I wasn't very good at carrier gameplay. But I deeply enjoyed the old carrier gameplay. I greatly enjoyed carefully managing my flights. I deeply enjoyed having to make a choice between escorting my bombers or escorting my friendly ships. I deeply enjoyed the calculated risk I took in positioning myself close enough to be able to rotate my attack wings in and out effectively. It was difficult to master, and provided carrier players with a mode of gameplay that felt both completely different, and yet very fitting. I stopped playing for some time, but I can honestly say that I will not be coming back until they restore the RTS mode of Carrier gameplay.
CV got blamed too much, if they dont escort friendly ship, they got the blame. if their attack plane got destroyed because no one escort them, they got the blame. if CV user did good job, they never get praised because "its how they suppose to do". with this new CV gameplay, CV player can be selfish and enjoy the game without getting blamed much

Every time i was blamed, i simply thought that the stupid teammates couldn't understand the complexity of the management of running efficilently a cv and ignored them. I admit that I was rather a noob, but i loved playing my Ryujo and Taiho. I was a 50k from Hakuryu before 0.8.0... no one can give me back the time i spent in 2 years to reach T10, nor give me Free xp to compensate my broken dream.
Yep.. done with CV after 3 matches... Wow. I kinda wish BBs could only turn one turret at a time, and be unable to control the ship while they do it.... That's about equivalent.
I hate the new changes. Please do a survey in game to show the real impact of like or not like. This change along with the new rank arm race monster makes a huuuge impact on this former beutiful game

i dunno, it seems like an ok-ish mechanic, though it'd be great if they just allowed for varied options of carrier gameplay, maybe take the approach of battlestations pacific, where you have a hybrid of RTS and manual controll

Under the new system they are less OP, but it is frustrating for the surface ship that he can't fight back and taking down airplanes has very little meaning for the carrier. Best of all would be to remove carriers all together.
yes, you are right. It is completely unrealistic to send down only 2 planes. the rest takes fire and dies. It's completely impossible to make meaningful damage with a carrier. Edit: haven't played this dumpster fire since
I actually prefer this new update over the old one they should do a hybrid in my opinion that way both sides will be satisfied where you control the aircraft like they show it in the video but you can also RTS in the middle or something like that but I prefer the new way of playing aircraft carriers to some it's boring and to some it's really fun and exciting but everyone has the own opinions
One of the main reason why CV was so important at ww2 was they're the key to achieve air superiority in the open waters. They're not just for attacking role, they protecting the fleet, why you dev remove it?
And irl carriers strike multiple targets at the same time (back ww2 especially because there was a war going on) but know you attack one target at one time
Before this patch there were players who loved the top down RTS character of CV gameplay. This patch not only ruined their game but everyone else's as well. The term 'broken" doesn't even begin to describe what random gameplay is now. I will have nothing to do with any modes other than co op, scenarios, or ranked until balance is restored, or I'll just retire completely. I respect the effort of the design team but frankly believe it's already time to cut the losses before they deal the game a fatal blow. Admit the mistakes, pull the patch, revert to 0.7.12, & resume testing or give up. The loss of 3.5 yrs of goodwill simply won't be worth the costs of standing by this mess for a month.
Combine this with the old system. Want to manually control one squadron during an attack? You can, and as an incentive the attacks are more accurate. Want to not do that and coordinate the attacks of multiple squadrons all at once (you know, like an AIRCRAFT CARRIER), you can, but each squadron's attacks are less accurate. Want every plane in a squadron to attack? Want to control one squadron in flight? You can, and as an incentive they take less AA damage when passing ships. Want to not do that and coordinate the flight paths of multiple squadrons (you know, like an AIRCRAFT CARRIER)? You can! Set them to do so. Want only half or a third of the squadron to do so? Set them to do so, and have the planes not attacking take significantly less AA damage since they can focus on maneuvering to avoid it. Want to send a fighter escort? YOU CAN! As it is, this system is trash and has taken away any reason for me to play aircraft carriers (and thus buy premium carriers). Remember how the US won the Battle of Midway by sending out one dive bomber squadron at a time and waiting for them to attack and return to the ships before sending out another? I don't, because that's not how they won. They sent multiple squadrons that hit the Japanese ships, and here's a novel concept, *at the same time.*
I’ve given the new update a go and honestly, the RTS system was so much better. I think all it really needed was for ships to have increased AA range so that it encourages players to sail together to cover each other. This update was a huge step backwards. The mechanics have become soo dumbed down its ridiculous why is player skill being punished? If the carriers were of equal skill they would tend to cancel each other out anyways because fighter squadrons made for a good deterrent. Now carriers are free to strike any ship they want. I thought the point of the rework was to make CVs less powerful. I’m afraid this rework has achieved the opposite.

