I was in grade school when this game came out. the intro scene in the parking garage impacted me. to this day I get a little excited walking through parking garages at night listening to my shoes click on the pavement while I look around for a cool car.
10:49 "I heard you were in town, got some work and more room for second raiders. The Casino, you want to come along?" "My Fee." "Ten percent." "Twenty." "Man, guys gotta make a living, Fifteen." "Twenty, you know my price." "Okay, but we do it my way." Tanners a hard negotiator.
Hey, there's a curious thing about this game and its cutscenes. They NEVER, really never show the characters faces explicitly. Must be the budget or lack of skills to do acceptable pre rendered faces.
I remember Reflections actually explained that in an issue of Official PlayStation Magazine. It was a small team that made the game, essentially the same guys who made Destruction Derby 1 & 2, and no one had any experience in lip syncing. Driver proved to be a great financial success so for the sequel they had the money to hire more people to work on the game. Tanner was also supposed to change cars and walk in the first game, but again, no one on the current team had any experience on that front. These are the things I remember, instead of pin-numbers and exam materials.
@@Gyrbae Oh! The 90's playstation magazines, look, I'm Mexican, and I didn't understand the games or the magazines, but I liked so much that the videogame world became my inspiration to learn English =D
That was one thing that I always disliked about this game. I just got done watching all of the cutscenes a few days ago ( I play Driver 2 / PL Alot ) and was wondering why the cutscenes were so dark. It would be nice if the Driver series were to get remastered for higher quality graphics. I love & miss the series so much
I know. His name was Mojo, and I always liked him.I don't know why. He just seems... cool, lol. Him and the guy at 4:15, who we see in a lot of the game, but I always remembered him in the next-to-last cut scene of the game, telling Tanner he needs to get "in that driver's seat and do this thing" or something like that, about the last level where they're gonna kill the president (or try to).
The voice actor for tanner in driver 1 was absouloulty terrible it just sounded like a 1 year intern with a tape recorder in the bathroom yet driver 2 driver3 San Francisco had very memeroble tanners

I knew I wasn't the only one that got these mini "nostalgia" senses from noises that showed up in videogames lol
Lol bro I know that feeling I even used to do that in real life listen to my shoes when I walk hehe.
And since this intro I love the sound of V8 Mustangs.
Ahhh, the classic raindrop, elevator, and footsteps.
A unique game in a unique time. Always in my heart
This game was made on a low budget and small team, and was a great success.
I remember all the words being said, but I've never fully understood them before.
That's childhood for you

Maybe it is to make the player feel that the main character is themselves and add more immersion.

Time Atk it definitely seems that way, although I thought it suited the game's film noir style very well.

You know the movie drive was low key based on this beautiful game...
U must look "the driver" (1978) from director walter hill (the warriors). This is the real inspiration for this game.
@@ecup1384 also: Bullitt (1968) The French Connection (1971) and The Seven Ups (1973) to name a few others.
I drive
@IIKNEZII I don't know. Mine is a purchased copy.... from like 20 years ago, or whenever it first came out... lol. Twas a Christmas gift.
