What The Fusion Of Business And Government Means For The World | What Are Fusion Centers?

  • In the United States after 9/11, the Department of Homeland Security established "Fusion Centers" to coordinate information between federal, state and local authorities. As time went on, the private sector was invited to participate. The resulting "private-public partnership" promised many benefits to the giant corporations that signed up -- corporate espionage protection, cyber-terrorism preparedness, and a sense of being "in the know.' In return, government agencies got access to company servers, while creating a feeling of comradeship.
The Fusion Center concept came into its own during Covid. As Ryan Cunnigham, a former corporate Fusion Center liaison, reveals in our interview, all the mitigation measures and "mandates" that migrated out to the general public were developed first in the hothouse of Fusion Centers.
Ryan's journey from enthusiastic cheerleader of private-public initiatives in emergency management, to dedicated activist and whistleblower, is a triumphant tale of tremendous courage in the face of corruption, conformity, and the "merger of state and corporate power."

Did Mr. Jones appeal his multi-billion dollar verdict or he just going to fold and pay up? The way I see his case is this: The plaintiffs claim they were defamed and slandered because Jones claimed the shootings never happened. So Jones is essentially implying these people were liars. Originally these plaintiffs were what is known as "private citizens" under the seminal Sullivan v. New York Times libel case. Under that case private citizens can protect themselves from libel and slander because they are deemed private and out of public scrutiny. However once these people went public with their grievance they become public figure which Sullivan held have essentially no protection from the allegedly slanderous/libelous opinion of others such as Mr. Jones. Jones can say whatever he wants because these people have made themselves "public figures" by capitalizing on their misfortune; going "public", telling their stories to the media, etc.
A lot of Mr. Jones' ranting and raving is clearly "over the top." This is what gets him his substantial following of often reactionary, under-informed people (sometimes myself included). Sure, one might advise him to tone down his rhetoric and diatribes, but then many of his followers would probably lose interest in his show(s).
The important point here is the people who won the multi-billion dollar lawsuit against Mr. Jones made themselves into "public figures" under Sullivan v. New York Times law and therefore Mr. Jones should be able to say whatever he wants about them under HIS First Amendment rights.
Appeal your case, Alex! Don't pay a dime before that.

Well, my employer mandated it. Refusal meant dismissal with zero support. No severance. Retirement account completely gone. If you refuse, YOU are at fault, and it's your own problem if you're nearly retirement age, and nobody cares if you've dedicated years of your life to the company.

Not so sure I like the idea (when it comes to the cybersecurity side, since that's the only thing I have any kind of experience in). I get that companies sharing vulnerabilities with authorities can help improve "national security", but if they're not disclosed publicly then everyone else is vulnerable, and, presumably, they do it because they want to use that exploit themselves. Also, if there was any place to work with companies to put a government backdoor in private software, this would be the place.
There's really no need for governments to be the organizers of this, IMO. I think private companies will facilitate communication between one another when it becomes a problem to their bottom line (either due to it actually costing them directly or because they are held criminally/civilly liable for the damage done to their customers). I know the government has a lot of their own computers, so it's important for them to stay up to date, but I don't think they need to be such tightly coupled to companies to do so.

It's too late man haha. This is so tightly woven into Federal agencies that it's a tangled mess. It's really to make something that costs tons of money, like the military, cost a little less with private contractors, they pocket the difference.
Also, civilians aren't restricted on their actions taken against civilians. And when it comes to employers, they are sucking up data on their employees all day. I've noticed cameras are going everywhere, and companies are providing free wifi to their employees. But that's a company network....Where you sign their terms of use policy and no privacy policy.
I can't think of any other reason why all of these companies would put 5 gigahertz wifi in their plants.
