  • Most people presume that a hardware store is in the business of selling tools and that they carry good tools. When it comes to axe handles this is not true. The store will carry whatever is sent to them and I believe at least 30 to 50% of them are junk. Here are some things to look for when buying a replacement handle for you Axe.

Amazing !!! That’s exactly what I was looking for! Sorry you had to pay the 20$ for a garbage handle but I’m glad you did. The explanation was thorough and definitely answered my question! Great video as always toolscouter.

Great stuff brother!!! Very helpful. Thank you
    Couple questions for you
    1) do you sell handles? I am looking for a handful of the best handles I can get my hands on.
    2) do you have some recommendations of where to buy some good quality handles?
    Thanks again
    Ty from Montana

Welcome Ty from Montana. So glad to have you stop by the shop. As to your questions:
      1. No I do not make to sell. Right now I only make for the projects that I am doing but I do have some ideas for you.
      2. www.househandle.com/ this is a company that sources a local farm store here in town. You can buy on line, the only thing is I am able to look them over before I buy. If you purchase on line it may be hit or miss.
      3. Killenger offers handles online: www.google.com/search?q=killanger+handles&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
Hope this helps and come by again soon. Have a great day.

I always take unacceptable junk back or they'll think it's okay to keep selling unacceptable junk.

That’s definitely a good policy and if more of us did that it would be helpful. There are just too many who don’t know any better and keep it, that hurts the rest of us. Thanks for watching.

Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for sharing! Yeah, I've been absolutely disgusted with the handles I see at box stores! Whenever I look them over, one word comes to mind: SERIOUSLY? Gone, is PRIDE in workmanship & quality......sad!

    • @toolscouter
      @toolscouter  Рік тому

That is so true. You really have to shop around to find something decent. Problem is that the average person doesn’t demand a high standard of quality and so they get away with selling junk. Thanks for watching.

I have had a few bad handles, a friend of mine was seriously injured because of a bad axe handle when it broke

It is so very important to keep your axe in good working order. Too often people use axes as grub tools, and for only a short time. Consequently, they simply jam some nails or screws or whatever they have to tighten the head just to get them through the moment. The next person comes along and picks it up and things go badly. Hope your friend recuperated well. Thanks for sharing and making a good point.

@@toolscouter yes he did, I told him not to over sharpen the axe, they aren't to be knife sharp and then his axe was hung wrong on top of it. Yikes.

Looks like a handle you start swinging when someone comes to borrow. Then quickly burn the evidence!

😃 that’s a little dark. The only reason I would ever buy that handle is for demonstration purposes on the video. It really is junk. Thanks for watching.
