Visions of Mana Is Worth your Attention | Impressions

- The upcoming Visions of Mana is a new action combat JRPG in the Mana series by Square-Enix. I feel like it hasn't gotten much buzz to be a highly anticipated release, and it comes out the same weekend as Star Wars Outlaws, so I wanted to highlight the demo and recommend those watching to check it out in case it wasn't on your radar.
I haven’t played a mana game before and tried the demo but now I’m super hyped for it. Furry Vergil is sick as fuck.
I'm glad you mentioned Octopath Traveler 2 at one point being one of your favorite games in recent times. I think it's a crime gamers have committed against themselves for largely ignoring it.
The first one was a snooze fest once you get over the honeymoon period provided by the cute visuals. So for me it makes perfect sense people didn't check out the second one
As someone who spent 120 hours on it and platinumed it, it is not THAT good. I was bored to tears about 60 hours in. Unfortunately I'm a perfectionist
The first one was so boring this was actually the first jrpg i didnt want to finish stopped playing after a while but i heard the second one improved a lot
@helmutkohl6207 Definitely improved, but still gets old. Best thing about it is the music honestly
@@shingetsu10yeah 100% agree. Love the visuals, but there’s a reason people didn’t flock to it, it’s not a game type people are asking for anymore these days.
I ordered the collectors edition, no regrets
“A lot of Saturday morning cartoon energy”. That’s my favorite part lol.
It's a weirdly good game. I played the demo and everything was starting to click. The battle system is actually amazing. Like LEGIT AMAZING. I started pulling off such neat combos. I can't wait to get Vision... I don't buy any ubi games so Vision is definitely my purchase.
Trails of Mana remake is also amazing game. I got it and it surprised me. So I know Visions is going to be good as well. Square has been putting a lot of love into their older series.
Trials of Mana was a Masterpiece and it seems like this game is a little more flushed out than that.
Yeeep. They actually BLEW me away with that remake. I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I did but I loved it.
Lmao a masterpiece? 😂
@@ronthorn3 i mean you don't have to think so but to argue over how someone should like a game as much is loser, maidenless behavior.
literally over here typing away like a loser thinking "i can't believe this guy has an opinion that i disagree with about something completely subjective let me tell him that he could be wrong despite that none of this is quantifyable, i just live for hating online because i have no joy"... at least that's what I imagined ran through you head before you commented because why tf do you care if someone thinks are game is a masterpiece?
@@ronthorn3 They nailed the vibe from the original game: the class system, the art style, the music and the boss fights. Unlike some other remakes they've recently made that involved mindless and meaningless filler
It's worse in every way.
Thanks for your opinion! You were right on the money. I truly hope this game gathers attention because it seems so lovely!
If I'm being honest I was super hyped for VoM but when I heard it's not coop. All my mana nostalgia went away. Playing secret of mana with my friends was the epitome of rpg memories. While I do want to play this. I really wish they'd consider coop
Look forward to watching outlaws flop! I’ll be playing Visions of mana and black myth!
Yeah fuck ubi
seriously how is anyone actually excited for that crap? it looks genuinely miserable to play.. not to mention the dei ugly women mandate 😂 so weird lol
Yeah man, I am really excited for this. I am a big fan of Square Enix, I do believe they are the masters of JRPG. And let me tell ya even as a person who thinks that all the modern FF games are great, I even like Kingdom hearts 3, Valkery Elysium and trials of mana though I find it a bit behind times. I just thing all those games had a darker more serious character, this one really looks like those super cute classic JRPGs that I really adore.
Definitely going to get this game 🎉
I love the Mana Series and have loved it since 1993 when Secret Of Mana first premiered. However, it's disappointing it was NOT released on a Nintendo console. Still, I'm hyped about this new version. I might have to partition my MacBook just so I can play this game.
Tried the demo on xbox now I'm getting it
Looks interesting for sure. I'm excited to try out the demo once I'm done with my current game.
