    I'm the guy behind the camera (Joen), and I am currently on a strict keto diet. You have no idea how hard it is NOT to eat these clams with original bolo do caco dipped in the sauce. Oh My God!!!! Life can be soo hard! 😂

    My mom is half Norwegian so is my dad but my mother is Italian and Spanish and I’m not sure what else but and she never made clams that way.. she made a lot of seafood but I think I would’ve eaten the clams if she made them that way. Looks good and I can almost smell it.

      Yes that delicious too. But there’s so much butter on the bread that goes in so it didn’t matter for me 😅

    Amalie, you are a natural! Great vídeo and that amêijoas à Bulhão Pato looks delicious. Loved the lemon zest over the clams: it's a great idea! (I loved in chocolate mousse, for example)

      @@alvafaleiro Also butter in many cases. Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato generally have a bit of butter. (and the olive oil of course).

      I like adding butter in seafood too but never seen it in a Portuguese recipe. And the bread that goes on the plate is filled with butter from the frying 🤤

    Beautiful! The clams look amazing. You could have added a little bit of butter to the sauce. Not yet sure about the lemon zest, but I'll try it!

      Yes and I totally would have if it was a French recipe. But I actually like it with oil. I’ll try it next time.
      I add lime zest to almost everything 😅 it’s an addiction 🤣

    How do u get the sand out ? Leave them in salt water ?

      Yes leave them in salt water with ice cubes for at least an hour and the rinse and turn them well in a trainer.

      It depends a bit. Mine were open because they had been sitting in water for over two hours. But if you get them open from the market I would use them.

    I love Ameijas à bulhão pato! I do it with a chilli added, and alwasy use olive oil and a bit of butter for a stronger creamy sauce.

    Next time you come to the mainland, come in December/January to trás-os-montes and make a video on how to make alheira, and I don't mean cooking alheira, but making it.

      It’s called a bolo so caco. It’s from Madeira and Porto santo :)

    Huge fan of clams!! It would have been even more amazing if you stressed that clams cannot be overcooked!!! It may be common sense for many, but those who don’t know they’re going to have a terrible experience 😭

    My brothers would catch fish and drip them over our heads when we had a slumber party. My mother will go fishing and bring home beautiful fish went with her a few times. my mother loved to just let the crabs walk around in the kitchen before she boiled them. Used to scare me because they reminded me of spiders. Ha ha

      @@howsitcooking2478 There are very many more stories like them putting rattlesnake tails into envelopes and addressing it to me so I would get excited when I would get a letter. Many many stories but I wouldn’t ever give up having three brothers but I had no sisters. Ah the stories! I think you’re doing great on your cooking show which I’m not surprised and I wish you all the best my dear!

    Try to add beer (let the alcohol evaporate) and onions on slicees before cooking the clams. The sauce is much more yummy and that bread will not resist

      Yeah.. those are unfortunately something you usually end up getting here. Mine where farmed which isn’t ideal. But they were from Portugal at least😅

      Well guess I speak American then. I also pronounce the “h” in herbs which isn’t so common in British English. But fun fact in my language danish we also call it coriander 😊

      Definitely coriander, which in Portuguese is Coentros.
      You would probably have more people wondering what cilantro is. 🤔 Probably more used in Mexico, Spain, Americas.
