She had always been told she did not have the looks for television, but she tried anyways, and was shooting the first Glee scene by August 2008. Her easy solution would have been to just wait out and get a new leading broadway role, but she took the hard way to expand her abilities, and it worked. Hope that made sense lol

She told him something he didn't want to hear in this scene, he accepted it and offered to help her anyway, he always put her first even when they weren't together! Like talking to Carmen, just cause he cared about her, not that he was looking for some reward from her.

I think you’re being a bit unfair. First of all, they were teenagers when the show first began. Finn was in his first relationship ever and Rachel had never even had a friend before. It’s understandable that their attempts at a relationship would struggle under those circumstances. But let’s not forget even at their lowest points, Finn always believed in Rachel and supported her dream. He also did a lot of growing up in season 4. He was finding his own worth, his own place in the world, and he was a major player in every big thing that happened to Rachel that year. He let her go because he didn’t want to hold her back. He remembered about her competition and answered even when he thought she was butt dialing him and didn’t want to talk. He was the one who helped her find her audition song and he would have been there cheering her on opening night had he not passed away. It’s evident from the writing that Finn was going to be a permanent fixture in her life always holding her with an open hand until she came home to him. Just like he was always the one backing her in McKinley, whether they were together or not. As for Jesse, first, he’s played by Jon Groff which means *everyone* loves him. Two, he and Lea had already worked together and been best friends for years at that point so their chemistry was already developed. Third, it’s easy to seem like the “better” option when you only show up a few scenes every other season. Season 1 Jesse completely used and betrayed Rachel. Season two Jesse was still a jerk. And a loser to boot. He’d gotten his first taste of failure and run right back to what was safe and familiar. Rachel was clearly part of that. Season three, was mixed. He was kind of a jerk to Rachel, telling her she might as well give it up cause there was no way Carmen was coming. But then when she did show up he put Rachel above himself and that was nice to see. However from his scenes with Kurt, Mercedes and Unique we know he still wasn’t that great of a guy. We don’t see him again til the tail end of season six at which point he is magically, successful, mature, selfless, and perfect in every way. Not to mention the whole club somehow just accepts him, despite there being no development there at all. And finally, there is the trickle down effect. Fans of Jesse/St Berry love to argue that because they are basically male and female versions of one another that they are the ideal couple. However, Finn inspired Rachel and helped her connect on a human level. That changed who Rachel was from the pilot episode to the day she met Jesse in that music store. And then meeting *that* version of Rachel inspired him. Had season one episode one Rachel met Season one Jesse St. James they would have both been so cutthroat and focused on their dreams/careers and so competitive with one another that they never would have connected at all. Heck, they may not have met at all, given that Finn was only in Glee because Mr. Shue blackmailed him to keep Rachel from quitting for lack of a “proper male lead.”

i just always felt like jesse was on the same wavelength as rachel. he's as dramatic and driven as her. They just complement each other better. I think the realistic route would've been - she gets turned down by NYADA 'cause Maddam T is just to sick of her shit and has run out of fucks to give, then she gets an offer to be an understudy for someone else, because Broadway executives aren't willing to take any bigger chance on her after the fiasco that happened last time, and even though she's good, she has to work on and prove her work ethic. Now, she has to swallow her pride and take it, and after years of rehabilitating her reputation, she finally gets bet on again