With the addition of their own ships I think I may be skipping this game now too. Of course it is sad after all the preorders I have done with this game.
It doesn't overlap anymore. When planes fly into the mid range aa, the long range aa doesn't fire anymore. When planes fly into the close range aa, midrange and long range don't fire. Which, obviously, is complete, absolute bullshit.
Next, you're actually telling us NOT to maneuver when we're on our attack run with torpedo bombers, but during that time if we don't maneuver we're sitting ducks for AA.
I tried this many times, it makes no freaking difference wether you wiggle or stay still, the damage you take is linear and relative to the distance of the AA fire source.
I just came back after 2 years or so of only carrier. I hate how as Americans we get 2 torpedoes per attack run meaning we get a tiny area of affect and only 2 drops per strafing run. This means every strafing run we're bound to lose 2 or 3 planes sometimes more while directly flying over the ship we just attempted to bomb. Not to mention, being under constant AA fire after trying to circle around to bomb again. Great precision is required as you only get 2 torpedoes a run. I liked it better when you had the chance to make a wall of 6 torpedoes per strafing run

I just came back to the game since like 2017, super confused why the carrier system was dumbed down. Honestly, the fact that carriers were micro-intensive, yet could be dominating in the right hands, felt accurate to how they were in the war.
The CV rework means that you can only play CVs if you have the ability to twitch click. The one thing in the old CV play that I was good at was using my fighters to achieve air superiority, but fighters are now a consumable. Between having to dodge anti-aircraft fire and having to release bombs/torpedoes at the correct instant, I went from being a middling CV player who could send aircraft to the right places at nearly the right times to an AFK battleship that could spot enemies at a distance in co-op matches (while it was possible that the enemy CV player might be just as bad as me, I did not try to play my reworked CV in a random battle). I cannot twitch click well enough to play the reworked CVs. I play World of Warships, because you can even be terrible at twitch clicking and still play well enough to contribute to the team and have fun. The intent of the CV rework was to open CV play to a larger pool of players. While other players may experience different results, the CV rework has completely shut me out of playing CVs.
Except the thing is, carriers were never for the noobs. From the start WG had bragged that CVs were for the “strategic players.” Now it’s just a fucking arcade mode.
I tested them in the tst. It's now so boring to play cv. Now it's like start, fly, die and repeat! And that you have to send back your planes to control the carrier is just stupid. The RTS gsmeplay was much better. Give me my carriers back how i Love them to play in RTS!

I've returned the game after 2 years and have a shock! I can't control all squadrons simultaneously! While going to enemy ship, enemy aircrafts hunts me easily!
@@isaacthesharkwolf9038 In BS Pacific, you can launch multiple squadrons and let ai fly them while you direct, like the old CV gameplay, or take control yourself and switch between them, like the new gameplay. I would have prefered that over being stuck in one squadron at a time.

If the playstyle like the one in BS Pacific, it will be more intense for carriers in both team because you have to fight enemy fighters first to get air supremacy so you can do any aerial attack. That's more fun to play and more historical accurate at the same time. Helping your teammates winning air combat become more important than just being a sky cancer. To be honest, this game has a lot things need to learn from his ironiclly not quite realistic but somewhat fun spiritual predecessor.
I'm meh about this change, but please, WG, for the love of god, can you make targeting crosshairs for bombers show the actual position when they'll be when you initiate attack, instead of a FRIGGIN MILE AHEAD?! What's the bloody point?!
@@melkormedia7413 Yes, but it doesn't make a lick of sense when the planes themselves almost halt in place to a point where you attack a ship from behind, the ships are faster then your approach... with planes! They almost turn static. It would be much more helpful to have two markers then, one where the bombing run starts and one where it's on max focus (even if the latter is simplistic representation)
Tip for you,, the bom rectingle is vertical oval isn't it? use the uppper rectingle as your guidance, when the squadron start climbing the circle will move forward, if you not moving your squadron the cicle will tighten, when the squadron start diving, the rectingle will stop right in the bottom of your squadron, try to strike from front or back of enemy ship, that will do massive dmg,, and remember, don't hunt DD with your DB, that useless, and also remember that your squadron altitude also effect the impact time of your bomb
@Neoimperialist1 True, I've given up on DDs for now. Much better survivability chance in cruisers or battleships if you sail as a fleet. It's actually encouraging teamwork in Random Battle, not all the time, but much more than before.
I only wanted this cuz I thought the aircraft carrier launches Auto claims that they would go out and love your enemies for you instead of you take control of them but no there is no AI controlling them you have to do all the work that stinksit would be more convenient if the AI bombers went out fighting while you were busy attacking from the sea I think it would have been better if they had that feature
+Jared W a meta that clearly was half-baked and had little to no time to actually be tested properly. They only had small test groups look at it, likely the ones who were most likely to say "yea this is fine", and barely played CV enough. Meanwhile, CV mains on main branch are completely fine with the normal CV, then are forced to have to play this shit. This isn't a meta, it's a fucking nerf, renamed to keep people from throwing a shit-fit.

