That’s tough if the gloss fused. You could try to gently reify and hope that that separates it with some light heat. But more often than not you’re gonna pull ink off of one of the two faces when you separate.
Awesome video as always...I just received a hangar9 iron (HAN101) that I won on ebay, and the description was "This unit is not complete as it is missing its manual. This unit has NOT been bench tested. This unit appears to still be sealed in its bag. Overall this unit is in good looking unused condition. This unit is marked NW to signify that it does NOT come with a manufacturer's warranty. ". It looked unused when I opened the package, however when I plugged it in and turned up the temperature, some smoke started to come out of the unit just under the temperature dial. I also noticed that the dial itself gets very hot to the touch while the unit is on. Just wondering if the smoke is normal on a new unit (maybe just some of the oils from manufacturing burning off?), and should the dial be getting so hot, that you can realistically only quickly change the temp, but any prolonged contact with the dial would be painful. Let me know your thought, and keep the great content coming!!!
The offgassing from a new one is quite alarming, but is normal. It usually only lasts 2 to 3 minutes and you probably want to put it somewhere well ventilated in the meantime. My dial does get hot but not too hot.
@@TopComicsPressing I appreciate you getting back to me. Is the dial still "hot but not too hot" even at the highest temperature setting on the device? I just tried it again, and at the highest temperature on mine the dial is so hot that it can't really even be touched...i had to just unplug it to cool it off. I realize that temp would never be used on a comic book, but in the best interest of getting what i paid for, I'm probably going to end up returning to the seller as defective.

I have a certain brand of variants I like to get but I have noticed they butterfly more than other modern books. The only thing I have been able to do to fight it is leave the book in the press for 8-12 hours instead of moving it to a cooling/ pressing board.
@@murrayc9615 can also be from heating cooling too fast. Do you use plates in the press - if not so that. Next is that the press might be miss aligned (not parallel when closed) - check that

So for the whole book water damaged, you mostly focus on moistening and ironing the covers and not necessarily the interior pages?

This would be a massive bump. Whole book moisture damage is gonna be a low grade book. It’s now 8.5/9.0
What would you do if the pages are stuck together from having dried that way? I’m trying repair a video game manual.

I never go above 3 on mine. It’s super super hot at the high setting. Most of the time I use it between 1-2. I would just avoid the high temps

I leave all my books in the press for 10-12 h. Once it’s closed I don’t open till it’s been cool for several hours. So there is your answer
I've been having the same butterfly problem, but I leave my books in 12-24 hours. Any other suggestions?
