Night Terror is night and day for James compared with Metropolis Pt 1! James sounded really good on Night Terror, a song crafted for his middle range. But he butchered Metropolis terribly. I am not blaming James btw! It happens with age. I just think that they should omit songs like Metropolis at his age, as it really tarnishes the show. Either way I love to see them back in action!
IMO they should just downtune those early songs to accommodate his voice. I mean, would that really be a crime? as it is James is struggling way too much
i thought the whole show would suck after hearing metropolis, but then james calibrated really quickly, he was flawless the rest of the evening, considering his age, i actually prefer him finding new melodies than downtuning the songs one or even two steps in order for him to reach the notes
@@user-zj4tt2ey9o I agree that most of the fans are there for the instrumentalists. but honestly it got to a point where LaBrie's singing have become a major distraction (to say the least). I'm not sure. then again, he can still handle some songs well enough. just most of the early stuff sounds really painful

Thank you for uploading this video. it's so awesome to see Portnoy back.
The continuum solo at the start of Octavarium never fails to amaze me
We are so fucking back
Tongue munching grandma Labrie agrees.
24:55 THEY DID THE THING 🤣
Expect a lot more “things” to happen throughout the tour. this is the true live dream theater.
Need more gimmick from them 😂
i was expecting Eat my ass and balls!! during As i Am hahaha but cant complain, great to have mike back
My brain was so happy when this happened hahaha
@@MSAyeah his little "wooh hooooo hooo hoooo!!! " In "as I am" made labrie break and start laughing while singing lol
I watched this about twenty times already and it's so funny how people start cracking up in the crowd
Waiting for MP to play The Alien! Or, PLEASE, BREAKING ALL ILLUSIONS!
MP will be doing Stripped down version of MM tracks to appease Fans the thing a lot of people don't realize MM side grooves and right side grooves have different pitches for a reason
@@timwatersondrummer Yeah, MM is technically more advanced than MP. And after the departure of MM, i just realize that he gives a super fresh influence of the drumming in DT’s music that protnoy can’t give. IMO MP drumming is sometimes too dominant while MM’s style is very “supportive”. For now let’s just wait for the new album to be released and listen to MP’s work there
@@eternalbliss3487 There's a good argument that's actually flipped around.
Petrucci Octavarium end solo melted me once more..
Myung is shining here!
Welcome back home, MIKE! Only he can play like this in this band!!
I didn’t stop crying since vacant started all the way to the end, and more when octavarium started, and just with this video,,, I’ll need a bucket when I see them in Dallas
I understand loyalty and longevity and im not blaming him , age and the food poisoning did him in. He came back to the best of his abilities. After this tour i don't know what's to be. Either replace which i dont think they'll do or just end it gracefully.
Well, in lower parts, James can sound fine. Maybe modify the melodies so that he does not need to go that high.
@@talanielhe does modify the melodies and they sound as bad or worse
It's time to send him to the farm upstate. It's downright awful.
I mean, would that really be a crime? as it is James is struggling way too much
They could have a second singer also.
i thought the whole show would suck after hearing metropolis, but then james calibrated really quickly, he was flawless the rest of the evening, considering his age, i actually prefer him finding new melodies than downtuning the songs one or even two steps in order for him to reach the notes
@@user-zj4tt2ey9o I agree that most of the fans are there for the instrumentalists. but honestly it got to a point where LaBrie's singing have become a major distraction (to say the least). I don't blame him, though, the guy is like 60. idk if autotune would work coz nowadays he has to shift the melody A LOT just to get through the lines. maybe autotune has improved to a point where the difference between the two pitches doesn't cause horrid distortions.. I'm not sure. then again, he can still handle some songs well enough. just most of the early stuff sounds really painful
Stream Of Consciousness para mim é a melhor música do DT, já faziam anos q eles não tocavam ela ao vivo. Pelo visto, voltaram com o Portnoy com força total. Clássico é clássico. Meus parabéns ao quinteto!
OH MY EFFIN GOD...octavarium... the second best DT song after a change of Seasons....
this gives me goosebumbs .. almost too much to handle....😊😊😊
De repente, estou de volta ao passado! E como é bom ter você de volta, Mike!! Ouvir essas canções com MP na bateria é como viver bons momentos no passado
Stream of consciousness made me fan and now i'm ready to see them in Milan
Octavarium - absolute masterpiece !!! We've been waiting 18 years for the full live version !
Here for the transition at 43:35 , because people never film outros or intros
I had some fun trying to work out the song melodies of the ontro, I couldnt work out what song from When Dream And Day Unite was used because it was mainly cut off but the rest I think is Another Day, Space-Dye Vest, Hells Kitchen, Strange Deja Vu, About to Crash, In the Name of God, Sacrificed Sons, In the Presence of Enemies, A Nightmare to Remember, Breaking All Illusions, False Awakening Suite, Act of Faythe, Pale Blue Dot, A View from the Top of the World, and then into Night Terror.
I'll tell you at what spot people where looking most of the time......
He's back!
Great setlist! And This is the Life, love that song so much, never thought they'd play it live again!!
It's actually one of the reasons I'm considering watching them live in Poland. And I thought I'd quit it after last time.
Great.
Thank you for filming.
P.S. I am enjoying 'hearing' JM. (Octavarium) He's rockin out too! For so many shows, even going back the MP eras, you couldn't hear him. Sounds good! Love that Bongo!
JM deserves a spotlight for that iconic stream intro
ドリームシアター、ほんとにありがとうございます。😊🎉😊❤😊🎉😊
Thanks man greetings from greece
that legit medley for the intro
I have dreamed MP comes back since 2010.