Hey WG, I have a good Idea, why not bring back the fighter as controllable squadron? just put them 3 or 4 aircraft per squadron, the way they attack is like strafing, but with limited ammo, once the ammo is depleted they'll return to the CV and only can be use one strike before taking off again.. I think that will have for the DD spotting and hunting issues

I havent played since. I and I contributed to their game once in a while. Too many people wanted to zip around in BBs zoomed in and got pissed off because they didnt pay attention and got sunk.
I see what you guys were going for, and i don't think this new game-play is necessarily bad, and is fairly fun but really was dramatic departure from some of the aspects of carriers that made them both challenging and enjoyable. Firstly, part of what made carriers' entertaining for me was the management aspect, having to keep track of a lot of moving parts to include the carrier itself, and i wish there was a way to toggle back to my carrier to adjust course or respond to threats without forcing my squadron back to the carrier. I think there is a healthy medium here and this new game play certainly made CVs more of a class of ship and less of a mini-game within the greater game (which was really difficult to understand at first) but i think we lost something along the way.
The RTS gameplay was one of the best things in the game and learning how to play it correctly was an amazing feeling. I really have no idea why you felt the need to rework them so much, especially with how weak they feel now.
The pre-rework CVs had the problem that the players' skills were important in the boring bits of making sure that the aircraft did not fly over AA-rich enemies on their way to their target, or that your fighters flew to engage enemy aircraft, but had no effect on evading AA fire or putting the weapons on target. Not all players were good at that and I had enough trouble with only one squadron of each type of aircraft. The the reworked CV play makes some of the boring bits more interesting and eliminates the rest and allows the player's skills to influence putting weapons on targets and evading AA fire. The CV rework did not weaken CVs, it changed what skills were needed to make CVs powerful. CVs are no weaker than they were before, but now they need a different skill set to use effectively. The rework was done because too many players could not make the old CVs work, at all. Unfortunately, the rework has made it difficult for the players that could use the old CVs to use the reworked CVs.
Then just nerf them a bit? They didn't need to rework it fully. They pulled a Blizzard with this, reworking something instead of simply nerfing it slightly.
It gives a light of hope for DD's, if you played the CV branch with the older version, you know how you can destroy DD's in one single drop..that's a good rework for me...the only thing that bothers me is the aa since its too OP to even strafe a BB now. If you don't like it, you can get 100% refund, if you don't like the game anymore, then uninstall, simple as that.
and now they get two torpedos in their payload! oh and they dont get shot down because tier 3-5 aa is dogshit! oh yeah so basicaly 6 torps because they dont get shot down, yay!
I think they should reinstate the old way but use this method to micro manage the squadron. I also wanna know if they could ever make a option to manually shoot down aircrafts
My DDs are doing fine. Heck my low tier Mutsuki became an AA monster with sectoring and the +2 flak module. As good as the Nicholas now, got 41 plane kills in a game because I screened between them and my team after we secured a cap point, dodged shells, and threw torps at ships trying to contest. My concealment was good so they didn't see me until flak started or I turned the AA on :P.
War thunder exists, more realistic, still on console. They have no excuse. I went to WT for tanks and aircraft cause they are better, WoWs was the last one I still kept playing cause WT's is still in infancy. Guess it's bye now...
because they knew they were going to get rid of the rts gameplay, and it would have been a waste of time. Now they know how the game is going to be, and it's also a good way to tell everyone rts is not coming back
Just bought a CV, didn't play them for 1year. I totally regret it. Came to search some guide and this is just terrible. If I wanted to control planes I would get another game. How can you not get more squadrons on the air?! Old control method was just fine! So, as right now: Played carrier once > Found it terrible > Saw this guide > Selling CV.
I actually had some fun with the old gameplay, i only used Langley shortly before the update came, when the prototype is being comunity tested Edit: i ended up quitting the game for some time now, i want to get back, but my PC and internet WiFi, can't handle the requirements for WoWs
I started playing this game again, and went, "Yeah okay, time to try a carrier again." I was completely befuddled by the new workings of the carriers but figured I was just missing that there was some way to control multiple squadrons as usual and I just didn't know how to switch out of manual control of squadrons. Nope, carriers are just boring and useless now. Cool.
This was definitely a reduction in power for aircraft carriers but I think it is needed. Good cv players had so much influence on the outcome of a game and having a bad cv on your team used to be an almost guaranteed defeat. The new system balances the influence of cv with surface ships and made cv play a lot more approachable for players who are not into RTS. It is not an easy change but I think it would eventually be good for the game as a whole. Changes are always difficult...
@@semicolontransistor Reduces the influence of carriers perhaps, but at the cost of forcing them to do exactly what it was other players got frustrated over (sending attacks without providing cover) at the expense of what irritated carrier players most (overwhelming AA preventing your planes from doing much). Basically other classes get the end of carriers they liked the least (getting repeatedly torped/bombed) and carriers have to repeatedly do what annoyed them the most: send their planes into overhwelming AA fire without really a chance to outmanuever the other team's carrier. There is no sense of outmanuevering the other carrier, just damage farming. Damage farming in the most annoying way, both sides lose out on this one. With every other class, you feel like you really have to outthink your opponent. Here it just seems like mindless farming. They "rebalanced" carriers in a manner of speaking, but at the cost of forcing the gameplay to focus on elements carriers and other classes hated.

