  • Catching kicks in Muay Thai has its risks. If you don’t counter effectively then it is likely that your opponent will still score for the strike in the judges eyes. Having some effective sweeps in the bag when you have the leg will allow you to continuously dominate this particular dynamic whilst sparring or fighting.

I'm not sure hooking the leg is allowed in Muay Thai rule set...
Otherwise great! Always a pleasure to watch Skarbowski

I'm reading so much bullshit comments, JC is showing how to close distance when catching a kick from a far distance, using a very traditional Muay Thai technique, by causing pain and disconfort. This is not Dutch Kick Boxing or MMA pirate style striking, so please be respectful and open minded the man knows what is doing.

Nope! Why are you teaching the students to take a full power round kick to the ribs before catching the leg? You can either cross-block and take some of the impact away from the rib or go away from the kick in trap which is called a soft block. Also why are you not punching your opponent in the face and then going for the sweep. If you just do a trip you do no damage. One punch step out and One Sweep and that sweep is also a damaged strike because you're stepping out and throwing a full-on power leg kick.

He is teaching how to sweep, not to block body kicks, or to punch when the leg is caught. He is showing a technique not the whole of muay thai 🤣, I love it when a regular dude🤡🤡 tries to critique a world champion muay thai master.

Bro just look up Jean's highlights and then please don't come back and delete your comment, it's hilarious. Also catching like this is perfectly fine if you step to the inside and there are tons of different ways to catch a kick as well as tons of different options to choose from after that.

@@justinsmitley7619 I respect that you are a fighter, but the point still stands he was only teaching a sweep.
