And like you, I used to hate the sound of the amp but now years later I’m really appreciating it. I have a silverface and it’s even cleaner sounding than the blackface (if you can imagine that)
Hi Budda great vid demo as usual. I bought a Fender Twin !995 re issue 2 years ago I just love it, great pure clean tone, lovely reverb, I play a lot of Reggae, Blues, Rock and Punk etc genres and I find the amp great for all those. I also really like the amps over drive which is very raunchy and crunchy. I also have a custom made 18 watt tube amp with a lovely reverb and crunchy overdrive. that was custom made by a guy who is a electronics whizz genius in the trade for 40+ years. I have a '65 Twin Reverb. I have about 15 electric guitars and prefer my Mesa Road King with all of them except the Super 400. All that said, I like the Road King's clean channels best not on the Mesa clean and thick settings, but rather their Fender-copy "tweed" or Marshall-copy "brit" settings.

Hey Budda. I really like your videos. I just wanted to let you know that this one was very helpful to me. A fender twin reverb (silver face.1975) came up for sale at a local shop and I watched this video numerous times to make sure it was the right amp for me. I was able to buy it and I love it. I know it might sound different than your blackface model, but they all sound great. mine even has the original Oxford speakers. Anyways, have a great day Budda.
Thanks for the video man. Very informative. I have a Marshall 250 but it doesn't have that warm tube sound. I think I might have to move to a Fender tube amp. I play a Stratocaster.

This one of the best amps you will buy other than the 4 speaker model, its the Holy grail of tone, dump the Messy Boogie, the Fender is far superior & more versatile.
best amp ever made (I have a pre cbs blackface twin).....I have similar pedal style and play it with all types of guitars and it sounds ridiculous. but interesting thing is I have 25watt greenbacks in it 🤘🏾 so good sounding..
Love your channel budda. You are a chill machine ! I found the cheap art tube mp with +20 db switch on was great to compress, drive and reduce spikey amps especially at low volume. Not tried it on twin but I suspect it would work even better due to its clarify. the mp also has power sag so can mimic a pushed tube rectified amp even at very low volumes on a solid state rec. amp. I've read so many people have trouble with twins due to high volume sweet spot and people often shy away from cheap gear but I've found many can do something others cant.
Your spaghetti western was just bang on mate. You play very very well mate, and that combined with the twin sounded absolutely awesome. 🤙 Fuck it! imma head out of bed, Max out the reverb and play spaghetti western all night om my deluxe reverb. Cheers mate!
Haha this is my set-up!! Except I have a Prince of Tone and Fender Vibrosonic (Twin with a 15 inch. Isn't the Boss OD-3 a beauty! Great open sounding drive pedal that's also cheap. you may also enjoy the Lovepedal Luis which basically gives you a tweed tone should you need it. Great videos thanks. PS easy mod on the twin is pull out the V1 12AX7, warms up the tone in vibrato channel.
a bad rap they get is not being able to play at home due to volume. That is BS. Ive owned a Twin for years and often turn it on when family is asleep. Volume around 2 which is plenty on a twin and you can practice at night. Of course we all know the Twin is capable of blowing out the windows if turned up......but it can be played subtle as well.
The play ok at a lot of different volumes. The thing with tube amps is that they want to play above a certain volume in order for the amp to be cooking. And I don't mean it to overdrive, but to be i a place that it reacts to your playing. Since Twin Reverbs play really loud, if you want it to compress, you need to play loud, loud loud!!! But they sound great at quiet volumes. Specially for very clean tones. it sounds great at almost any volume.
Budda Guedes yep i play clean stuff only so thats why it works for me just fine turned down low. I re read my comment and didnt mean to come across sounding harsh or critical. If you play crystal clear clean then it works just fine at home lol. Thats what they were designed and made to do...stay clean...so I sometimes assume thats why anyone would own one. Add a dyna comp compressor and your country tone will come flowing out like honey :) also helps the surf, spagetti western sound by adding long sustain at low volume. I dunno if you have tried but you can safely pull 2 power tubes and unhook 1 speaker to cut the power in half. Its safe to do but must unhook a speaker to keep bias correct. Ive done it several times and it will overdrive around 4-5....but is still pretty loud even running half power.
