I've always had an eye for the v-tail Bonanza. Something about its looks captivated me when I was young. Apparently my great-grandfather felt the same way. He owned the infamous "Doctor Killer." It was bare metal with red trim. I have a black and white photo of him and my grandmother from when he picked it up new from the Beechcraft facility in Wichita, KS in 1947. He was an architectural engineer and would use it to hot shot around to various job sites. Just a few months later, he was returning home when weather conditions became solidly IFR. Inexperience combined with primitive 1940's navigational technology caused him to end up quite a ways off course and either out of fuel or confused on his location, he came down through the cloud layer and clipped into a tree, killing him instantly.
While I inherited his love for aviation, this (and finance reasons) are why I stick to simulators. I do use his tail number on my aircraft in the sim.

@@mikecoffee100 It is definitely a Carenado plane for what that is worth. I've felt their more recent outputs have been much better but yeah, you still get the amazing visuals but a moderate flight model and sounds. It is unfortunate that they strip away the extras for the historic flyer series as I would have gladly paid $25 for it to have the extra depth that their Skymaster has. And for me, the Just Flight Arrows are still the king of the single-engine GA add-ons.
Though for $15, I do not feel ripped off and I haven't noticed any bugs or things not working properly. My one complaint is that it feels a bit sterile to fly compared to their D18, though I can't really comment to the accuracy of the flight model. It feels "pleasant." I do find myself rolling it out of the hanger fairly often and it has just enough system depth for my standards. And man, it looks gorgeous from the external view when flying in front of a sunset. Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I do have a connection to this particular plane so that does boost my enthusiasm for the product.

      Hi Rusty,
Thanks for sharing your story - very sorry to hear about your great-grandfather; as Hiortintexas mentions, a nice little tribute there on the tail number. If memory serves me correctly, the Carenado Bonanza does in fact come with a bare-metal / red trim paint scheme, so hopefully you can do one or two flights in his honour : )

I just purchased this airplane a few hours ago. I don't have much to complain about, I think it is visually stunning as most Carenado products are. It's nice to fly and handles pretty much as I expected. As you mentioned the sound could be a bit better but I'm not too disappointed with it, and we don't have the tablet this time around. However, I like that the animated static wicks were included. I know its a small detail, but I just think it adds a touch more immersion. It would be nice to have a visual copilot in the right seat too. Anyway, I think it was worth the price. Nice review!

Yeah fair enough GD, I know you won’t be the only one feeling this way and let’s be honest, we aren’t short of single-engine options in the sim at this point. Ultimately we’ll hopefully see the A2A Bonanza in MSFS at some point and needless to say it will make the Carenado version rather moot. As I always say in these videos, personally I don’t mind Carenado’s MSFS output thus far, but it is a real shame that they don’t put as much care and attention into other aspects of the aircraft, as they do with the visuals. If they did, they’d be on to a winner!

Good morning! Fun and informative video as always.
This video's venue brings a lot of memories as I took my primary private pilot training out of KRNO and practiced numerous landings at Reno/Stead KRTS (4SD back when I was learning lol) as it is a good field with a long runway and in the afternoon, challenging wind conditions. I used to do a lot of scenic flights with friends over Tahoe and Incline Village, I really like that MSFS can offer scenery that pretty much looks like the real thing! As a kid growing up in Reno, we used to go to the Air Races every year as well.
The Bonanza looks okay but I am waiting for the upcoming A2A Comanche. This will set a new standard for sim A/C. I am usually ambivalent about Carenado products but I do really like the Cessna Skymaster and the earlier Mooney M20 they have released.
In lieu of A2A in the meantime, I find the Just Flight GA aircraft (All Warrior marks and the Archer) to be excellent and a great current sub for A2A's current absence from MSFS. The MilViz Twin Cessna is also excellent.
    Happy flying and cheers 😀

      Hello Andy,
Ahh well I’m happy that the video brought back some familiar memories! It looks like a beautiful area of the world to do some flying in.
Yes, I think many of us are still waiting on A2A haha (although the Comanche wouldn’t have been my first choice personally). Obviously Carenado can’t hold a candle to the likes of A2A, but I’ve been enjoying some of their output given the price (the Mooney and the Skymaster are indeed enjoyable in their own right). As you say, despite A2A not having shown up in MSFS just yet, we do have a plethora of nice choices at this point : )
Cheers again and all the best!