I get that CVs were considered cancer by many, but there were still people who loved the complexity of multitasking and positioning squadrons to fend off fighters and attack ships. Now, the community is even more divided about CVs. Come on WG, you’re shooting yourself in the foot!
Ah yes, the old RTS mechanics that allowed a good player to absolutely dominate the match and be far too powerful, whilst inexperienced CV players cannot even lift a finger and were basically a detriment to their own team. Most of the new mechanics are broken because, well, they're new. They're effectively still in a testing phase, and WG has announced that a hotfix that fixrs most of the more pressing issues will release soon.
@@gfr9109 I liked the old RTS considering you can easily learn it, and it can make some good money on the side and allows you to take out your anger when you sunk 69 times and lost 66 of those times. It helped me with my anger, sure I can take a small update or 2 as long as i can make good money even though i didnt do much except try to help the team and still have the same controls. But, this, just ruined WoW for me, I lose money every time i play it, its super complicated to use, and i lose planes left and right.

@rex1supersaur23 that's something I agree on, but the old way made the cv unique, now they're bbs and dds, but on planes. And don't take my words wrong, i like the new way, but i preferred the old one.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION: Make 2 settings for carrier gameplay in port: simple and advanced. Simple carrier gameplay will make you play the reworked version of carrier gameplay. Advanced will allow you to return to the older carrier gsmeplay.
and those with the old system have to play against players who are using the same settings so the battle will be balanced, of course, same for the new one as well.
I hated this change! if I wanted to fly planes I would go to "world of airplanes", I wanted to be capitao cv and I was demoted to a pilot .. totally meaningless

I like to think they're going to keep working on this. The general idea is fine, with some balance and after getting used to the new mechanics the game should be ok.
I finally logged back into my account to play World of Warships after a long time, wanted to play a carrier with my friends in my division, first attempt at in this mess of an update, couldn't believe how frustrated I got when I found out I could only control one squadron at a time after looking at this tutorial and finding out they have ruined a great game because of there updates that no one would request, thanks a lot I thought it would be fun to get back into the game but I'm just 100% disappointed to see what has happened to the game. *Uninstalling the game now*

