FLAGPOLING in CANADA | Visitor Visa to Spousal Open Work Permit in 1 day

- I came to Canada on a Visitor Visa and got my spousal open work permit after doing flag-poling at Point Roberts Boundary Bay Vancouver, Canada, just after 2 days of landing. By doing this you can get On-the-Spot work permit. This video explain the entire process of flagpoling.
The term Flagpoling is used when a foreign national who is already in Canada leaves Canada and returns to Canada without crossing into the USA. This can be done to obtain a new temporary residence status such as a renewed study or work permit or to complete the PR process.
Temporary Resident Visa holders usually apply online but the process, can take weeks or months to obtain a SWOP. But by going to the border you may your Work permit immediately.
CBSA tries to limit Flagpoling because it places additional strain on border services. However, it is a perfectly legal process, and application processing is done on the spot.

when you do flagpoling, do you still need to do online application and fillout the forms or you just go straight to the border?

Hello Rohan just need your suggestion I have a valid visit visa for me and my kids, I have applied for a sowp along with study permit for my kids on 19th December 2022 but still waiting for my results so my question is can I come down on visit and change my visa to sowp on the same file which is currently in the pool and do I need to inform ircc about this changes through a webform. thank you but actually that is not the case. only owp applicant has to re-enter. spouse can be there in cbsa office and accompany but should not exit country. btw i have got it. thank u

Hi your visitor visa will remain valid for the number of years it is originally approved for. Only your status will change from visitor to a temporary worker. Work permit will be issued for the same time your spouse’s study permit / work permit is valid

I applied for visitor visa for husband after 8 months of marriage. It was processed within 2 weeks.

@@hemalshodhan6051 in order to apply for spouse the proof of relationship is required. I had marriage certificate and photographs to as proof. We did not apply for SOWP yet since he is yet to travel to canada. So can’t comment on SOWP.

You need to go their in-person and book your appointment

I have already applied PR for her as an Outland applicant, I can update the address through webform once she is in Canada. Does it means inland applicant?

Hi, I’m afraid I may not have an expert opinion on this since you have already applied her PR.
But to the best of my knowledge sowp can be issued from flag poling, if you can prove your relationship. You can definitely go the border and check with the border service agency and evaluate your option.

@@rachuridharmaraju1983 yea I read that! That’s why I’m saying continue with that process instead of sowp. Reason: Because sowp is linked to a work permit or study permit of the sponsor. And since you are on PR, I don’t this will apply to your case. So better to continue with the PR process.

No, if your spouse is not studying you cannot get a sowp. There won’t be any base to convert your visitor visa. You can get work permit if your spouse is currently working in Canada or is student.