I agree entirely - one point to add:
TREAT THE RING MENU JUST LIKE THE TACTICAL MODE IN FF7. When you call up the ring menu, you can issue commands to all your characters very much so like in FF7. The camera also gives a wider view of the battle and my sense is this game will shine in the boss battles.
Cool cozy command based combat. I'm sold.
You won't catch me out here dissing an RPG just because it is a "classic style" one.
For as long as I've been gaming I haven't played many JRPGs like that until fairly recently the gameplay reminds me of a slower version of Tales of Arise a game I absolutely love. Visions of Mana is certainly on my radar for later this month
As a HUUGE Secret of Mana fangirl, this game deftly walks the precarious tightrope of nostalgia. The demo brought tears to my eyes.
In the era of the internet, we expect the impossible from our nostalgia-this is why this modern classic is so special. I returned the Secret of Mana PS4 remake, but I couldn't give SquareEnix my money faster with Visions. 5 stars.
I might pick this up if it has a massive sale. It's way more expensive than other games I'm playing.
You could yeah. I do think there's going to be quite a bit of value in this package, multiple difficulties, NG+, gear/class grind. Since that was how Trials of Mana was.
7:42 lol That's a really cool little detail, because Kansai accent [which Karina has on JP dub] is also typically used in mid- southern/southern Japan. Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, and Nara.
Why do so many take issue with the southern accent? I find it adorable on the character, and suiting. I think movies have conditioned people to kneejerk hate the south and everything about it.
People just don't like southern accents because of personal reasons that dosn't always make sense but it doesn't mean their opinion is true.
I agree, I love her southern country voice. Works really well for the kind of character she seems to be.
i dont play english dub in japanese games. localization is usually absolute trash so i stick to japanese.
English dubs are trash in general, regardless of accent. Only Anglos seem to like it. The rest of the world rejects English subs as much as they are rejecting the Dollar as a reserve currency. Your time in the spotlight is over.
Not true. Nico from DMCV had a southern accent and she's the hottest female character ever.
Gacha games have a big impact on JRPGs because they are more accessible, to the point where they are seen as copies of Chinese and Korean games. 😮
I feel like I would've loved this game as a kid. Unfortunately I don't enjoy these games any longer. I might still buy it though.
Same, I mean I liked secret of mana when i was 8 years old, in the 90s. I liked Legend of mana when they released also, but as far as both of those games and future mana games go, the old ones haven’t aged well for me, and all of them since the first & 3 have just gotten shittier and shittier, or I’m just growing out of these corny ass cartoons games.
I just play the demo of this game on my steam deck and i really kinda like it and I cannot wait till August 29th just to play the full game 😃
Already overlooked...
Unfortunately the demo just didn't leave that great of an impression me.. It felt like a very safe by the book open world JRPG.. I wasn't getting that feeling that I'm playing Mana game.
Mana games are literally very safe by the book jRPGs. That's part of the appeal for me.
i can't... i have too many backlogs 😭
Lmao I didn't realize outlaws was out this month I was looking forward to genshin update, gundam breaker 4 and visions of mana.
Wish could go above 1080p
Didn't catch my attention. Demo felt a bit weird.
Octopath 2 tho is great 😮
It was revealed at The game Awards. I wish genshin never happened
Nah, it won't sell as you think but, Ubisoft Connect will get a bunch of new subscribers this month for sure. This should have released this game towards the end of July or the first week of August.
Tbh compared to SWO it looks much better. It's pre ordered and Im quite sad it will be underlooked by ppl. I rly like the serie, Trials of Mana was rly solid/good and this looks even better. Maybe it looks like this because I love Tales of series as well xD. I would probably wait with the buy but Dragon Age looks like abomination, so there is nothing else for me to wait for.
The Mana series is a lot like Y's. That's what I would compare it to. But not as many people have played Y's.
No wonder the clunky feeling kinda feels like lacrimosa. Ive been playing arise and relink until this game came out. But the demo. Idk man. I hope it gets better
Probably check this out, enjoyed granblue fantasy relink, even with its endgame problems i got a fun 50 hours out of it. Sometimes its nice to play a game that is just fun, it has a pretty obvious story nothing ground breaking, not a pile of excessively complex overlapping systems. Just a neat little game, with a pleasant artstyle that can be enjoyed without much thought. In general, i find myself enjoying what many would consider 6 or 7/10 that are simple and focus on fun above all else than games going for that "masterpiece" status as of late.
it doesn't really have endgame problems...