Man how I wish Carenado would do proper sounds for their planes. I can live with the shallow depth of system simulation (fine for the price) but the sounds are bad. I have their Twin Beach and the throathy radials are barely audible, the mixing between the startup sounds and the idle sounds are an immersion ruining joke... it's just bad. They never update anything, too, so there's that. The Beech 18 has been out two months now and the autopilot is still dysfunctionnal for the rest of the flight if you flip the landing lights switch. And the fuel pump sounds way louder than both engines. It's a shame.
Thank you for the review, always a pleasure to watch them.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому +1

I agree Andrei, that for the types of aircraft Carenado have been producing of late, a good soundset is a must. They’ve had a couple of good efforts (the C170 and the Waco spring to mind), but their last couple of aircraft have been very “meh” in the sound department and the Beech 18 in particular was a real shame.
Personally I feel that Carenado’s product updates have been reasonable (though I seem to be in the minority there); there have been numerous updates for most of their products thus far. Unfortunately anything that is handed over to Asobo, seems to receive very little attention thereafter - I think the blame lies with both Asobo and the dev for that. I think the B18 will get fixed up, but 2 months without a fully functional autopilot is pretty poor.
My pleasure on the review! Thanks very much for watching once again : )

      Hi Alexander,

Fair enough. I know many feel the same way as you and I totally get it. Personally I like the extra functionality, as many of the aircraft Carenado create, will probably not see another version within the sim, but I completely agree that at this sort of price point, it does make some of the aircraft's shortcomings more palatable in general.

Had one at my home base. Not a Doctor but owned shrimp/fish farms. His son wanted nothing to do with aviation so I flew with this man every time I had the chance. A plane every one recognizes and this one was a real pooch but not a hanger queen. Haven't flown the sim version but she is slippery, stable light controls but rolled fairly easy. Most structural failures were vfr pilots in imc and lost awareness overstressing the frame. A very high loss rate due to few ifr ratings then whcih gave it the reputation.

It depends what you’re after really; the V-tail is a nice option for cruising around in style and I think the aircraft is a decent enough offering (especially if you can pick it up at a reduced price), but it’s a Carenado aircraft, so really it’s beauty is only skin deep (that said, there aren’t any “show-stoppers, when it comes to bugs etc).

That would indeed be an interesting aspect to investigate, although I'm not sure that either flight model (being a default aircraft vs a Carenado aircraft) would really do the Bonanza justice. As FoBy points out, the Carenado V35 can certainly demonstrate some aggressive behaviours if mishandled, but I'm not sure to what degree those behaviours are accurate (I know the V-tail has a reputation, but I believe a lot of its accidents were actually caused by VFR pilots, inadvertently entering into IMC conditions).
Anyway, alas I'm pretty pushed for time just keeping up with reviews currently, so I don't think I'll be able to make such a video myself.

I actually think that the V35 is the slightly more polished product (better sounds and flight model), but single-engine GA options are abundant in the sim, whereas the Beech 18 offers a more unique flying experience (be warned, the autopilot is still a bit buggy though). That being said, if the above doesn’t hold much sway with you and you’re just asking which is the best product of the two, again I would probably have to say the Bonanza overall.

      Hi Isaac,
I think I know what you mean; increasing the throttle does tend to give a higher engine note, increasing the treble and reducing the bass from what I can tell. A a result, it does sound a little bit as though the engine is getting quieter at high power settings. Personally I didn't find this effect to be too bad though and whilst I do think that the Bonanza's sounds need work, I generally didn't have an issue with the volume levels themselves (if you're using the headphone simulation in the sim, perhaps consider turning that off).

