The best advice I've ever gotten about being a DM: "Don't sweat the small stuff!"
this seriously changed how I got ready for games and how I prepare adventures.

18:00 Don't just charge your players by the hour, hit them with microtransactions for magic items and lock their class features behind a premium battlepass. And give them a reduced amount of XP unless they pay for a premium subscription. And pause the game every ten minutes to play ads unless they pay for ad free sessions. And make a "stamina" mechanic that limits the amount of times they can roll dice in a session, unless they pay for a recharge. While your at it, charge them to refill class resources too. "Out of spell slots? Get a Spell Slot Booster for $19.99!"

I think his advice was "don't be discouraged" and to look for ways to learn from the experience.

14:56 haha I see this all the time.
Ooh I’m gonna get really into this hobby! They buy all the equipment, all the nice stuff, get super committed and then… disappear. Never to be seen again.
Over commitment is a problem, not sure what causes it.

There’s this idea that a hobby is incompatible with effort or improvement that prevails in the modern day.
Model kit builders slapping kits together without proper tools, people getting upset that people are better than them in videogames (tryhards), the “I don’t care if it’s pay to win I just want to put some cash down and skip to level 100” guys.
      Programmed by free dopamine.