It has an endgame. That was the problem. All "endgame" states have pretty much the same flaws because they almost exclusively rely on RNG.
@@snazzydrew i suppose so, my main tiff was the and I can't even remember the name of the weapons, but you just had to grind the same boss. I did enjoy the post campaign end game, just that very very endgame killed my drive to get those weapons for everyone or even the characters I played. I don't have many complaints though, for what its worth I got a more than fair amount of playtime I enjoyed and will definitely look into any sequel they make.
@@imALazyPanda yep that's "endgame"... it's just a word that means "grind until you're bored"
Holy moly
I was playing in Japanese because I heard Careena's English voice 😂
I'm might just be too sensitive to this stuff, as I can't find anyone sharing my opinion, but, The "Male" character, Val, is setting off alarm bells.
Messaging in games, used to be about unity, overcoming hardships, and not judging others by immutable traits. Now, it's the polar opposite.
Does any of this “combat depth” really matter when the enemies are dumb as a rock? Also when your NPC partners are interrupting the flow of combat, it ruins it.
Better than outlaws
Movement and combat was too janky for me sadly. Didn't even wanna finish the demo because of this.
Thank you. These ppl gots to be bots. This game feels horrible
I stopped playing in 10 mins.
@@aesthetic2679 i thought it was clunky at first until I actually learned how to play... then it felt amazing.
imagine thinking pretty thought out comments are bots and your basic, not very wordy spam is not bot like.
People like you will never be able to tell the difference between AI and real people.
1:57 You wanted to say anology, not analog, lel
No, I wanted to say Analog. While not always needed, Analogy tends to be used to highlight similarities between two things that appear different. Analog means that it's analogous, which is simply "very similar to".
Demo felt rough imo.
I really want to like it and I think some elements of the game are done well but the demo didn't convince me to buy. The combat feels very clunky and doesn't flow for a lot of the demo, progression for levels and XP felt very drawn out. Unlocking new weapons at the end of the demo seemed like a poor choice since you have already formed opinions by then on what the demo gives you, felt like a gimmicky time sink for players when it could have been earlier just for the sake of the demo, allowing for more variety. Not a fan of the English voice acting but that's not a big thing I feel. I enjoyed previous installments from the Mana series, I'll probably wait for a big sale to purchase
yo hype
F*c k Star Wars outlaws and Ubisoft, this is the game I’m getting
Well ok 👍🏿
Tried the demo, the world is beautiful but the characters are way too anime along with the child like appearance for me.
I tried the demo. Personally it aint for me. Beautiful game i just bored quick.
Correction: Visions of Mana was revealed during The Game Awards last year, not in an Xbox event.
I'm open to a lot of games but not gonna lie this game has the same release window as black myth wukong and not gonna lie if there is one game that came out this year that I really looked forward to it's that one so sorry but I probably skip this one and wukong it is
4:11 I'm one of those who "not enough people play it", and for good reason. They've got mad lazy with the attack animations during combat. And I don't mean the spell casting animations but melee hits. The character just stands in place, swinging a sword, which doesn't even connect with the enemy, nor do your characters run towards/jump the enemy. That's that little thing/detail that, when it is nonapparent in a game, I immediatelly detest and put on my never-to-touch-list.
Whenever there are tactical combat games, no matter if 3D or 2D, I want my characters' attacks to feel weighty, like they've got some power behind them. Valkyria Chronicles is the perfect example. Octopath doesn't need VC's combat system but the way the characters move there and connect the hits, it just doesn't have that, so an easy pass for me.
You can get that by playing the lancer, even a combo has him jump in the air and slam down with his shield, plus with elements like the wind saber it feels like he’s slamming a bolt of lightning
Gotta say both this and Tales of Arise seem MUCH better presentation-wise in Japanese rather than the English dub.
