An absolutely amazing overview on a truly underappreciated toy line. It seems almost insane to think anyone could find this cartoon offensive considering the OTT allowances given to kids today. Excellent job looking at the toy line and historical retrospect. Excellent video.
It's amazing how people say this is an under-appreciated toy line and I completely agree with them! I actually think it was one of the best toy lines of the eighties!
These take me back to Christmas of 86, I got a huge haul of these guys and vehicles, coupled with the karate kid figures and ring playset. It was a good year
Some of the best action figures of the 80s!! I remember watching the cartoon and then as fast as it came, it was gone. I still have both versions of Rambo and Colonel Trautman figures. I love them!!! They still look great even by today's standards. They were very detailed for their time.
To be fair these toys never hurt anyone by themselves. Also what was up with the U.K. in the 80's. They changed "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" to "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles". Also i had a plastic Rambo Knife toy and Bandana. I didn't lead go around killing cops or anything.
Here in Brazil it became a fever all these toys in the end of the 80's. I had both versions of Rambo, Cel. Trautman, Black Dragon, Snakebite and Sgt. Havoc. My old friends had other collection that was awesome to my childhood. Good video!
Argentine here. It's true about the popularity of later releases. They were all the rage back in 90/91. Expensive as hell too, I only managed to get one of the second production for my 10th birthday in 91, that Jackson dude, which was a couple bucks cheaper, I imagine because it wasn't as popular as the other characters perhaps? Dunno, but man how I envied my above average friend that had the plain Rambo, the commando Rambo, the Rambo with parachute (that was a real treat to use with it really working little parachute)... and more vehicles and "accessories" than I could count... Ah the memories.
Thanks for another great vintage toy review. I was a big fan of the Rambo movies and I had a lot of the figures from this line including the helicopter. They were made for older kids and not the younger ones, if they had been marketed that way they might not have been so much controversy, there was a lot of that in 1980’s Reagan America. These Rambo and the Centurions were the last figures I bought in the 80’s because I was getting older and starting high school and I was growing out of toys, I didn’t start collecting again Star Wars was re-released in the late 90’s, but I kept a lot of my figures and I still have the Rambo First Blood Pt. 2 and Trautman figures.
one of the greatest lines. you can basically tell firepower rambo and standard rambo were based on the first two movies, as was trautman. general warhawk and sgt havoc were based on the two main villains in the 2nd movie, as was the girl was loosely based on the girl from 2.
Yeah, but the charisma of the character of General Warhawk, was influenced by Adolf Hitler, who was also portrayed by Steven Berkoff in Herman Wouk's War and Remembrance Miniseries in 1988. Havoc's physique is based of Yushin from the second film, as well as their fight in the chopper.
@@usamazahid3882 was i wrote this 5 years ago? Oh anyway yeah i think i read that too. but even as a 6 year old back then, i could tell who the 2 villains were based on. all of us then-kids could lol.
Great review!! Rambo figures never get the attention that they deserve. They were well built and had a ton of play value..... especially for kids who liked to bring their toys outside.
I am really enjoying your documentaries on some great toy lines. Its bringing back some great memories of my childhood. Thank you for the great content your producing.
Very well researched. I remember this figures and i loved the vehicles. I had Rambo and the main bad guy. Had a lot of fun playing with them. Could you do a documentary on Dick Tracy? those figures are so ugly that they are great lol.
Ive still got a few of my old rambo toys, and i scored an unopened rambo figure off ebay. I think another issue that brought these down was that they were too big to play with the GI Joe line. I believe if they were the same size it would have gained lot more popularity.
These were some of the last toys I got before I became a teen. The weapons were my favorite part of these toys. The R.P.G. that actually launched. I loved that thing.
Great video. I was 10 when First Blood was released and by the the time Rambo: First Blood 2 came out, every kid in my area had a Rambo knife with the unscrew-able compass on the handle. These films also inspired us to try survival skills from Lofty Wiseman’s book, camping in the woods & having a great time.
What to do at lunch? Watch some classic Analog Toys! Perfect mood as i just finished the first 3 films, lol. I dont have much familiarity with the cartoon so this was just what I needed. Thanks for this informative video, Tony!
Excellent video! I got the Rambo action figure for x-mas back in the day (the first blood pt. 2 version); and to me, its still amazing how detailed this figure was (the accessories, the scars, the jade necklace) by 1980's standards. The playset and some of the vehicles were so wickedly cool, but unfortunately never got the chance to play with any of those. That Rambo figure was one of my fave toys back then; aside from the limited articulation on its arms, it was pretty awesome.
