Many years ago Santana came to play for the 1st time to the Coliseo Roberto Clemente at Puerto Rico.He saw my son Carlitos in my arms struggling to see the concert.Carlitos is a handicap children.I took him to see the maestro. Suddenly Santana made possible for us to share the stage with him while playing. He took some time, while the band was playing to talk to my son and be very tenderly to him.Today Carlitos is really ill at the hospital struggling to survive. We will never forget when Carlitos met Carlos S and joy and happiness overload all of us.This is another reason of why Carlos S is not only in the rock and roll hall of fame but also in the hearts of his fans.On behalf of Carlitos than you very much Carlos for your sympathy and love.Jorge.
@@tonylanderos2807 Gracias.
When Santana came on the scene, my band immediately learned "Black Magic Woman," and "Oye, Como Va." I had no freaking idea of what 'Oye, Como Va' meant, but I certainly sang it with enjoyment and conviction. This group did more to introduce Latin music to the world of popular music than any other single band I can think of. God bless you all.
Vocês são simplesmente fantásticos e atemporais !!!!!!!!! São décadas de músicas e ritmos que fazem gerações dançarem encantadas !!!!!!!! Obrigada por vocês existirem 🙏👏👏👏❤🇧🇷
I really wish they'd allotted sufficient time for Michael Shrieve's brilliant and eloquent acceptance speech. And sadly, bassist David Brown (seen in the shadows) was to die of kidney/liver failure less than 2 years after receiving this award.
It’s so sad for me because he really solely deserves this hall of fame with it really being known and talked about. He drove Santana’s sound in the early days
As with so many other fans of this great band, thank you gentlemen for creating so much wonderful music that have truly become part of our individual lives. ❤️
What the initial guy said about Santana bringing in together the music of the Western Hemisphere, from Alaska to Chile is so damn true! Zero politics, just awesome music! El Maestro, my youth hero from back in the 70's!
I don't know for sure but I get from some of his interviews that he wanted to do different things or go in a different direction because everyone would focus on his Soul Sacrifice performance. Maybe at the time he wanted to distance himself from that image. But, his interviews suggests that he appreciates and accepts that his Soul Sacrifice performance means a lot to everyone.
Juan, Michael Shrieve was hospitalized for a really bad kidney stone back in 1973. He was dropped from the band when Santana had to go out on the road to support the album. Difficult to keep playing when he is hospitalized. He has continued to help Carlos and all the originals reunited to record the album Santana III
I think John Popper was supposed to talk about the Santana Band, not just about Carlos as a guitar player. I wonder what was thinking the rest of the band at the moment of the speech. Awkward moment for Carlos I guess.
No Javier Batiz?!?! Carlos Adopted/Stole His Guitar Style from him. They played together in The TJs (Band) In Tijuana Mexico in the Early 60s. when they split Batiz went South to Mexico city & Santana went north to San Fran... Any Mexican Guitarist would knows this... Its well known in Mexico. My Dad told me this, then years later jumped on line & yup it pops up
+flyinghorse13 This is an award for playing guitar in a rock and roll band....This award means he did and has walked the path of elite musicians and bands. I have a feeling he hasn't forgotten his mistakes, or troubles in his personal life. However; if you would like some examples of the goodness of Carlos, his character, the following website should take you to a post about Carlos helping the homeless.. ua-cam.com/video/s2rVpnWnRUU/v-deo.html If this address doesn't get you there, you can look over to the right side of this video. You mention walking the walk, and I guess you are the judge of the correct walk. I consider myself as a follower of Jesus, and I have also learned from the teachings of others. John Lennon had anger issues, so he dedicated his life to peace. But sounds like you would be more comfortable with the "contemporary christian" music, which is made by sinners, as well. A person who lives by the teachings of Jesus, would realize that all are sinners.
A lot of these Rock Stars talk about peace, focus, clarity etc. But embrace a middle eastern philosphy that does not embrace Christ as Gods only son, but talk about Budda, Krshnia, Shiva which are false deities. I used to look up to Santana but when he cheated on Debra his first wife, I had to look at him in another light. And he has anger issues. Some people talk the talk but they can't walk the walk. What makes a person great is his charater , so we better be careful who we look up to.
David Hasselhoff Yeah , seems like you must have made some too, however in life we should learn to correct those mistakes. Don't preach nothing you can't practice. Moreover, my vocabulary is large enough that I don't have to use profanity to get a point across or thinking it sounds cool. You calm down dude.

Great to see that Carlos gave Ritchie Valens the respect that he deserves

Fun fact, Black magic woman was written by Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac in 1968

wow seeing Carlos credit Ritchie Valens was so sweet
Santana e os antigos integrantes merecem tudo de bom !
There is something fantastic about Michael Shrieve’s playing.... I’d
say it played a big part in Santana’s original success....
I really wish they'd allotted sufficient time for Michael Shrieve's brilliant and eloquent acceptance speech.

Michael Shrieve's speech is elsewhere on YT. Check it out!

Viva Santana ,Viva Rock n roll

Michael Shrieve is a brilliant drummer, wonder why he never played with Santana anymore.
Michael did play with Carlos off and on and in the studio over the years. Where have you been ??
He does still play with the band on tour at times.

Jose Angel Tollens you have it backwards. Search for interview with Shrieve.

Awwe. I thought you were some Norwegian hottest! Great concert solo at woodstock l! Who knew a lille white guy could hold his own in a Latin band!😊
Unfortunately, all of these speeches were cut way short In this video. What a shame.

Mike looks better with long hair. He was one of the best back in the day before he became civilized
oh wow he forgot Malone that ex bandmate that was homeless
Why didn't David Brown make a speech ? What the hell.
I think he was very sick at this point.....it wasn't too long after this that he passed away...
Oh I see, very sad to see him go too soon :( RIP David Brown

Carlos stole Greg Koch's beanie.

Popper ...just shut up and introduce Carlos.
Dreadful intro and commentary. Get on with Mike Shrieve's chat.
The lighting on the stage is atrocious!!!!

Words one can easily hide behind my friend.. and what about your darkest hour... casting stones is easy.
Calm the fuck down, you're not winning an award here. Everybody makes mistakes, it's part of life.

Chris Guerrero lip service means nothing, it's about what we do that's important. If you are a public figure , it comes with the territory.
+flyinghorse13 well he's the best thank god he still alive im cristus