JohnnyRebKy Why doesn’t anyone know or talk about Fender Princeton Reverbs (sounds just like this). I got the special ed. with 12” speaker and at15 watts its perfect at home. Sound like a deluxe reverb (blackface sound) without the ear damage. Its about as loud as a blues jr but with tone and bigness (no mods needed) that the Bjr can’t touch even with mods/speaker changes. Just can’t say enough about it. Its pricey $1000 but its worth it and way better than a hot rod deluxe. I don’t get why more stores don’t have them out as they are perfect for many peoples needs, but they have these 40-100 watt beasts that are wasted on most peoples home setup.
Man these videos are so good and informative. They have me torn between the Twin Reverb and AC30. I feel like you can’t go wrong with either - but if forced to pick which would you go with?
Just a question: which could be, in your personal opinion, the best alternative to Jensen C12K speakers? Thanks in advance for your kind feedback 🙏 Budda
My Fenders (65Twin & 67 Dual Showman) have the best low end of any amps I have owned. I love my 78 Marshall 50 but the tone know are pretty ineffecutal compared to the Fenders
hey doc, thanks for the amazing detailed demo as always. I have a 35 sq m room? I want to record, clean, John Mayer tones, and if I get drive, i will use the ts10. Do you think its advisable to use this amp, or do you have other suggestions?
Budda, peace my brotha! Have you tried the Fulltone Fulldrive.. either 2 or 3? If yes, what is your opinion? I know you really dig the Analogman but those are pricey like the new Strymon Riverside.
btm240 i've never tried the Fulldrive, but it should sound really good as anything from fulltone. The King Of Tone is a very different beast! It's not a tube screamer based overdrive. It's fuller sounding and less midrangy. The Boss OD3 of the Blues Driver Waza Craft are great options for that fulltone/ tubescreamer sound.
Boss blues driver bd-2? Boss FDR1? Qual os melhores para tu? abraço.
Hey Guedes, thank you so much for your videos, it is really supportive for the whole guitarist community. One question, how is the Princeton 65 reverb compared to the twin reverb? Would love to see a video from you with these two amps. Thanks mate!
Loving your channel Budda. It's relaxing, great playing & people can learn from you. Your twin sounds amazing with its old tube break up . What a sound ! Are those C12K's or jbl120 ? cheers :)
Thanks man. Your passion shines through in these video's, it is inspiring. I would love to know if the twins preamp tubes can be driven into a bit of overdrive with a clean mid boost like a boss GE7 or is it just more clean volume ? Ever tried it Budda ? peace
Andrés Martínez they're very different beasts!! Although they both have that fender sound, the Blues junior is more compressed, overdrives a lot and the Reverb doesn't get near to the Twin. Twin Reverb is a super loud amp.
Thanks man! Yeah I really like the clean from the twin but I was wondering if it can distort on volume 3-4 with a drive pedal.but than again I might also go with the Princeton
It's a great amp everywhere but it's big, loud and really heavy. Só for home use I would usually go for a much less power amp. The tubes have a sweet spot for compression and tone. So with an 85 watt amp you need to use it on at least 4. And that's louder than I've played in a lot of gigs.
Hi Budda, great video. I'm searching for my next new amp. In my search, I found that I liked the new John Mayer PRS JMOD-100 amp tone. I don't know if you have stumbled upon it, but it sounds amazing. Since that amp is out of my budget, do you think that the Fender 65 Twin Reverb Reissue would be a good platform to achieve that tone? What other amp do you suggest? Thanks in advance.
thanks for the video :) just how hard is it to rebias the 65 reissue, do you think? get all the guts out and such, right, and then multimeter and so on. Just wondering how much of a hassle that is in this case. Thanks again!
