to Cathay Pacific upper class flights to save on miles: they don’t allow you to take out your checked luggage at HKG. We bought a cash ticket earlier this year which involved a 23 hr layover in HK intended for my uncle to get good rest at his apartment in Hong Kong and drop off his big bags before heading to Malaysia for a 2 day business trip: that “no take out” rule was not mentioned during booking, during online checked in and NO exceptions could be made despite we have begged the JFK counter agent, the U.S./hong Kong/mainland china Cathay Pacific agents and even filed a complaint
Does BA still charge 12.5k miles for west coast- Hawaii flights? In case of changes, I much prefer BA cust. service to FinnAir, with whom I have no experience.
No. Qatar offers a better deal from the west coast, that's why we talked about Qatar. More details in this post: frequentmiler.com/best-ways-to-fly-to-hawaii-from-the-us-mainland/ In terms of customer service, I wouldn't expect Finnair or Qatar to offer wildly worse service than BA. Obviously YMMV, but neither has a reputation for bad service. -Nick
What is "mattress running the numbers"? Am I hearing that correctly? Have been listening for a while and enjoy your content but can't figure out what you are saying. Chris
I fly from PDX to BOS every year to visit family. I was thinking maybe I can do a Hawaii-PDX-BOS BOS-SAN-PDX companion pass... 🤔 buy a one way to Hawaii and have a long stop-over in PDX? Its definitely going to take some creativity. 😅😅
The best part of waking up is frequent miler in your cup. Love my Saturday mornings.

You are hearing correctly. It’s a malaphor of mattress running (staying at a hotel mostly to earn points/free nights/status) & running the numbers.
