- Check out a video demo of the Mesa Boogie Express Plus 5:25. It can be run at 5, 15, or 25 watts to give you great flexibility when recording or performing. This is the head version but it also comes in a combo.
Audio captured with an Audix i5 through a Universal Audio 610.
I just got a combo yesterday, because some guy put it up for $500 bucks, just trying to make space. Super versatile, like you said. I have messing around with it for a long time. I know they’re known for their high gain, but I’ve been doing a lot of low gain and clean stuff, and it’s great for that too.
can you get good death metal tones from that amp? I'm still deciding between this or the JVM 50 combo. thanks.
For sure! Maybe not as much as a rectifier, but the burn channel gain I think sounds great for that.
Get the Rectoverb, youll get that metal tone and same reverb clean above. Only thing missing would be the EQ option.
Hey man, thanks for the video - what cabinet are you running with it? a Mesa 2x12???
Yup! Mesa 2x12 ftw.
The overdriven sounds are muddy and fizzy in this demo. Is that really how it sounds?
Yup, a lot of players would prefer to scoop the mids more drastically, but that's just how I play it. Thanks for watching!
Yeh I own it it's crunch sounds are where it excels and a really clean clean very dynamic first channel distortion isn't for me the burn channel does like foo fighters tone tho if that's your thing but crunch Thin Lizzy T Rex status quo it is unbelievable at
sorenahm - I agree but this is supposed to be “John Petrucci” styled - super tight, modern metal isn’t it? I’d check other reviews to see if the tone is the same. I don’t like it either but all I’ve heard about these is their “the last amp you’ll ever buy”... year right \m/
@@oldguyjammin9732 The is the Express 5 25, it has nothing to do with Petrucci. Maybe you're thinking of the Mark Five: 25.
Some fantastic sounds you're getting there Sean .... just goes to show that our great tutor can play as well as he teaches!!
Hey!! ... what happened to the right knee??
+Phil James Thanks as always for the kind words, Phil. The knee brace is just 20 years of basketball catching up on me, it'll be good in 4-6 weeks though! Hopefully.
You take care my friend!!
Clean sounds great. It has body and definition.
Love that amp.
Can anyone tell me the difference between this and the Rectoverb 25 other than the pedal and names of channels, and 5,15 or 25w modes. Does it have more gain on tap? I wanted the rectoverb but the 5w option on this has me second guessing which one
great demo...not too much talking with plenty playing...good job
+Justicexhaze Thanks so much for reaching out and saying so!
Genuine question. English is not my first language so I'm just interested. Is that thing you do, an accent? That thing where you end many words after the standard ending and add an extra sound. Like, instead of saying "knobs" you say "knobsah" or instead of "tones, you say, "toneseh" So yeah, is that the accent of a particular area? Thanks for the videos!
+palonazo Haha, definitely don't emulate that! It's not an accent I've just always done it for whatever reason. If anything I do have a bit of an American Midwestern accent (born in Chicago, high school and college in Michigan), but that's more noticed in different pronunciations. Thanks for watching!
Sean Daniel Haha, cool. Thanks for the modes videos. They're great.
Happy to help! Thank you for watching!
I always wondered if you could play electric now I no lol... great vid
Can you do flamenco style? In particular the hand movements?
+qascarface That's a great idea, but I only really know some basic flamenco stuff so I wouldn't be totally comfortable teaching it as of right now, but it's a great excuse to practice! Thanks for the suggestion.
doesnt sound that loud on this video...when i put my settings to yours on my 5:25 its loud as heck in my house!...is it louder in your room than it appears on this vid?
Yeah it is pretty loud, I've got 2 microphones on and I muted the room mic while the guitar amp mic was on and vise versa.
How giggable is this amp? Considering picking one in the near future but dunno if I should grab the 25 or the 35...
Thanks !
+GoodGuyJamie So the biggest show I've played with that amp was probably like 500 people and it was fine. Still had a lot of headroom to go. Also most places can just mic it up and crank it through the pa a little louder if the stage volume is low enough.
Nice but turn the dang reverb off its not an always on thing
What is the song that he is playing at 3:00?

@@seandaniel23 Thanks! Great riff!
This or a Yamaha thr100hd for home playing??? Quandary....
Never played the yamaha, but damn i love the Mesa.
What's the deal with the reverb swell after you finish a riff?
Good ear. So I have 2 microphones going, one on the amp and a shotgun one on me, since I had the amp turned up a little bit, I set the vocal microphone to 'duck' everytime the amp mic had a signal, so what you're hearing is the natural reverb of the room microphone coming back up in volume.
Ya that reverb (whoomph) is weird. But I've heard that on other Mesa demos. Not sure what to think of it
What happened to your knee? Can't be from tapping to the beat, can it?
+Adrian-Florin Vișan Haha, not quite. That's just 20 years of basketball catching up on me, it's all good though :)
Dude, lose the reverb. The amp sounds grungy/muddy in the overdrive select. Maybe you have a neck bridge selected on the guitar.
??
Man I have to respectfully disagree, I love drenching it in that Boogie 'verb. :)
me to when the reverb is that beautiful. it's not even muddying the tone at all . it's just making it slightly more atmospheric.
+Shayne Hurd Come on... He is showing his favorite settings... not yours
Cool amp. Did Jar Jar Binks name the company?
+Cleegan I think it was Carlos Santana that helped name it, but in a way he's kind of the Jar Jar Binks of rock.
Mee-sah boogie!
u should do a vid all about bending...
+randy mazyck For sure man, great idea. As always thanks for checking it out.
This amp does NOT sound like this. This video is awful.
Mud city bro. Should really boost the mids more
Nope. I own two. It s a Mesa EQ. The Treb, Mid an Bass should be seen and used as separate gain stages. Begin with all on 0, never at 12. And dial in gently. Try as 1 hr clockwork steps and hear the huge changes. And dare to leave it at 2, or 3 maybe.
I guess I'm first...
+Ryan Flannery Winner!
Sounds like 23 fuzz pedals are on
I'll never understand why they replaced the Dual Calibur series with this mess.
I love this amp
Sean Daniel That's the thing about Mesa/Boogie they cater to everyone. I love the old Mark series.
Way too much reverb
+Gary Williams Oh man, you can't have too much of that boogie 'verb!
+Sean Daniel
Hopefully I shall find out soon because I'm thinking of getting this amp :)
+Gary Williams Man that's exciting. I highly recommend it, you'll love it.
gtr out of tune
