- I'm sharing my flagpole experience for getting a SOWP or Spousal Open Work Permit. Explained self-experience and dos & don'ts. If you need a work permit or need to renew your work permit you may opt for this process to get the same in no time. Online application takes time which varies from five to six months.
It is advisable to apply online well in advance in case of fresh/renewal but if you can't for any reason you may go for this option.
Required documents, application process, and application fees are mentioned in the video.

Hi, will the procedure remain same for me if I already have approved SOWP with correspondence letter? I just need to validate my work permit and get the copy of work permit.
Can the employer join the interview at the border if he comes with us for flagpole? Is the interview in car at the window where we enter Canada? Or we have to walk inside the office?
Employer may join you during the interview. You have to go inside the office and meet with the officers. Hope that helps!

Can we get PGWP and sowp at the same time through flag polling,
if pgwp already applied online and in progress, can we still go ahead for flag polling ? Will it over ride the application already submitted
@kunwarprateeksingh3403 - Hello, Good question. Yes, you can apply for PGWP & SOWP at the same time. It will not override the application, both are independent processes. If you get your WP from Flagpole, you will get another one via the postal service delivered to your address. Both will have the same expiry date.
Hey great video, please help me answer a couple of question - when flagpoling did you carry spouse's employment letter and 3 paystubs with you ? did the IRCC checked for valid spouse employment letter and 3 paystubs ?
@adityaintouch - Yes, we carried the employment letter with last 3 months pay stubs (remember we get 2 paystubs in a month here) and also bank statement just for a saver side. Officer didn't ask for a bank statement to us but it depends on officer to officer. Better to carry all the documents safer side. Hope that answers your questions. Best of luck.

Medical is also needed? And is it possible to visit at border with 2 paystubs.?

That's correct!
It’s showing to apply online only as have to submit marriage certificate and other documents like work permit of other spouse, if we go directly to border will they accept these documents directly?
Under nw policy sowp is banned.. if spouse is on visitor visa doing flagpoling works to get open work permit?
@lalitadhongadi35 - No, those are IRCC policies and everyone has to follow, immigration officers can't override the same during flagpole.

Is Main applicant compulsory with us for open work permit flagpoling?
Yes, it will support your case and to convince the officer.The officer may ask a few questions to the main applicant. Better to go along with the original marriage certificate.
I didn’t understand when u mentioned that they asked you to go back as they were done with their quota for the day. So were you in Canada or US? Where did u stay the night? And do we need US visa for this process? Can we take the spouse along who is currently in worker status in Canada? Sorry for a lot of questions 😅
@namincanada - Hi, you have all the valid questions. Let me answer them one by one.
1. So were you in Canada or US? - I was in Canada only, We just needed to go to the US border and return to Canada to meet Canadian border security officers. At the US border, the officers know the process very well you just need to say that you are here for the flagpole and they will take care of the rest.
2. Where did u stay the night? - We returned home and planned for another day, this time we knew the process pretty well.
3. Do we need US visa for this process? - No we don’t need a US visa as we are not crossing the US border but just doing the flagpole.
4. Can we take the spouse along who is currently in worker status in Canada? - Yes, you have to. Both’s presence is indispensable. Bring the stated documents in originals for validation purposes. That’s it. Let me know if you still have any questions.

@@forbetterreach7114 im holding a tourist visa here in canada and planning to change it to work permit. In case i do flagpoling do i still need to present medical certificate?
Yes, they check the medical. Medical remains valid for up to 1 year, if yours is less than a year then you don't need to do it again. They can check with the UCI number in their records. In my case they didn't check the original but they validated their system. Hope that answers your question.

No my case was different, new guidelines are for students and their spouses.
Bro i am in canada on visitor visa. I want to apply sowp what my concern is if they refuse my sowp then what will happen? Will they let me stay in canada on my visitor visa or will they send me to india?
@___behappy - Hello, If they reject for any reason. You can still continue your stay in Canada on visitor status. There should not be any problem. They will provide you the reason for the rejection. Be Happy :)

@JohnWick-bg9cp - I would suggest going for a direct flagpole if you have a job offer and your employer wants to join asap or if you can convince you will get a job asap if you have a work permit. Please keep in mind flagpoling is not an alternative to online applications. Hope that helps.
Bro - In order to get SOWP, should your spouse have a Job in NOC O, A & B?
NOC now converted to TEER system, Technically all skilled workers' can apply for SOWP for their spouses. I have one more question actually I applied online for spouse work permit extension and my visa status is expiring on 30th April and I do have a offer where I have to join on 16 th April and I am not sure whether I will receive the hard copy of work permit extension before that, can I go for flag polling?

I have one query. I got sowp in India. Worker stamp on passport but when I landed canada immigration officer asked me question about my wife study. That time she was on drop due to my baby is only 4 months and officer gave me visitor permit rather then work permit so now I got my work permit to show the enrollment letter. May intake 2024