What a fantastic day😂
The intro is sooooo BEAUTIFUL ORCHESTRATION....
DREAM THEATER is once in a lifetime musicians....❤❤❤
To God be the Glory❤
Excellent concert 🔥🔥🔥 The boys are out in full force! Side note: poor Jordan has to be half deaf by now setting up next to Portnoy and Mangini for all these years.
thank you for uploading this buddy , waiting for the 3rd and 4th set ❤❤❤❤❤ ,
fantastic, incredibly grand… thanks brother for sharing the vídeo….
looking forward to November 16th here in Portugal… seeing these guys playing Octavarius… I’m very excited… it’s no words to say
I WANT TO SEE BRIDGES IN THE SKY LIVE
This is the life brought a lot of tough memories in my life backthen and in addition MP has just left the band in 2011 with an album called "dramatic turn of events"... so it was very special to listen to.
My deepest sympathy to everyone in the band including Labrie for having courage and tenacity in moving forward with life.
00:10 Apple music should use that animation on Dream theater album cover 😊
LaBrie's vocals on "Under a Glass Moon" are a crime.
Thanks for the video.
33:03 I was dreading the audience clapping. Realised this is a DT show. Probably the most in sync audience clapping 😅
So cool to hear Portnoy on This is the Life
Because they certainly couldn’t do any other songs requiring high level skill
He even sing the backing part
@@melodic777 Without Mike Portnoy This is the Life wouldn't exist because there'd be no Dream Theater. Just because you wet your panties for Mike Mangini doesn't mean MP isn't highly skilled
So cool to hear labrie on stream
Man Night Terror translates really well live. The second set was a treat to witness for usre.
You're doing God's work uploading these videos, thank you!
Great to see the guys all shredding again in 2024. Shame about James' voice but age does that I guess. He's still better than the majority of his peers, so cut him some slack ;-)
Glad to see all back together again only complaint from me being a drummer wished I could have heard Mike's drums a little better other than that great show
After octavarium you would think they are done. But no, 50% only.
Well, at least we can’t accuse James of lip syncing…
Wish we could it would sound alot better
I would be perfectly fine with some “help” from some backing tracks when needed. Not whole time but yeah. It’s all good we know he’s gotten older
🤣
Labrie is in some danger here with his voice, trying to get to those high notes and sipping water after every part. Outstanding performance though thank you for the recording
I am absolutely blown away by this setlist! Awesome to have MP back and in charge of the setlist 😁🤘
0:16 ¿Space-Dye Vest referencia?
Hay referencias de cada disco en realidad. Es como un repaso de la discografía antes de llevar a lo que sería el presente (Night Terror)
Si es la misma melodía de la guitarra pero con strings y en un tono distinto, pero obvio sí lo es
Portnoy backing vocals! Man I have missed that! This Is The Life chorus at 17:45 , how did they manage that part in the MM era? Tapes, of no BV?
JP did bv back then iirc
DT for me is more than just a band, but more of a family, Labrie especially, you don't throw away your own brother even when he's not in good condition anymore and replace him with another person right? well if you see DT just as a band, that's different story
JP nailed that solo in This is the Life!
Sekian lama tak terdengar lagi octavarium secara live, dan surprize banget kembalinya MP lagu ini dibawakan kembali 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Padahal pengen denger octavarium versi MM tapi gapernah dimainin pas live. Pas portnoy balik baru dimainin lagi 🥲
@@purapura_gaming Meskipun portnoy mainin Barstool Warrior & this is the life, soulnya mangini yg khas ilang bjir, udah kek dulu pas portnoy out, protes soulnya dia ilang, sekarang pas MP mainin lagunya mangini, malah ilang juga soulnya, emang kalo beda style mah susah
@@LUCIFER-zeuz ya begitulah setiap musisi punya ciri khasnya masing2 yg akan melekat ke lagu yg dia buat. Sekalipun mau ditiru 100% tetap saja "rasa" di instrumen yg dimainkan jadi beda. 😅
Thanks for the upload!
Night Terror some AMAZING Petrucci riff rather spectacular.
Excelente servicio
Thanks for the videos! ...
Thanks for the video!
1:02:34 WOW! that was Legendary!
His extreme highs and lows are intact. Everything in between is... not...
Thanks for filming it brother!
This is IT ! ❤🎉
Tks So much for uploading, again lol... God bless you
I mean I love LaBrie and he is a legend but I think its time for a farewell and step down for a new singer that is able to sing all the high notes without struggling, no hate at all, hes been an awesome singer but times up
It's a good thing that now there are apps to cut vocals out of music....
Thank you Sir! Awesome job!
Stream of consciousness and Octavarium 🤘🤘
Im honestly okay w/ James' singing at a lower register
Well, they have to erase the best songs of the setlist for that
@@Txaman88 or downpitch? lots of bands do it. leads to a different vibe but it's not as bad as James *completely* messing it up
@@harvester_of_sorrow96exactly, tool do it with a few of their songs to make it comfortable for mjk
@harvester_of_sorrow96 You realize that in order for the high notes in some of the early songs to be in james range, they'd have to tune down like almost an entire octave right? And at that point the low notes would be unsingable.
@@vosoryanactually they could just tune down a step or two which is common with old rockers and then drop the octave on the higher melody notes like he’s doing here but be lower key then it is here. Still doesn’t change James a little off key and flat on the low notes here and there either
dude, OCTAVARIUM
agghhh the feels are real