just found your channel man, great stuff! That twin sounds awesome even without the pedals. I've had a blackface champ and a blackface deluxe, both sounded great. But I always struggled, as a blues guy, to dial in the deluxe's overdriven tones at stage volume. I thought the twin would be too clean, but hmm
Hey doc, can I ask what was the problem with your amp having no sound? Because that literally just happened to me at a live stream I did and everything was brand new! Fender twin, pro strat brand spanking new adding my ts9 and mxr comp and it played well for a few minutes then all of a sudden the sound faded out. My only fix was to plug in direct with a different cable. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks for the content! Aloha!😎🤙
@@BuddaGuedes Thank you Budda. I found that out on another UA-cam channel. I just got a 2013 Twin reissued this weekend and looking at your information. Very instructive.
Hey Budda, how about if you have a stereo pedal (let's say delay) and you put the two outputs of that pedal into the amp? Would it produce a stereo effect (of a sort) or the two channels are not separate from each other? Thanks for the review, but now I am confused :D Mesa Lonestar or this monster or my neighbors sanity (ah, who cares about the lat one! :D :D )
Peter Y you only have stereo when there’s different things happening on the left and right. With the twin reverb, although you have 2 speakers they are playing the same tone. You cannot separate it because the amp is mono.
My idea was moreover to have the following situation: Path 1: Guitar > Reverb Pedal > Splitter Box > Normal Input Path 2: Guitar > Reverb Pedal > Splitter Box > Other Effects? > Tremolo Input So it is as if you have 2 different guitars playing through the same amplifier (even tough it is only 1 guitar) Other than that I get it... :D :D I made myself a stereo rig and my neighbors are "loving me deeply and madly" (predominantly madly to be honest)! :D Thanks for the reply, man - you are awesome! Every time I mean to ask something you are there to answer. It is great to know that the guru actually reads the comments and gets involved... ;) ;)
ok for that path it would be kind of having a parallel signal. You will probably find a problem there, because the two channels on the Twin reverb are reverse polarity so, unless some of your pedals reverses the polarity you will be out of phase!!!
If you want a bedroom amp, I would suggest a Princeton Reverb or a Blues Junior. The twin can play at bedroom level, but it is as having a Jet Plain to take your kids to school. It's too big and too loud! Hope it helps
Hello, I found a good deal on a George Benson signature model Twin Reverb (almost 1/2 retail price, only one year old). Apart from the cosmetics and lighter weight, it's got Jensen Tornado speakers and 12AY7 preamp tube instead of 12AX7. Considering I'm NOT gonna use it for jazz but for rock in general, do you think it still would be a good deal? Heard some say the sound cod be muddier and darker...
Ol´ Dave I don’t think it will be muddy. It will be a lot cleaner than a normal twin reverb. And a twin reverb is as clean as it can be. So I’m a title worried that it might be too clean. But for the price it’s a great deal. You’ll be able to sell it any time, if you don’t like it , and still recover the investment.
They are very different from each other. You will get great tones with the twin reverb using pedals!!! It’s an incredible amp. The lonestar is a stand-alone amp because you can get great cleans great overdrive great reverb and you have a solo switch which allows for a real clean boost on all your tones. But it doesn’t sounds like a fender!!!

Boas. Nos é fácil mas talvez o SP COMPRESSOR da Xotic. Mas nem sempre funciona. Por essa razão é que os amps a válvulas são maravilhosos.
Obrigado!!
there's some superb playing in this one, all that far west shit man was far out
Thanks for your comment
Hey Guedes, thank you so much for your videos, it is really supportive for the whole guitarist community.
One question, how is the Princeton 65 reverb compared to the twin reverb? Would love to see a video from you with these two amps. Thanks mate!
Hi there. I think the Princeton is a small version of the deluxe rever or the super Reverb. The twin is a super load clean amp.
TURN IT UP! This is nice but between 4 and 7 it will make you cry. For multiple reasons. The tenitis is worth it.
That’s incredibly loud
Dr. Budda, do you like Deluxe Reverb?
Yes I do. It’s a great amp and it’s on my wish list for a long time now!!!