Decided to get wins in all my ship lines today so played about 14 battles, 4 carriers in every single fight and none of the games where interesting 12 out of the 14 where resolved purely by which side had the better carrier players so it just seems like everyone else is their xp. Playing the T8 British BB the Monarch and it's awful in part due to the rudder shift time, specced the ship for AA and even when the enemy fighters come into the fire zone which is 150% they still torp/bomb/rocket me having lost 0 planes and they always hit, and so the game seems to be unplayable, is really pissing annoying as it could be resolved by enforcing 1 carrier per team.
Yikes, just yikes... I came back after a few years to this game after a friend told me about upcoming subs and I was hyped. I was talking about how I was a carrier main and how fun it was. Now the keyword here is WAS. As the devs have slaughtered the gameplay of carriers. Why? Who knows? I never found carrier players as an OP thing, annoying? Yeah, but nothing OP. The new way to play carriers really kills it for me, and I hope they eventually see that the old style was better.
Again WG shows that they don't listen to their players/customers. I remember WG CEO said that this mistake will never happen again … after bad decisions in WoT !!! And what now Mr CEO … now it is even harder than before. Whole community is against WG decisions regarding new carriers system in WoWs … and as always WG DO NOT CARE at all :) !!! seth Thomas this isn’t a simulation game, it’s not suppose to be completely historically accurate, if that’s what you want go read history books. This is suppose to be a game. The main point to bring in money. What’s the best way to bring in money? Why, by making a fun and engaging game that people want to play of course! What makes games fun? Good balance, interesting scenarios/game modes, good maps to play on, and fairness for all. These are especially important to free to play games that rely on the player base to constantly provide money, as it is their main source of revenue. This rework, and cvs in general, seem to throw game balance off, and make things less fun for other ship types.
and you are wrong wot is now insanely good, hd graphics core engine havoc elements, if you are noob where you will die fast where, in wow i think cvs where broken too overpovered, when you play at bigger tiers you get 2 squadrons torpedoes and you just sink too hard to evade aa was not really good. A lot of comments about the old style. Problem was, there was no tutorial anywhere about how those mechanics worked, so most players, including myself, never tried them. I don't want to cripple a team by going in blind and not knowing at all what to do. Had there been any tutorials or a solo practice mode, perhaps it wouldn't have died. Old carriers were OP, probably why the older players liked it. The new system is way underpowered. Carriers need a large buff. In the old style, you could have several squadrons in the air at one time.

Pre-nerf CVs were far too powerful in the hands of an experienced player and almost completely useless in the hands of an inexperienced player. Whilst the rework is definitely nowhere near perfect, it's still effectively in a testing phase and can and probably will be better than the old system. Also, most of the really broken stuff will be fixed soon in a hotfix.
I downvoted your video because you didn’t even explain how fighters work. This rework is atrocious. Playing carrier used to mean knowing the strengths and weaknesses. Using strategy to help the team win the game. You could coordinate multiple attacks with multiple squadrons. You could drop individual bombs or torpedos anywhere at once or all together. Fighters could tie down bombers or outright kill spotter aircraft helping your bigger ships stay undetected which is a huge problem now. There were so many ways to play carrier and now there’s just a handful. I’d much rather take the RTS tactical map over whatever the hell this is. Literally a T4 ship a year ago could play in a game way more ways than a T4 can now. Way to actually make the sandbox smaller. I’ll still play the game but I’m quite bitter over this rework.
I love how the AA guns sound now... Can't say I love how the planes work now though. I sold my Cv's after testing the new mechanics. Hated the angle in which the camera was placed on the planes (I'd love to have a FPS camera), and aiming was just too difficult. Also, even though I love how the AA sounds now, I kind of feel it's underpowered as well. My NC focused on AA is weak now.
Pro tip, when you stick together it is hard to attack you as a CV. AA become strong. Different ships cover different angles that they cover. Planes have different attack altitudes.
@@christopherscarlett7301 The AA made it avoidable, now the torps never miss due to the stupidly short arming time and any numpty can aim a torp at like 0.5Km from the target, AA even with defensive fire doesn't stop aircraft thy just breeze through it at anything except T10 and even then only really if you have American T10... played 14 games today all of them where determined solely by which team had batter carriers and every game had 4 carriers in, I have had bad days before but I don't normally come away actively angry. 1 carrier enforced per random game would fix the issue, 2 is to many.
@@MichaelLaferriere I do, problem remains the same and I don't, I also zoom out and look around every shot with a BB until about 5 seconds before my guns are reloaded then zoom back in and every 10-15 seconds with a cruiser if I am engaging a target. Believe it or not I do actually know how to play the game, before I basically stopped due to the carriers making it just not fun I had about 2,500 games which doesn't make me a pro certainly but I understand how torpedoes work and turning into them, I would much prefer a longer arming time with more damage per torp so I actually have a chance to avoid them by your overly simplistic doesn't work suggestion. A the time I was playing the T8 or 9 British BB and I *might* have started to turn by the time the torps hit me every time. In any case, moot point now I will try the game again I am sure but I haven't played a single match for 4 months and the stress levels returned to normal almost immediately after I stopped. Even hanging around with AA cruisers used to make little difference but as I say that might have changed now.
Why is the mouse also used for steering planes instead of only changing the view direction like it is for ships? Please fix this or let the player turn it off.
As a new mom I wasn't sure which carrier was going to my preference. I was so surprised the drastic price range. Now, I didn't want to be cheap and have poor quality because I'm carrying precious cargo. I decided to give this a whirl and was very surprised that I would love it without breaking the bank. My baby loves doing everything with mom and this is a perfect fit for the job.
I spent a year and a half grinding carriers because I genuinely enjoyed the gameplay, now it just feels like a extremely barebones version of Battlestations Pacific without even the fun RTS aspect. Extremely dissapointed
I think it would be better if the aircrafts were controlled by the AI as another option that way while they're busy bombing your enemy you can focus on the ships in in front of you like multitasking (^^)
For a counter on the AA guns if fired by AA the planes would automatically spread out or have a skill to spread the planes out but the downside is it takes longer to get ready to fire torps, rockets or bombs
Yes please WG explain how AA “works” now. AFT doesn’t extend range, Manual AA does little to nothing useful, AA mod 1 (seriously why bother). Some ships that had great AA before seem lacking while others like NC are great. And that’s not all! Even a good AA ship will get lots of kills in one encounter and nothing in the next.