Great Review Tony. I still have some of my Rambo Guys. I have Col Troutman, General Warhawk, black dragon, mad dog, Nomad, TD Jackson, & Turbo. Thank you for reviewing these action figures
I got a couple of strange Rambo figures on holiday in Majorca. I can't really find anything out about them but your mention of the Argentinian company makes me wonder. One of them was Vietnam flashback moustache Rambo.
Great review!! Never had any of these, nor had any of my friends. I wish they had gone with making Rambo a Joe, I know none of this would have appeared in the GI Joe line, but all of that in this toy line would have made a great sub-team in GI Joe. And those villains would make great Dreadnoks and Cobra agents, well maybe not those last two...Doctor Hyde and Trap-jaw..errr I mean X-ray. Later!
Super cool video! I remember having the two variations of Rambo, I wanted to see each of the figures what accessories it included and a detail explanaition how to put these accessories on the figures. Thank you so much for the effort of making this video and sharing with us.
AWESOME VID!!! U REALLY BROUGHT ME BACK TO WHEN I WAS A LIL TERROR LOL. MY RAMBO TOYS WHERE ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVS!! I LOVED THE BAZOOKAS, MACHINE GUNS AND THE 6 BY 6 VEHICLE!!!
Another great review tony, the first time I was aware of this toy line was in the mid 90s at memorabilia here in the UK. it's a great and underated line.
Hard to believe Rambo became a kids cartoon Aries with its own line of action figures considering its roots of a dark story about a Vietnam veteran suffering ptsd
I really enjoyed this video.... Learned a lot about these toys I have a half a Dozen of them ... Rambo was a Great movie hero keep doing what your doing ... enjoy it! And all your A+ Reviews
This toyline was a huge success in Argentina and as you mentioned, some waves were created only for this country (I remember the last for year 92-93 if I'm not wrong). Also the first waves had some differences from the Coleco originals. Great review, geetings
Started watching Force of Freedom last week. Its a surprisingly decent show with nice animation and fun light hearted adventures like sunbow Joe or Filmation He-Man
I had the colonel troutman figure and he came with the commonly issued KBar knife that was actually very sharp. So sharp my older brother pretended to slit my throat with it and ended up giving me a nasty scratch on my forehead. Troutman had the best weapon set including an m60 with ammo belts, an M16, Colt 1911 and the Kbar. Very cool figure. Probably the best one from that line.
awesome video. I remember my buddy having the white ninja guy and Rambo himself. the shirt version. I remember getting some sorta field gun but never a rambo to go with it
I thought these guys were well tooled up until I brought a gi joe steel brigade 25th anniversary figure it came with a anti tank gun with a backpack with 4 missiles a tripod mounted light machine gun 2 assault rifles a combat knife and a pistol with a silencer attachment
I think the cartoon was banned on regular tv in the UK, but not on cable stations, because I remember seeing it on a uk cable tv kids show in the early 90s. Great video, btw.
Awsome review and information! I wish someone with your reviewing skills would review each individual figure and vehicle. Those second wave badguys looks awsome. In the cartoon there is also a badguy robot called Max in several episodes. I guess he never got a figure but he looks like something that was supposed to come out?
Great movie…….picked up this figure shirtless with a neckless for 10$ in fleamarket….1986 I believe…..hey bro love your channel …you have a great voice for narration.keep up the great work
I grew up in America in the 70's and 80's. I do not remember anyone complaining about this cartoon or toys over here. I personally believe it simply lost to Gi Joe who had a jump on rambo here. The Gi Joe toy and cartoon lines were more popular here in the US. There were more characters and better writing in Gi Joe. Not saying that the Rambo toys were bad at all,I just picked up a few carded figures. But as an American child,Gi Joe was a more fleshed out universe and more interesting to collect. Just my memories of a far better time without political correctness or as we know it as,bullying with manners.
Was the Sergeant Havoc character based off of Yushin (big russian baddie from First Blood Part 2)? They look a lot alike, are both Sergeants, and maybe cause he was such a memorable bad guy in the movie he was in. Never had him, but did have Rambo, Trautman, Mad Dog and the Savage Cycle. Also, the Firepower Rambo is wearing the necklace he took from Co Bao after she died.
I got a Rambo knife. If you are a fan of the Rambo series I highly recommend getting yourself a Rambo knife. The one I got is called Hollywood Collectibles and it is fairly affordable.
I think Rambo and other larger figures could have done well if they had a 3 3/4 line too, to interact with the Joes ARAH, AM Action Force in the UK, SW, and every other line in 3 3/4 scale. More imagination, more vehicles, playsets etc.
Good review. While I think the cartoon could be cheesy (especially with Rambo doing super human things at times, like righting cars that were flipped over), the show was good. Kids better play with Rambo figures than using smartphones.
The bigger figures were a bit pricey for us. At the same time I really don't see why this wasn't around longer.
Awesome vid 👌.

