🚆 4K Riding the extended line of Switzerlands tilting train (Switzerland | IC5 Rorschach - Zürich)

- Welcome aboard the newly extended InterCity 5 line! We are currently in Rorschach on the shores of beautiful Lake Constance and waiting for our turn to depart. Our route takes us onto the relatively steep route up to St. Gallen, the biggest city in northeastern Switzerland. Our trains tilting technology allows for higher speeds, it will be a quick and convenient non-stop ride to the next bigger city, Winterthur. After a short stop at Zurich Airport, we're already in the middle of Zurich! An interesting early morning ride with fast curves and beautiful views awaits you here! If you'd like to continue the ride to Biel, you may do so in Zurich.
You can clearly see the tilting motion in curves. The idea behind tilting trains is to allow for faster cornering speeds than regular trains. This reduces travel time without the need to build new high-speed lines or heavily modifying existing tracks. Just compare a regular train to a car and a tilting train to a motorbike. Cornering fast in a car is possible, but wears the tires faster, is more dangerous than ordinary driving and the lateral forces are unpleasant to the passengers. On a motorbike, it is normal to lay into curves, which results in a little bit more pressure into the direction of seating, instead of lateral forces. Sit back and enjoy the ride!

That was quite exhilarating. It must be a heady experience to be at the controls. Loved it!
Sehr interessante Strecke !
Absolutely love the Swiss rail scenery just breath taking great cab ride as well, thank you for sharing .stay safe .
Thank you for another awesome video to see. I have so much enjoyed your videos over the years. And I continue to share them on my train channel on Facebook for all to see. So glad you are well and pray all is well with you and your family. God bless and keep you always. Be safe. Safe travels ahead.
Thank you for taking us on an exciting ride that really shows the advantage of the tilting train. It's a long journey from Rorschach to Geneva Airport!
The longest journey (in terms of distance) you can make in Switzerland I, guess, without changing trains is actually the IC5 route from Rorschach to Geneva Airport. In terms of duration it’s probably the evening Regio in Grisons (RhB) from Chur to Tirano.
What a great ride, loved every tilting mile. Thanks for taking me with you.
I've travelled with you virtually so many times between Winterhalter and Zurich that I feel like a commuter.
I really like watching your videos. For me it's looking at your beautiful country. It really is so gorgeous. I work in Crewe UK. For DB Cargo.
Great video! Tilting like a aeroplane, man. Wow! I can't wait for the next curve on this track.
Welcome back and was waiting for the vlogs.
*Very Beautiful cab ride!*

Great video !!
Another great ride thankyou cheers bob.😁🤠🦘🐨🍺🚈🚆🚄
Thanks for watching? Thanks for taking us along! :)
What an incredible journey. The tilting made all the difference, and as for the acceleration in the Zurich tunnel, I almost felt it on my back! Dare I continue? perhaps after I have sampled the delights of Zurich!
That's a very nice 'view from the Office '. It seems to be quite fast, even when not curving. I would say something ij the vicinity of 140 to 160 Km/h in some places . Nice video
Thanks for the ride !! cheers.
A great cab ride I been on that train before when I was in Switzerland.
Nice video again, temporary 👍 Good to see how Rorschach "doubling" look. I am surprised this short part still single track, but....what´s a problem here? geologic, local nimby? Very interesting is real travel time between some hubs on neige zug.
Congratulations!

In the picture of the driver's desk did I see an ashtray?
Getting on for late in March and still so much snow on the ground! Was it a particularly snowy winter?
Not at all, no. But St. Gallen is a bit higher up, so naturally they get more snow.
How fast is it going?
We reached a maximum of about 140km/h
Depuis decembre 2021
Is the beeping sound at 26:36 the swiss SIFA?
Exactly
The double decker locomotive drawn intercity has a much better ride, and is motor noise free.
3 out of 7 cars of the ICN are without motors and therefore silent
@@RailwayEmotions But you agree the double deckers have a better ride? And looking at the timetable, performance is no worse. I prefer them any time.
Their performance is worse on routes with higher speeds for tilters (obviously) and the ICN are a bit better in bad weather. I agree however that the ride is a little better on the standard coaches, that is simply due to the fact that they are not motorized and have no complicated tilting mechanism. Both does add some stiffness and slight vibrations. The ICNs ride is far from bad.
@@skuula I've commuted with ICNs for almost a decade, I wouldn't say it's that much worse than the IC2000. Especially if the route has a lot of curves it is way more comfortable. And if you upgrade to first class (or go for a snack in the restaurant car) you get also less noise. The only complaint I have is the limited luggage space in ICN, I don't like going to the airport with it.