I loved playing The old world of warships CVs because it reminded me my child hood game "Battlestation: Pacific". now the CVs suck.
I wasn't very good at carrier gameplay.
But I deeply enjoyed the old carrier gameplay. I greatly enjoyed carefully managing my flights. I deeply enjoyed having to make a choice between escorting my bombers or escorting my friendly ships. I deeply enjoyed the calculated risk I took in positioning myself close enough to be able to rotate my attack wings in and out effectively.
It was difficult to master, and provided carrier players with a mode of gameplay that felt both completely different, and yet very fitting. I stopped playing for some time, but I can honestly say that I will not be coming back until they restore the RTS mode of Carrier gameplay.
CV got blamed too much, if they dont escort friendly ship, they got the blame. if their attack plane got destroyed because no one escort them, they got the blame. if CV user did good job, they never get praised because "its how they suppose to do". with this new CV gameplay, CV player can be selfish and enjoy the game without getting blamed much

I admit that I was rather a noob, but i loved playing my Ryujo and Taiho. I was a 50k from Hakuryu before 0.8.0... no one can give me back the time i spent in 2 years to reach T10, nor give me Free xp to compensate my broken dream.

One of the main reason why CV was so important at ww2 was they're the key to achieve air superiority in the open waters. They're not just for attacking role, they protecting the fleet, why you dev remove it?
And irl carriers strike multiple targets at the same time (back ww2 especially because there was a war going on) but know you attack one target at one time
Before this patch there were players who loved the top down RTS character of CV gameplay. This patch not only ruined their game but everyone else's as well. The term 'broken" doesn't even begin to describe what random gameplay is now. I will have nothing to do with any modes other than co op, scenarios, or ranked until balance is restored, or I'll just retire completely. I respect the effort of the design team but frankly believe it's already time to cut the losses before they deal the game a fatal blow. Admit the mistakes, pull the patch, revert to 0.7.12, & resume testing or give up. The loss of 3.5 yrs of goodwill simply won't be worth the costs of standing by this mess for a month.

Combine this with the old system. Want to manually control one squadron during an attack? You can, and as an incentive the attacks are more accurate. Want to not do that and coordinate the attacks of multiple squadrons all at once (you know, like an AIRCRAFT CARRIER), you can, but each squadron's attacks are less accurate. Want every plane in a squadron to attack? Want to control one squadron in flight? You can, and as an incentive they take less AA damage when passing ships. Want to not do that and coordinate the flight paths of multiple squadrons (you know, like an AIRCRAFT CARRIER)? You can! Set them to do so. Want only half or a third of the squadron to do so? Set them to do so, and have the planes not attacking take significantly less AA damage since they can focus on maneuvering to avoid it. Want to send a fighter escort? YOU CAN! As it is, this system is trash and has taken away any reason for me to play aircraft carriers (and thus buy premium carriers).
Remember how the US won the Battle of Midway by sending out one dive bomber squadron at a time and waiting for them to attack and return to the ships before sending out another? I don't, because that's not how they won. They sent multiple squadrons that hit the Japanese ships, and here's a novel concept, *at the same time.*
I’ve given the new update a go and honestly, the RTS system was so much better. I think all it really needed was for ships to have increased AA range so that it encourages players to sail together to cover each other. This update was a huge step backwards. The mechanics have become soo dumbed down its ridiculous why is player skill being punished? If the carriers were of equal skill they would tend to cancel each other out anyways because fighter squadrons made for a good deterrent. Now carriers are free to strike any ship they want. I thought the point of the rework was to make CVs less powerful. I’m afraid this rework has achieved the opposite.

