I've had this amp for 20 years now. Already retubed 3 times. I use it with an attenuator (Silencer from Tube Amp Doctor). I also use others (Marchall, Vox, another Fender Twin Amp '57 reissue), but it remains my favorite. Never broken down. I don't understand why Fender doesn't make it anymore. I'll never sell it.
I picked up a 90s version of this amp recently. Had to get it re-capped due to a wicked hum that would not go away. I think it is a great stage amp. You can cut the overall power with the switch but Im not sure why you would. I has a master volume on it so use that to control your overall volume. As far as the "gain" goes, it is great. Folks say it "sucks" because they prefer more Marshall sounding amps when they start talking gain. I get that but my gosh this amp sounds good. I think the left channel does the '65 Blackface thing very well and the "gain" side does a really good take off of a Mesa Mark IV. Very versatile indeed. Also the clean tones that people coo about with Fenders is there as well. It makes a fabulous pedal platform as well. No, its not a modern high gain amp for sure. Nothing Soldano about it but a TS-9 in front of a the gain knob on the amp can bring is singing, high flying solo tones. Rhythm lines sound full and chunky without over gained muddy mess
In the end....I have to take my 64 twin reverb over this amp. I have a 90's twin and it's just not as "warm" to me....BUT, this is the amp to have in the studio. Its for tracking for me. Now if my 64 twin were to break.....welll then!
Cool video. I just bought one of these from a pawn shop today. Got a good deal. I am glad that explained the issue with the tremolo and the power setting...as I was a little concerned. But it makes sense. I couldn't believe how good the thing sounded when I turned it on.
Hey, well done. That was a great review. I really like the way you went right through the whole amp. I have had my eye on one of these and i am now getting it for sure. Good playing too. Thanks again from Toronto Canada!!!
I remember my friend using this amplifier, it seemed to specialize in the dirty channel. it was a killer Fuller sound sound better than a marshall. I was so impressed That I never forgot it, but I remember it was heavy as fuck to carry.
@Sgalaga - Haven't sold it yet (though I haven't tried particularly hard). I am downsizing due to lack of flat space and never needing to go beyond about 2 on this amp. It's a great amp for people who need a larger setup but not ideal for constant transport or small 1 bedroom flats.
You missed out on the a modern day goodie, with these newer Fenders the effects loop could could be joined for a very nice boost effect by simply employing the footswitch after the joining of the send and return use it for a lead boost and possibly on the 25 watt mode guessing it would also boost the Tremolo and Reverb effects!!??
I have the 90s... It has been used for many years live at high volume. I really miss the high frequencies, I can't get the typical fender´s clean. Obviously it needs maintenance. Any mod suggestions or simply its stock sound should be crystal clear enough for something funk, country, surf...?
Holly shit I was shaking when you turned it to 6!!! I´ve this same amp and it´s´loud as hell. Incredible amp although the drive channel sucks. Nice review man!
Hmmm...... Seems to be the average Fender overall. I think it's probably versatile, loud, and gets the sweet Fender tones one would expect it to get. What I'm wondering is.... for the singer of our band, would he actually need 100 watts? Hell, I'm only going 40 or 60. I think he'd be better off with a Bassbreaker. One channel and he could add a stomp if needed. Yup. That's what I think. Thanks for the vid!
IPushHard Virtually no one needs 100 watts. I use a kemper now (which has a 600w class d amp) but have my vocal and guitar sound coming through a yamaha monitor. Nowadays, you get lower wattage amps with better features and designs cheaper. I've not played through another amp with quite as perfect cleans as that twin but in other ways, the are a lot of amps I prefer.
Nope, no one needs 100 watts but as he mentioned in the video you can play this amp on 25 watts, still loud as hell but way more manageable. I own this amp and the only problem I can think of is its weight - it is ridiculously HEAVY. As far as sounds it's incredible, clean, (yes) dirty and everything in between.
I have a 2004-ish one of these and the 100 watts is just too damn loud (and the amp is too damn big) for home use. (I don't gig). The 1/4 power switch (25 watts) works in reducing power, however the tremelo circuit loses a bit of depth and the reverb does sound as good on 1/4 power. I'm thinking of selling it and getting a deluxe reverb. The power output would be about the same (25 watts versus 22 watts) but the reverb and tremolo would sound way much better running on the designed voltage. Thoughts?
Only just saw this - makes sense to me. You're absolutely right about the tremolo issue with this model and if you use the tremolo much, that's a problem. I rarely have use for tremolo and have a separate pedal for it if I do need it anyway. But your plan seems good to me.
I want to know the same thing! The pro tube has an added tremolo effect among other things. Also, the speakers are a different model. But I want to know if the overall tone is much different especially the clean tones.

I've never found a clean channel I like as much since I sold mine. I'm in the kemper world now but that will always be a great amp.

Hi, my amp is making the same humming noise. How did you manage to fix it? (I'm not very techy at all lol)
You cut the power so you can have 100w tone at lower volume.
You might need to check tube balance, adjusting to minimize the hum, cheers

Do you get a lot of humming noise? Especially with the reverb tank on?
I'm missing my old amp a bit now. Although I'm conveniently forgetting the weight of pulling it around.
Amplitube is pretty good imo

Yea, in my poor days, my buddy had an SG straight into a Twin and Ill never forget that....
Nice amp and a good review. Thank you!
why did 1hr later when my tween amp on the sound become droupdown and the light of the switch show become dimmer
KING AMP!!!

Nelson DeJesus Yup - good point.

Breathe through your nose, friend.
the drive channel is fine when used with a nice overdrive. If your looking for metal sound, this amp is not for you.
cannot stay long hours about 3hrs on when lights dean the sound become small sound. Y?

I think we agree 100% : )

What‘s the difference between this amp and the 94-99 Fender Twin Amp (aka evil twin)?

awesome that you know focus
Thanks! Glad it's helped you/
Good spot. I do know how it goes really but I wasn't going to try and remember it and then stuff it up in front of everyone :)
Evil twin vs. Pro tube twin?

12:13 is that Hocus pocus - Focus?
Youre really tired huh?
danilo alves just British
why did u sell that amp? thanks
Not original speakers
Well, I bought it new and that's what was in there...
@@framebadger You know what. I am probably wrong. The specs may have changed. I might have a later generation. My apologies
