Both sound great. The Supro has a richer midrange and more complex voicing. The fender has the sparkle and has more high end sparkle with a fairly thin midrange and that punchy fender TtxckmthY works perfectly with a Strat. For punchy and funky rhythm its hard to beat the Fender. It's hard to beat a Deluxe or Twin. For versatility with no pedals other than the tube screamer, the Supro is superior. They both do a lot of things well a lot of things really well.' I would say that it comes down to personal preference. What inspires the player to play his best is the most important element as both are excellent pedal platforms but with the Fender you absolutely need pedals. If you have not heard a supro in person in a guitar sound booth you have no idea what it sounds like. In the same room it is rich, thick, lush and creamy. No wonder Page used it over his Plexi in the studio. The Supro is an incredible AMP.
Need pedals? A deluxe reverb on 10 with humbuckers is the best distorted amp sound I've ever heard. Followed very closely by the late 50s deluxe and bassman amps but I love that scooped blackface sound. All the treble and no bass volume on 10. Magic
I’ve actually played on both at a Guitar shop near by...both were creamy, the Fender, has a more presence, but the Supro has a lot more body...On a recording like this, that isn’t something that can be acknowledged bc this is very two dimensional. When I played on a Supro, I was blown away and taken by the resonance and how much body the sound has, creamy in its own regard as well. I think in a live setting, people’s opinions may sway to a Supro... if you were to play a Fender and a Supro together, they would be a perfect match; Fender would be like a Taylor guitar and Supro would be like a Martin guitar.
They both are unbelievable at what they do. For low gain sweet midrange the Supro and for a glassy scooped sound the fender. Take your pick but I think you should own both if you have the means and crave authentic iconic tone
two different animals in the same cage. neither is better in terms of tone. it's just what tone you desire. if you can only have one,you choose the amp that gives you you're base tone that you use 90% of the time. you can always modify the tone to the other amp outboard via pedals. the Fender natural clean tone hasn't quite been duplicated via a stomp box that I've heard so far. btw,I own the Supro Thunderbolt plus. I swapped the tubes for a higher rating to keep it clean up to 8 so I can dirty it up on my pedal board. but then I own a Fender too. Wasn't giving that up. luckily I didn't have to. but the Supro is the best reissue amp to cone along in the last 20 years hands down.
Dai Johns: I am pretty sure that he played both without engaging the pedal for the clean sound in the beginning of each amps demo. Both amps are famous for their pristine clean tones. The pedal demonstration showed how each amp can achieve a really nice low gain sound. Neither amp would be a good choice for high gain/heavily distorted tones.
I have the Supro Neptune Reverb, basically same as this but 2 x 12, 25watt combo. One of the things that sold me on it was it’s beautiful clean and raw, out of the box tone. But what really put the icing on the cake is I put a Boss Wazacraft Metal Zone pedal in front of it and DAMN, can it do heavy rock and metal. Blown away, I bought both the Supro Neptune and the Boss pedal and went home a happy man 😁
The Supro has better "tweed" tone with and without the pedal. But there are a hundred other pedals that can emulate that sound with the blackface. Similarly, the Supro can be made to have that shimmery Blackface fender sound with a pedal, but it would be difficult to beat that deep fender spring reverb. As an oldtimer who uses only instrument and amp controls and maybe an attenuator, I'd go with the fender for its versatility, especially as an only amp.
I hate when people play at volume like their grandma is asleep in the next room! I want to hear amps demoed cranked up to volumes I play live at! Make them tubes sing baby!
If you play country, jazz or funk, get the DR. If you play raunchy, snarly, gnarly, gristly, grimy rock, garage punk, or heavy Zeppelinized blues-core, you gotta get the Supro.
Sold my Deluxe and bought a Supro Black Magick, Supro is way better in my opinion. My girlfriend who has good ears agrees. Supro has a more interesting and exciting sound.
I bought a new DRRI about 5 years ago and I barely use it. I wish I would have bought a Supro. The DRRI lacks mid range IMO. I need to sell it or mod it because it just sits. Call me crazy but I also own a HRD and yes I have to keep an EQ in the effects loop but it gets used 95% more than the DRRI.
ddhuber with the supro you would have to play almost twice as loud than the fender with a full band. The supro has too much low mid and would hide in a mix with a full band. Think about it, the piano hits low mid to mid range predominantly, the bass guitar lies in low to low mid range. That's too many instruments taking up the low mid frequencies and I can promise you that the bass guitarist will always win in the low mid frequencies and you'll be drowned out. You have to think sonically in a full band situation. You want to occupy the frequencies that aren't being covered. And that would be the high mid to high frequencies as a guitar player. So actually the less mids in your amp the better. Of course it's not going to sound the best when playing alone but I promise you that you'll be very pleased with how it mixes with a full band and you'll cut through the mix more and will be heard clearer! The deluxe reverb would sound better with a full band and you wouldn't have to be up near as loud which means less problems with bar owners lol, which results in more gigs! Rock on brother.
Buy the 68 custom reissue, the custom channel has a bassman circuit and can give you what you seem to be looking for. 65 is great for country and funk but the 68 is more versatile.
DR. I had the supro and at band volume it sounds like the speaker is blown. Fart....fart....fart fart. I was playing and staring at it saying to myself how much did I just pay for this? It went straight back.
How hard were you hitting the amp with pedals? Any amp will get farty if you let pedals do most of the work and hit the amp too hard. I have a 40w Blues Deluxe with a lower gain (more headroom) 12ay7 preamp tube in the V1 and I got a little overzealous with my drive pedals and even THAT got farty. No medicine like turning your amp up and letting it do it's thing. Just make sure when you fill in the spaces youre wanting with a pedal, not to hit the amp too hard with that pedal's level. I have the Supro Saturn as well, and I love it. Meat and potatoes, get the amp to a spot that makes happy by itself (Supros old and new like to be turned up!), and then use pedals to get ya the rest of the way home. Unless youre in a metal band. Then this is not the amp you want to use at all.