Loving your channel Budda. It's relaxing, great playing & people can learn from you. Your twin sounds amazing with its old tube break up . What a sound ! Are those C12K's or jbl120 ? cheers :)
hermit crab Thanks a lot!! As for the speakers I don't really know because it only has fender written on it. But it's not JBL's
Thanks man. Your passion shines through in these video's, it is inspiring. I would love to know if the twins preamp tubes can be driven into a bit of overdrive with a clean mid boost like a boss GE7 or is it just more clean volume ? Ever tried it Budda ? peace
Thanks man, Im going insane trying to find a good tone for 60 let paul custom and my 64 twin. any ideas?
Use a light overdrive and not a lot of bass on the amp
Budda, how would you compare your twin with a blues Jr? I've got the tweed one because I wanted some fender sounding amp
Andrés Martínez they're very different beasts!! Although they both have that fender sound, the Blues junior is more compressed, overdrives a lot and the Reverb doesn't get near to the Twin. Twin Reverb is a super loud amp.
Budda Guedes Thank you Budda, keep rocking!
Andrés Martínez 8
Great video man!!
Do you recommend for home use? I love the clean sound at guitar center but never tried it with an overdrive. The volume was at 4
C.Andrade it's not a good home amp, but it will work. For home use I would go for a 5 to 15 watt amp and 1 speaker.
C.Andrade It's fine as a home amp and it's a great clean platform for OD and distortion pedals.
And that's louder than I've played in a lot of gigs.
just sold mine.....it was just too loud.....
The best amp ever - but I didn't use it that much due to the lack of attenuator.
I had this problem. Solution? Bought an attenuator...
@@adam-yk6yd does it sound equally great? thank's for the answer:)
@@davidvarela8739 Yes. but the weight has ultimately proved too much and I have got a Vibrolux instead
@@adam-yk6yd and the also the Vibrolux needs to be atenuatted for home use?
@@davidvarela8739 not really. Still sounds great at home volumes but it's at its best halfway up. I love it
I never got past DS-1 and TS9.
What do you mean?
@@BuddaGuedes Never understood any overdrive pedal other then those two. DS-1 from time to time. Just use those two.
Ok. I’ve never got the DS1
thanx doc
You’re welcome
good video. what speakers are in your twin reverb?
Kevin Griffin I'm not sure because they only say fender!!
most blackface twin reverbs use fender branded jensen c12k speakers.
Awesome video about one of the best amps in history. Great tone and playing. By the way, what song do you play at 13:37?
Stanislav Kochetkov hi there. Thanks a lot. It's not any specific song, I was just jamming along.
It's a very different beast, because of compression and headroom. I would go more towards the bandmaster or the Twin Pro
Thanks, Budda. Love your show, and needless to say that it's one of the best guitar shows out there.
thanks a lot
thanks for the video :) just how hard is it to rebias the 65 reissue, do you think? get all the guts out and such, right, and then multimeter and so on. Just wondering how much of a hassle that is in this case. Thanks again!
I’m sorry but I’m not that skilled.
Can this beauty do surf rock or western type guitar tones? Thanks
ScarredPredator this is the amp that did it all!!!
just found your channel man, great stuff! That twin sounds awesome even without the pedals. I've had a blackface champ and a blackface deluxe, both sounded great. But I always struggled, as a blues guy, to dial in the deluxe's overdriven tones at stage volume. I thought the twin would be too clean, but hmm
TheBigbrizzle but it is clean. Mine just as the tubes really worn. Still it's very loud!
how can you get overdrive with deluxe? it's not so easy..
You have to turn it up!!!
@@BuddaGuedes almost impossible.. better another amp genre
Not impossible but it’s loud
Hey doc, can I ask what was the problem with your amp having no sound? Because that literally just happened to me at a live stream I did and everything was brand new! Fender twin, pro strat brand spanking new adding my ts9 and mxr comp and it played well for a few minutes then all of a sudden the sound faded out. My only fix was to plug in direct with a different cable. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks for the content! Aloha!😎🤙
My problem was an ac adapter that burned!!!