I totally had that lunchbox but I had no idea of its cultural significance. I just really loved Rambo.

Te acordás si el Ninja del Desierto era bueno o malo?
I had the SAVAGE base but it was manned by Sectaurs because I didn't have any Rambo figures. The Rambo guns fit perfectly in the Sectaurs hands.
Absolutely love the Rambo Force of Freedom toyline. I enjoy the history you provide when explaining the toyline, great video!!!

The Rambo action figures were so cool. And I love that they came with a small arsenal, so if you ever lost a weapon, you'd still have more than enough
They even sold packs of just extra weapons!!! Haha!!! They were the most violent action figures ever made.
Brings back memories. I had all the first wave figures, two from the second wave, the Jeep and play scene. All sold in tag sale, thanks mom.
Ive still got a few of my old rambo toys, and i scored an unopened rambo figure off ebay.
I think another issue that brought these down was that they were too big to play with the GI Joe line. I believe if they were the same size it would have gained lot more popularity.

They were probably knock off toys not associated with Coleco.
I rocked that metal Rambo lunchbox it was the shit I also had Rambo and had the white ninja
to think we will never see great comercials for toys like these ever again!
There wouldn't be no snowflakes today if there were more Rambo toys.

Muscle Power Rambo was also released by Jocsa in Argentina.

I think Warhawk and Miles Mayhem were long lost brothers!
Especially with the mirror shades, and uniform! :)
Imagine a rambo remake but based on the toy line characters.
I’m only now just realizing that in some of the art, Rambo is wielding a M60 machine gun with an RPG round inserted into the barrel. I reckon they didn’t have a knowledgeable artist on staff like Larry Hama.
Where can I buy this type of Rambo toys, nowadays?
ebay
@AnalogToys Brand new?
@stevencochran5301 these toys are 40 years old.
@AnalogToys I had one in elementary school. Now 49.75. No flea markets?
@@stevencochran5301 You'd have to visit the flea markets. He can't look into flea markets for you. He likely doesn't live where you live.
Rambo is a savage
I really want NECA to make a Rambo action figure from The Final Battle of Rambo Last Blood!!!!!
Savage headquarters was a remade marx toy , great memories but not strong enough for play for an 80s kid