Another botw/pal world yeah no thank you...
I won’t play it day one, cause I will prioritize Star Wars Outlaws and Black Myth.
Couch co op or gtfo!😜
Basically the raison d’etre of Secret of mana on snes was the coop feature.
I've tried it, I think it feels terrible to play, worse than Trial of mana.
Innovation wise it's nothing new.
I can see more innovations in smaller company like Nihon Falcom than this.
these recent jrpg games like tales of arise, octopath 1/2 and now this one visions of mana are too braindead, like there is almost no challenge and you can just smash throw things. i'm dissapointed.
Everything in the world is being dumbed down.
Tales of Arise is insanely hard if you crank up the difficulty.
Octopath is pretty balanced.
Just the demo, even trails had a hard mode
So far nothing you said makes the game sound unique or compelling
Old school lite RPG with real time combat? We had plenty of those recently
The art style is even worse than recent games like Granblue fantasy relink
These shallow RPG games aren't even deserved to be called a RPG because there's almost no roleplaying involved
In past it was OK. Games like chorono trigger and older FF games could get away with terrible side quests, terrible dialogues, poor pacing, lack of RPG depth
But nowadays we demand more
Either the game should be a skill based rpg game like monster hunter, nioh or soulsborne games which rely on their pure mechanical depth
Or games that go pure RPG route like baldur's gate 3, disco Elysium or...
I see no place in the industry for games like mana series, current FF or even the next tales series
And their terrible sales reflect on that
These games aren't deep enough to be considered A "RPG" and aren't good action games and most of the time they have terrible level designs
These games have a place in the industry, as do all games that reach their audience. Just because you don’t see anything appealing to you and seem to only consider WRPGS worth your time doesn’t mean people like me don’t want to play Visions of Mana. It’s one thing to express an opinion, and a different thing to speak as if you represent the entire consumer base and your word is law.
@@Mugthief sadly you guys are so low in number that square enix is getting bankrupt lol
And i didn't say these games have no place in the industry
I said "I see no place in the industry for these games"
It means I don't understand why the Very few people who buy these games, buy them in the 1st place
Why? Because they don't offer anything unique and they don't do anything that other games do way better
They're just dumbed down rpg games IMO
The JRPG genre failed to adapt to modern standards and that's my biggest problem with these modern JRPG games
This year alone I've paid 200$ on jrpg games :paper mario a thousand years door, FF7 rebirth & granblue fantasy relink (heck i live in a country where the mean annual income is less than 2000$ so it hurts even more) and they've all disappointed me to no end
The only successful JRPG franchises are Pokémon and Persona
Persona is successful only because of it's dating sim aspects not the gameplay or level design or RPG elements
And Pokémon is popular because it's Pokémon and people love Pokémon games regardless of their quality
@@alariaaurora8456we don’t need anymore over complicated shit. You don’t like this game? Ok go play your over complicated shit.
@@alariaaurora8456also I order the deluxe edition for ff7 rebirth and GBFR. The combat in rebirth put me to sleep. 😴
@@alariaaurora8456 I have been feeling the exact same way sadly, and I was initially very excited for this year of JRPGs but am learning (aside from Unicorn Overlord and somewhat Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth), I am falling out of love with the genre.
Looks like a copy of Genshin Impact which I just recently started to play. I like the character designs in GI more and it's free, so yeah, passing this one.
Ok ✌️
Try buying some jpg games so you can wake up to Neo The World Ends With You.😊
LMAO! Imagine not playing an actual RPG game that has a full completely story without the microtransactions and extremely low rate gacha systems because you think they are similar.
Genshin is barely a game. It's a vehicle to spend money and if you don't spend money, you legit have a MUCH less enjoyable experience. But most GI players are pretty unhinged so you're pretty much in line with GI players.
@@snazzydrew If Genshin becomes annoying or not enjoyable, I'll just put it down. Right now it seems fine. No need to throw insults.
@@akuskus your too far gone. or just don't have a job. either one. lol