Supro sounds more full sounding by itself/no band but those nuanced highs in the fender are what make it stick out better in a mix.
M Matthews 100%
Killer tone with that Tube Screamer thru both amps. I love my Deluxe but a Supro might be in my future.
They both are unbelievable at what they do. For low gain sweet midrange the Supro and for a glassy scooped sound the fender. Take your pick but I think you should own both if you have the means and crave authentic iconic tone
Hard to beat that Fender clean, sounds amazing.

Supro, no contest! No need for a TS mid-hump, plenty there already.

Hmm.. Why not get both in paralell, the best of two worlds!? Just wondering!
I hate when people play at volume like their grandma is asleep in the next room! I want to hear amps demoed cranked up to volumes I play live at! Make them tubes sing baby!
The two fenders is the way to go i like that sound
Nice playing! I tend to lean to the DRRI as well. And for less money.
Deluxe Reverb!
FENDER FOR SURE
If you play country, jazz or funk, get the DR. If you play raunchy, snarly, gnarly, gristly, grimy rock, garage punk, or heavy Zeppelinized blues-core, you gotta get the Supro.
Oh, you can definitely do country with the Saturn, especially Americana/roots kind of stuff. Nice swampy tremolo on it too.
Both are great, but the overall character and midrange complexity make the Supro the winner of this round.
I'd go with the Fender.
the sound of the 65 bores the hell out of me.no personality.supro hands down
I like them both but for the money I'd lean Fender.
Magnifique and Magic and 65 reverb deluxe,
I liked the overdrive better on the Supro after 2nd listen.
liked the Supro better
fender brings more magic?
I'm a fender fanboy but goddamn that supro
Sold my Deluxe and bought a Supro Black Magick, Supro is way better in my opinion. My girlfriend who has good ears agrees. Supro has a more interesting and exciting sound.
What kind of deluxe did you have, did you get the Black Magick 1916 with reverb? I’m thinking of the 68 custom deluxe vs 1916 Black Magick at $1,499
@@danielmazur940 I got the non-reverb Black Magick. My Fender sounded boring next to it in my opinion.
I prefer the Deluxe Reverb on this video, but you should cranked them, instead of use a tube screamer. imo.
Supro won this one☝🏻
Supro has more balls
What’s the first song you’re playing on the deluxe reverb?
Holy shit! What kind of pickups are in that strat?
What is song at 2:43? Thanks for info.
SUPRO HANDS DOWN
im not positive but im pretty sure at 1:19 he picks his nose and flicks the booger
I can never get those sonsabitches to flick and fly ! Always hanging up on the thumb or forefinger. Must be my technique.

Buy the 68 custom reissue, the custom channel has a bassman circuit and can give you what you seem to be looking for. 65 is great for country and funk but the 68 is more versatile.
Fender all the way . more versatile, classic sound !!!!
don't want to be a stickler but G
out of tune?
Doing a demo on youtube with the guitar out of tune, well...
Both great but hard to beat Fender on cleans, its like Bayern Munchen
Really? hard to beat? the Fender sounds one dimensional, the Supro one thousand dimensional.
Supro sounds like it’s covered in towels. Very muffled. Also, how did you mic these? I keep hearing mic distortion, but I don’t see a mic on the amps.
BELL TONES my ears are covered in wet towels.
Supro has quite some reliability issues..
Take that pedal out and let's hear the amps on their own
Fender all the way
Fender 65
Fender !!!
I prefer Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb !...
Fender
DR. I had the supro and at band volume it sounds like the speaker is blown. Fart....fart....fart fart. I was playing and staring at it saying to myself how much did I just pay for this? It went straight back.
David Burleigh which model did you have?

Not a Toyota fan.
Fender DR !!!
Very good player though.
tune ur guitar
Tune your guitar please
Play that damn thing.. Why so gentle and quiet man? Cant get a feeling for the amps.
Take the amp back and invest in a tuner !
Goddamn, tune yr guitar next time.
A DELUXE WILL SOUND BETTER WITH A 25 WATT CELESTION SPEAKER.
Fender!
