A few corrections to the info in the video: Your stats stay with you, the only thing you lose are the stats that fall out of you when you get on a new star (but just pick them back up). A good strategy is to intentionally kill other players early in the fight so you can pick up their power and concentrate it all in a single kirby. Stay behind dedede, he won't hit behind him. Spikes are the best attack power, rapidly hitting a will do more damage. Selectively only pick up offense, defense, HP, weight and maybe a few turns for your power-ups, it makes control a lot easier. The best stars for offense are Hydra and Shadow, Dragoon is good but harder to control, warp star is also fine.
Yeah Dedede is honestly not that bad. Its just more so one of the last things to do in this game. Them doing it on as seen in the video rusty knowledge(o in case for Void not knowing the game at all) was probably the biggest flaw. Not that the video wasnt entertaining, just if they ever want to try it again. As you said with them thinking they lose their stats when switching stars and also not knowing weight is actually pretty good for combat. Still doesnt change that i always enjoy people trying Air ride. Only makes me a little bit sad, considering back in the day my olde brother exchanged both my Kirby Air ride and smash melee (which goes for crazy prices) fo anothe game at gamestop. I dont try to hold it against him since we were both young, but with both being some of my childhood favourites i cant say i ever forgot. from my memory Tornado, if it shows up, is actually the most broken ability against King Dedede, cuz it just stun-locks him forever for as long as you're able to stay behind him after hitting him once. you also never have to hold A more than once since Tornado will do everything w/o any further input aside staying behind Dedede. its also one of the faster ways of killing him depending on your offense stats I believe Swerve Star was good w/Tornado vs Dedede due to how its able to stop on a dime, so you could correct your angle better in certain cases. Spikes is more iffy cuz it doesn't last as obscenely long as Tornado can when Tornado hits, even if Spikes deff works decently, it deff has the problem of needing to press A multiple times, which could cause Dedede to eventually hit you if the angle's off. Tornado's deff one of the safest ways overall since it goes forever+stun-locks him to Death

If the minigame was Vs King Dedede it was an instant draw. (also "Next time we'll cheat and beat him" as if you weren't using a mod to make the city trial time >7min and make the All power up spawn more often lol)
You can rock the stick left and right really fast to do a spin-attack with any vehicle which should help you do damage to the 'raid boss' without needing an ability.
They aren't using a lot of things. Their tactics weren't nearly good enough for what they were trying to do. They were nowhere close to beating Dedede. He wasn't even half health when they were talking about 'messing him up'.
Ngl it’s kinda wild attempting this with basically zero game knowledge, shadow star van and hydra absolutely shred dedede the main thing you need is hp and defense so you can tank his swings, but the most simple thing I can tell y’all is to spin your joystick so you do a spin move stop just trying to slam into him that’s not how you attack in this game it does a bit of damage yes but you are meant to spin into him assuming you don’t have power ups also as others have said stats aren’t locked to your Star so PLEASE don’t stay on compact it is a death sentence no matter what stats you get lastly if you are really struggling with control just get the scooter by far the easiest control in the game and it’s decent all around for every situation
Funnily enough I’m pretty sure Dedede is way easier to beat just fighting him yourself so you don’t have to worry about other cpu/people interfering and potentially killing you or each other. A couple of comments have said it but Swerve Star with the spikes ability melts his hp just by spamming A behind him.
I'VE SPENT TOO MANY DAYS OF MY LIFE ON THIS GAME. spin for invul, break the star tower, get off your vehicle at spawn, 7 minute timer, break the star tower, use the swerve star and sit behind D3. So many things to make life easier.

Many people underestimate the Bulk Star. The Saw on the front stands for offense, the bulk is in the name and the weight is in its looks. It is a great vehicle for Dedede (or fighting in general) if you can handle it (and get enough Boost-up). Its basically Hydras little sibling. (Be careful of being stunlocked in a corner) Rex-Wheely (the biggest motorcycle) has great offense and defense, too. But Turn-up, while not nessesary, helps a lot and should be collected. Shadow Star isn´t bulky but punches hard. It´s like playing Elden Ring against the King. The toaster (icecreamtruck) has hight defense and the HP go up fast with the power ups (not great offense though). Some vehicles, like slick- and swerve- star are mid in fighting, but make up for it with their special movement. Hope to see more Air-Ride content. Very fun to watch and nostalgic.
The bulk star is a really good option for the Dedede fight. The only issue is the charge up, but if you find lots of charges, you’re golden. Like someone else mentioned, your power ups stay with you from machine to machine. Some of them may just drop when you swap, but you can pick em back up. The strat my friends & I would go with is stick with the Compact Star for most of City Trial (for easier power-up pickups) & swap to your battle machine of choice close to the end.

