About Canada. It existed prior to the making of the federation in 1867. From 1534 to 1763, Canada was the name of a region of New-France, consisting of the Saint-Lawrence and Great Lakes Valley (parts of modern day Québec and Ontario). After the British conquest and the treaty of Paris in 1763, Canada was known under the name of Province of Quebec until 1791, then divided in two parts: Upper Canada (south of modern day Ontario) and Lower Canada (Saint-Lawrence valley). Then in 1840, the two regions got united again under the name of Province of Canada until 1867. You also forgot that Newfoundland joined the federation in 1949 and used to be a former British dominion as well.
13:48 - Regarding Canadian expansion, there is no mention in this video of Newfoundland & Labrador becoming the tenth Canadian province on 31 March 1949 after existing as a dominion of Great Britain up until that time.

For Canada, you did leave out the acquisition of Newfoundland and Labrador from the British in 1949, thus joining the Confederation that same year. Apart from that, the most recent change was the creation of the territory of Nunavut, having been split off from the Northwest Territories in 1999. In recent years, there had been talks between the Canadian government and the Turks and Caicos islands in the Caribbean. They've twice stated their desire to become a part of Canada, but nothing's been done about it, due to the logistical and constitutional issues such an inclusion would bring. Mainly the issue of a vastly different economic structure, as well as whether or not it would be a new province, or merged into an existing one, like Nova Scotia.
Yup, Vermont didn't join the Union right away. They joined in 1791 after a deal was made with NY that Vermont would pay thirty thousand dollars to be distributed to every New Yorker that claimed land in Vermont under NY land patents. And that both states agreed on the boundary between them.

"Let's start with the one on the thumbnail"
YESS WE STAN YOU
Yup, Vermont didn't join the Union right away. They joined in 1791 after a deal was made with NY that Vermont would pay thirty thousand dollars to be distributed to every New Yorker that claimed land in Vermont under NY land patents. And that both states agreed on the boundary between them.
Your videos are wonderful
Hey man just letting you know you made a small error in the Canada piece. You forgot to mention the later addition of Newfoundland to Canada
I found this in my recommended and now I am a fan
because I am Dutch I wondered how many of you see the colonial empire that the Netherlands had as an empire because there are some differences of opinion about that
You stole most of it from the Portuguese.
I'd say it was a trading empire like the portugese one
IT BIG
The Dutch are underrated. Their empire stretched overtime from from the coast of Africa, coast of South America coast of North America, islands in the Caribbean and mostly ALL OF INDONESIA. The Dutch are cool in my book.
@@chip1646 That's because it WAS the Portuguese Empire.
Wow the productions are so good. This needs more views

Excellent video! A true history lesson!
Canada also picked up Newfoundland in the mid 20th century. You missed that. Newfoundland used to be independent.
Such high quality vids, absolutely amazing!!!
8:13 Anyone notice the Grand “Ducky” of Moscow? I laughed so hard when I saw that. 😂😂😂
Edit: I was looking though the comments and someone else said it before me.
Yup! I was gonna comment that too 🦆😂
quac,quac,quac.
LOL I didn't notice that, sorry!
General Knowledge I like ducky lol
Perhaps the guy from Pretty In Pink was a modern relative. ;)

Acre "que novamente não existe", as a Brazilian, i rly appreciate the joke but this is supposed to be a secret! Great video! Keep it up!
Hello from Russia!
I would be happy to see your video about evolution of Russian territories. I think this will be interesting for many people.
Awesome video. Would've loved to see Australia and South Africa too.
Can you make Video's if countrys united together
Can you do if the turkic states united

like what if slav countrie unite
@@Frankenbutt99 maybe he is from azerbaijan?or Uzbekistan? Or Tatarstan? Turkish means turks from Turkey
Which states are Turkic?
In Argentina something similar happens, we started with a bit of the north and we were smaller than Paraguay and then we ended up being 7th in the world
Your videos have been great. This one, however, has something that bothered me. Around the 6 to 9 minute time period, maps are shown without any ocean borders and it is difficult to get the context from a green or a red "blob" which is supposed to show something. Please continue your good work, and pay attention to the invisible outlines of coastlines. Having coastlines gives context.
Seemed to enjoy? Your videos are always on point. You deserve 10x the subscribers.
I've been falling into the trap, of watching more and more rubbish on UA-cam... Especially since being at home due to the lockdown imposed on us, as a result of Covid 19... I AM SO HAPPY to have found your channel and am loving your content. I feel that my brain is slowly re-engaging, lol, out of that numbness of the trash I was watching. Thank you for the enlightening, interesting and very educational content. Subbed and looking forward to your future content. #Awesome 👌😎
“Que novamente nao existe” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 - you should make a video how Brazil acquired Acre in exchange of a horse 🐎🐎
8:03 There should be "Grand DUCHY of Moscow"
raidman14 I still kinda like ducky lol
Yeah
I imagine an slav duck with an crown in it head

Can you please do a video on countries that used to have a coastline but not anymore?
yes, please cover the eastward expansion of Russia - I believe they made it as far as California
Great video, two little things: you forgot to mention that the province of Newfoundland and Labrador joined Canada in 1949, and that there were 4 original provinces of the Dominion of Canada, not three, Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
He said all 4 original provinces
He said Canada was created from three British provinces. Which it was.
New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the Province of Canada (which was Quebec and Ontario at the time). These three British colonies became the 4 original Canadian provinces.
@@zedxyle woah my bad ur right about that part
I’d like to see the Russian expansion vid
Extremely excellent video specially canada its avery new information.I wasnt aware of the fact the BRitish colombia joined later into canada anyways supremely awesome but i think u forgot to mention french presences which couldve been an additional information for viewers

HAHAHHAHAHA Good joke, I'm brazillian and here in Brazil we have like a famous meme that says that Acre state/ province, doesn't exist, and this frase: "que, novamente, não existe" talks about Acre and means that it doesn't exist.
Loved this joke hahah

What is strange with Germany is that it's not one nation, it's a group of independent nations ruled by prussians. I think that after the Second World War we should have given back their sovereignty to these nations (like Bavaria, Württemberg, Baden, ect)
Countries much bigger than Germany: Are we a joke to you?
I love your videos it makes me get a big brain
12:45 😂😂😂
A part 2 of this would be fantastic, as would a part 2 of the large to small video.
All of your suggestions, such as the USA video, the Russia video and the Spanish/Portuguese video would also be great - shouldn't be too much work.....sorry.
Chile was a small country, after the pacific war became a really long country
thx and congrats for the "acre dont exists" joke, it made my day. (I'm brazilian).
I would love to see a video on the history of Russian expansion
great video! but i think you should've added poland and some other countries after ww1
Join his discord and suggest this there for part 2 link in the description
You know that Poland currently is 3 times smaller than at our biggest time and 60000 km² (if I remember correctly) smaller than after WWI?
So does this mean that Russia’s name translated literally into English is “Land of the Men Who Row?”
One of the opinions. Scients have many opinions about history of Russia.
@@OK-vz8vj but none of them are true🤣
"About 115m, still pretty cheap"
You forget Algeria 😂
8:21 That is a map of Moscow and the surrounding regions, showing when each part was conquered (the numbers in red are years) MOCKBA is Moscow, and BO(upside down squarish weird U)O(upside down L)(a square on top of two curved lines)a is Vologda. If you want, I can translate the whole thing, but it might be too late for that.
The US was just a strip of land on the East coast, then it expanded west.
And even in the beginning it was large, bigger than most European countries now
Quite the same beginning of brasil, if you compare.
Nice editing