You fly well. I'd let you fly my Bonanza over KTVL. Been there many times. Usually it is not busy at all, not what a person would expect.
How do you trim the plane so well? Do you use the trim assist?
Without tactile feedback from the yoke I have a hard time trimming well and it's hard to hold altitude, especially IFR.
I'm a commercial pilot but new to sim.
Also how do you turn off the pop-up tags every time the cursor contacts a clickable item? They are frustrating and often block what I need to see.
Is there a way to sue the keyboard to program the 530? Using the dials is tedious .
    Thank you very much,
    Bill

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  7 місяців тому

      Hello Bill,
Thank you very much for the kind words!
Trimming in the sim, is quite a different exercise vs trimming in the real world. As you mention, there isn’t any control feedback of course (unless one is using a force-feedback yoke); I tend to put in course trim, to ease up on my control inputs and then trim the rest out with my controls centred. Thereafter, it’s easier (in the sim) to fly pitch with trim, rather than the controls.
To turn off the pop-ups, you need to go into your settings menu and find the “Cockpit Tooltips” option (or something similarly named) and turn that off.
The “Working Title” mod, does allow the user to input to the GNS530 with a keyboard (next to the entry field, there is a small keyboard prompt) however, I don’t believe the mod comes included with the Carenado Bonanza. There is a way of configuring the Bonanza to include the mod but, I haven’t tried that myself and I am not all that familiar with the process (Google may be able to help you there).
I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

I’ve spent hours on the sim and I’m learning much like I had to learn to fly any new aircraft. I find the ‘ buttonology’ as we call it and the IFR procedures to be helpful in the real world. I had the Maule (the physical one) out yesterday and I was sharp on approaches. The real plane is DRAMATICALLY easier to handle than the simulated one. If it’s a short taxi instruction at a familiar airport, then I may just commit it to memory, but otherwise it’s nice to have the clearance on paper, to refer back to throughout the taxi. The rest of Carenado's output is average though and the Arrow III, Seneca and especially the Beech 18 were rather "lacklustre". Just Flight and Milviz do indeed tend to absolutely nail the sounds and to be fair at this sort of price point, personally I wouldn't hold Careando to the same standards (though of course I would love it if they were achieving the same results!).

Indeed Mike; the Carenado Bonanza isn’t study level, but (as ever with Carenado) it’s a beautiful rendition of the aircraft and more than pleasant enough for cruising around in. I took the V-tail for another flight recently and very much enjoyed it : )

I can forgive Carenado given the price point, but I agree that such features would have been nice to see nevertheless.

As far as I can tell this is the same sound package as the Carenado Arrow. I find it interesting how enamored the community is by this aircraft while the Carenado Arrow got dumped on. It is pretty but their Arrow has the best night lighting in the sim IMHO so I see no need to buy another GA in this class just for another 10 knots in the cruise. Xbox btw so no JF arrow after 1 year…
Please, WT GNS530 update now that the G1000 is done - in the name of everything third party Xbox!

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому

      Hi Tickle,
Yeah, I think you might be onto something there; I too thought the Bonanza sounded ratherrrr similar to the Arrow. The Arrow did initially release in a pretty poor state, quite a lot of bugs etc, so that’s probably why it’s not held in high regard; I flew the aircraft again recently though and rather enjoyed it overall. The Bonanza was more “polished” on release and obviously it’s a design classic, so I think that’s why the product has been given a warmer reception. As you say though, the V35 doesn’t offer anything “game-changing” in the sim, that cant already be found in other addons.
      All the best! : )

@@IntotheBlueSimulations Hey, thanks for the reply - I had forgotten I even wrote this. This makes sense as I picked up the PA-28 on sale a while after release with a bug in the landing light angle being the only issue other than having the KAP autopilot which is probably the worst SDK autopilot in the sim when it comes to random bugs that seem to have no rhythm or reason.
Fair enough comments - if folks don’t have either, the V35B is the better value unless there is a sale and then it is probably more down to personal taste.
Having seen a little more there may be a few differences in sound but it just seems like a few tweaks to the mix rather than a new sound package.

      Hi Ricardo,
Well I think it depends on one's frame of reference: I don't think Carenado are doing a great job as compared with the higher fidelity addons out there, but for $15, *personally* all I'm expecting is an aircraft that behaves in a broadly representative fashion and is pleasant enough to fly (and I think the V35 ticks those boxes). For sure much of their output is a bit pitchy and many of the tail draggers exhibit strange behaviours on takeoff etc, but this is true of many addons within the sim.
I enjoy higher fidelity addons myself, but that has never been what Carenado are looking to provide. For those who want a more casual simming experience, I feel that Carenado offer decent value for money with products like the V35.
To each his own though of course! Cheers and all the best : )