It doesn't overlap anymore. When planes fly into the mid range aa, the long range aa doesn't fire anymore. When planes fly into the close range aa, midrange and long range don't fire. Which, obviously, is complete, absolute bullshit.

Next, you're actually telling us NOT to maneuver when we're on our attack run with torpedo bombers, but during that time if we don't maneuver we're sitting ducks for AA.
I tried this many times, it makes no freaking difference wether you wiggle or stay still, the damage you take is linear and relative to the distance of the AA fire source.

I just came back after 2 years or so of only carrier. I hate how as Americans we get 2 torpedoes per attack run meaning we get a tiny area of affect and only 2 drops per strafing run. This means every strafing run we're bound to lose 2 or 3 planes sometimes more while directly flying over the ship we just attempted to bomb. Not to mention, being under constant AA fire after trying to circle around to bomb again. Great precision is required as you only get 2 torpedoes a run. I liked it better when you had the chance to make a wall of 6 torpedoes per strafing run

I just came back to the game since like 2017, super confused why the carrier system was dumbed down.
Honestly, the fact that carriers were micro-intensive, yet could be dominating in the right hands, felt accurate to how they were in the war.

The CV rework means that you can only play CVs if you have the ability to twitch click. The one thing in the old CV play that I was good at was using my fighters to achieve air superiority, but fighters are now a consumable. Between having to dodge anti-aircraft fire and having to release bombs/torpedoes at the correct instant, I went from being a middling CV player who could send aircraft to the right places at nearly the right times to an AFK battleship that could spot enemies at a distance in co-op matches (while it was possible that the enemy CV player might be just as bad as me, I did not try to play my reworked CV in a random battle).
I cannot twitch click well enough to play the reworked CVs. I play World of Warships, because you can even be terrible at twitch clicking and still play well enough to contribute to the team and have fun. The intent of the CV rework was to open CV play to a larger pool of players. While other players may experience different results, the CV rework has completely shut me out of playing CVs.
Except the thing is, carriers were never for the noobs. From the start WG had bragged that CVs were for the “strategic players.” Now it’s just a fucking arcade mode.
Tiers 6 and 8 are pretty much useless if uptiered... there was no point getting rid of the odd tiers

You can control your CV on the tactical map by setting a course even when you have planes up ... but it's a pain compared to the old RTS gameplay.

In BS Pacific, you can launch multiple squadrons and let ai fly them while you direct, like the old CV gameplay, or take control yourself and switch between them, like the new gameplay.
I would have prefered that over being stuck in one squadron at a time.

If the playstyle like the one in BS Pacific, it will be more intense for carriers in both team because you have to fight enemy fighters first to get air supremacy so you can do any aerial attack. That's more fun to play and more historical accurate at the same time. Helping your teammates winning air combat become more important than just being a sky cancer. To be honest, this game has a lot things need to learn from his ironiclly not quite realistic but somewhat fun spiritual predecessor.

It says in the tips bit when you load in that all the target reticles are for fully aimed attacks, which is why they're usually a bit far forward.

They almost turn static. It would be much more helpful to have two markers then, one where the bombing run starts and one where it's on max focus (even if the latter is simplistic representation)

Tip for you,, the bom rectingle is vertical oval isn't it? use the uppper rectingle as your guidance, when the squadron start climbing the circle will move forward, if you not moving your squadron the cicle will tighten, when the squadron start diving, the rectingle will stop right in the bottom of your squadron, try to strike from front or back of enemy ship, that will do massive dmg,, and remember, don't hunt DD with your DB, that useless, and also remember that your squadron altitude also effect the impact time of your bomb
@Neoimperialist1 True, I've given up on DDs for now. Much better survivability chance in cruisers or battleships if you sail as a fleet. It's actually encouraging teamwork in Random Battle, not all the time, but much more than before.