Budda Guedes is that the only time you’ve had that issue? Thanks for the response!
Yes it is. I left the ac adapter plugged in and there must have been a short .
I never left the adapters plugged in no more
Budda Guedes thank you for the tips I really appreciate it! Be safe🙏💯😎🤙
You’re welcome
Very informative video. Do you know what year your amp was made in?
Jeff V. I'm not sure but it's from the early 90's.
What speakers are in your Twin?
The stock ones! I believe they’re eminence
I use a big muff on it and the amp sounds great it’s just really not my style, if you like classic rock it’s great 👍
That’s it. Everyone has their own taste. That’s music’s magic.
Thanks for your comment
I love a big muff, the amps too.
Thanks
Amazing vid man! How does this AMP reacts to a TS808? Guess you have ever tried lol
Miguel Ballardin they where made for eachother. Fender an Tube Screamer
Tennessee Whisky!!!! 5 years ago!!
Eh! Eh! It’s actually “I’d rather go blind “ by Etta James
@@BuddaGuedes Thank you Budda. I found that out on another UA-cam channel. I just got a 2013 Twin reissued this weekend and looking at your information. Very instructive.
Great! Thanks for sharing
Hey Budda,
how about if you have a stereo pedal (let's say delay) and you put the two outputs of that pedal into the amp? Would it produce a stereo effect (of a sort) or the two channels are not separate from each other?
Thanks for the review, but now I am confused :D Mesa Lonestar or this monster or my neighbors sanity (ah, who cares about the lat one! :D :D )
Peter Y you only have stereo when there’s different things happening on the left and right. With the twin reverb, although you have 2 speakers they are playing the same tone. You cannot separate it because the amp is mono.
My idea was moreover to have the following situation:
Path 1: Guitar > Reverb Pedal > Splitter Box > Normal Input
Path 2: Guitar > Reverb Pedal > Splitter Box > Other Effects? > Tremolo Input
So it is as if you have 2 different guitars playing through the same amplifier (even tough it is only 1 guitar)
Other than that I get it... :D :D I made myself a stereo rig and my neighbors are "loving me deeply and madly" (predominantly madly to be honest)! :D
Thanks for the reply, man - you are awesome! Every time I mean to ask something you are there to answer. It is great to know that the guru actually reads the comments and gets involved... ;) ;)
ok for that path it would be kind of having a parallel signal. You will probably find a problem there, because the two channels on the Twin reverb are reverse polarity so, unless some of your pedals reverses the polarity you will be out of phase!!!
why is your light out ,not light working
It happens a lot on this amp
That sounds really good. How loud was that? I'd love to have a Twin Reverb but the volume is more than I need.
Ramiiam the twin reverb plays great at almost any volume.
It's more about clean headroom than volume.
Hey, Budda. What up, bro! I love your channel! By the way, I've heard about a blues band here in Brazil, by the name of Budda. Is that your band?
Tinoco Fernandes no. I'm from Portugal
How does the Mesa lonestar compare to this?
I prefere the lonestar. This is too clean
@@BuddaGuedes The lonestar sounds like it might be a bit warmer and have a little more mids. Would that be true?
It has a lot more stuff. It can sound like a twin but it can compress more or even drive
I love mine
It’s a killer amp
Hi Budda, will this amp be too loud to play in the bedroom?
If you want a bedroom amp, I would suggest a Princeton Reverb or a Blues Junior. The twin can play at bedroom level, but it is as having a Jet Plain to take your kids to school. It's too big and too loud! Hope it helps
Budda Guedes thanks Budda, will definitely consider the princeton..
@@BuddaGuedes OK, thank you for your advice and patiemce with kinda newbies :-)
I’m glad it helped.
Still mad at you for getting me to by a line 6 Variax, lol!
Eh eh! Why?
what, no leather codpiece for your stage wardrobe!!!!!!
btm240 ah ah
ever tried a fender blackface pro?
Brian Cullen no I haven't