As a veteran Air Rider, I did struggle a bit to watch this without face-palming at times but it does seem like you guys had fun and ultimately that's all that matters.
I recently beat Dedede for the first time a couple days ago after trying for YEARS And after I learned how to beat him once, I killed him solo in under 20 seconds lmao. Sword and Spike are insanely op as long as you stay RIGHT behind him. You can combo so many different strikes to shred through the fat penguin instantly Shadow Star is my recommendation since it has decent handling and its not too fast. The more stats you get from City Trial kind of makes his fight harder since the extra speed is not helpful

It's not just about getting stats, but your vehicle has base stats as well. Stars like shadow and hydra have increased damage output, making them very good for dealing with the king, presuming you focus on health/ attack/ defense as well of course. I don't beat him very often, but I have done it. I also don't think you usually have more than 7(?) minutes to farm stats, and I usually play with all minigames random so naturally I lose more.
Something I think people dont realise is hack pack added a neutral drift button that doesnt use your main ability so you can conserve abilities like your plasma charge.
Braiden: i got some of the three best gamers, jaiden, smith, and void. Me: if you’re gonna claim to have the three best gamers on wildcard then it’s probably smith void and weegee.
If y’all hit that spin attack by quickly hitting left and right on the control stick you could definitely get some hits in on dedede while you have no power ups, he’s tough but manageable with constant stuns.
So about Dedede there's some tips to help out anyone looking to beat him which is easier on the hack pack version due to some extras not in vanilla: The brake feature with B is perfect for plasma uses since you can stop while static generating in motion without using the attack to aim and then attack with A. Never get in front of Dedede as he always hammer swings you out of doing any frontal damage, sides also have a risk factor given how he's constantly on the move so the back is the safest area of attack when up close. Extra time past 7 minutes/setting item spawn to high in debug helps with more resource gathering. The only stats that matters are HP/Offense/Defense/Weight with turn being optional depending how well you can handle movement in the arena on the given vehicle. No frail stars (with the exception of Shadow) since the initial defense/hp bar of a star can matter on if Dedede hits you which makes the compact star the worst to go against him as even when buffed the initial stats are too low to handle a fight of attrition.
How to defeat dedede in 3 easy steps: 1. Get swerve star. The one that literally stands still while charging (and the only time you can change directions.) 2. Grab some offense/defense/hp and head to dedede. 3. Find the needle ability and DESTROY YOUR A BUTTON while near dedede. Finally, enjoy him evaporating.
King Deedeedee was a pain. the best way I found to beat him was with the swerve star and the spikes. Just get the power up, park it next to him in a corner and spam attack
Use Sword, Spike AND Spark Kirby. Also bomb Kirby works too but You need to have GOOD aim. You deal with dedede in no Time. Also attack him from behind.
So heads up Weight is actually not useless High Weight not only makes you heavier and harder to knock around, but it also slightly increases your Top Speed, Offense, and Defense. But be aware it makes your acceleration a bit weaker and you spend less time in the air. Some scenarios call for high weight, others for low weight, it all depends.
iirc spinning while attacking dedede should help, I think it decreases damage you take while you can still activate most abilities on top of the spinattack
My brother and I managed to pin DDD in a corner and attacked him with the sword ability for a while. If I remember correctly, he gets stunned and cant turn when he gets hit.
What I do when I wanna beat him, easiest if in stadium so you can more easily restart, pick something that can stop easy like wheelie scooter or swerve star, start the match, and if you wanna kill him super fast, see if a spike power spawns at the start, if it doesnt, then exit and restart till it does, if you dont care about time then just continually run around picking up powers until a spike one does drop, then just get behind him, touch his butt, and spam the stop button as much as possible, it hits with each press, and ive managed to kill him in just over 30 seconds with that strat. took me over a decade since I began playing the game as a child to figure this out.
I find it funny that even with more time than you could possibly have in the Vanilla game, you still didn’t beat DeDeDe. He’s a difficult fight for sure, but it might’ve been a good idea to do maybe a tad bit of research before just jumping in here.

city trial was so inspired. It was the most fun mode of Kirbys Air Ride and the unlock system released the happy chemicals in my brain

Do they not know they can spin attack? Jaiden with the shadow star has the best offense of any star but it’s a glass cannon.

weight is speed and acceleration. it's bad if you're doing a gliding game but otherwise beating dedede is mostly a weight thing lol
I was never able to beat dedede as a kid so I'm not surprised they couldn't beat it, the controls are jank and hitting him is pretty hard
Listen, I just beat King Dedede the other day for the first time. Finally after 28 years, I can finally say I beat him.
I love how this unintentionally becomes harder solely for the decision making of players deciding to stay on Compact Star, the worst star defensively to the point of liability.

From what I understand, they are using a mod which ups the spawn rate for them. Essentially, they are cheating.