I only wanted this cuz I thought the aircraft carrier launches Auto claims that they would go out and love your enemies for you instead of you take control of them but no there is no AI controlling them you have to do all the work that stinksit would be more convenient if the AI bombers went out fighting while you were busy attacking from the sea I think it would have been better if they had that feature

Hey WG, I have a good Idea, why not bring back the fighter as controllable squadron? just put them 3 or 4 aircraft per squadron, the way they attack is like strafing, but with limited ammo, once the ammo is depleted they'll return to the CV and only can be use one strike before taking off again.. I think that will have for the DD spotting and hunting issues

I see what you guys were going for, and i don't think this new game-play is necessarily bad, and is fairly fun but really was dramatic departure from some of the aspects of carriers that made them both challenging and enjoyable.
Firstly, part of what made carriers' entertaining for me was the management aspect, having to keep track of a lot of moving parts to include the carrier itself, and i wish there was a way to toggle back to my carrier to adjust course or respond to threats without forcing my squadron back to the carrier.
I think there is a healthy medium here and this new game play certainly made CVs more of a class of ship and less of a mini-game within the greater game (which was really difficult to understand at first) but i think we lost something along the way.
The RTS gameplay was one of the best things in the game and learning how to play it correctly was an amazing feeling. I really have no idea why you felt the need to rework them so much, especially with how weak they feel now.
AzureRoxe People complain the rts season system at higher tier was op and get dev strike by a single midway carrier duh.
The pre-rework CVs had the problem that the players' skills were important in the boring bits of making sure that the aircraft did not fly over AA-rich enemies on their way to their target, or that your fighters flew to engage enemy aircraft, but had no effect on evading AA fire or putting the weapons on target. Not all players were good at that and I had enough trouble with only one squadron of each type of aircraft.
The the reworked CV play makes some of the boring bits more interesting and eliminates the rest and allows the player's skills to influence putting weapons on targets and evading AA fire. The CV rework did not weaken CVs, it changed what skills were needed to make CVs powerful.
CVs are no weaker than they were before, but now they need a different skill set to use effectively. The rework was done because too many players could not make the old CVs work, at all. Unfortunately, the rework has made it difficult for the players that could use the old CVs to use the reworked CVs.
Then just nerf them a bit? They didn't need to rework it fully.
They pulled a Blizzard with this, reworking something instead of simply nerfing it slightly.
Rts cvs were just cáncer., this update creates New opportunity to balance cvs, it Will take time but it Will be better than before
It gives a light of hope for DD's, if you played the CV branch with the older version, you know how you can destroy DD's in one single drop..that's a good rework for me...the only thing that bothers me is the aa since its too OP to even strafe a BB now. If you don't like it, you can get 100% refund, if you don't like the game anymore, then uninstall, simple as that.

My DDs are doing fine. Heck my low tier Mutsuki became an AA monster with sectoring and the +2 flak module. As good as the Nicholas now, got 41 plane kills in a game because I screened between them and my team after we secured a cap point, dodged shells, and threw torps at ships trying to contest. My concealment was good so they didn't see me until flak started or I turned the AA on :P.

Just bought a CV, didn't play them for 1year. I totally regret it. Came to search some guide and this is just terrible. If I wanted to control planes I would get another game. How can you not get more squadrons on the air?! Old control method was just fine! So, as right now: Played carrier once > Found it terrible > Saw this guide > Selling CV.
I actually had some fun with the old gameplay, i only used Langley shortly before the update came, when the prototype is being comunity tested
Edit: i ended up quitting the game for some time now, i want to get back, but my PC and internet WiFi, can't handle the requirements for WoWs
I started playing this game again, and went, "Yeah okay, time to try a carrier again." I was completely befuddled by the new workings of the carriers but figured I was just missing that there was some way to control multiple squadrons as usual and I just didn't know how to switch out of manual control of squadrons. Nope, carriers are just boring and useless now. Cool.

This was definitely a reduction in power for aircraft carriers but I think it is needed. Good cv players had so much influence on the outcome of a game and having a bad cv on your team used to be an almost guaranteed defeat. The new system balances the influence of cv with surface ships and made cv play a lot more approachable for players who are not into RTS. It is not an easy change but I think it would eventually be good for the game as a whole. Changes are always difficult...
@@semicolontransistor Reduces the influence of carriers perhaps, but at the cost of forcing them to do exactly what it was other players got frustrated over (sending attacks without providing cover) at the expense of what irritated carrier players most (overwhelming AA preventing your planes from doing much).
Basically other classes get the end of carriers they liked the least (getting repeatedly torped/bombed) and carriers have to repeatedly do what annoyed them the most: send their planes into overhwelming AA fire without really a chance to outmanuever the other team's carrier.
There is no sense of outmanuevering the other carrier, just damage farming. Damage farming in the most annoying way, both sides lose out on this one. With every other class, you feel like you really have to outthink your opponent. Here it just seems like mindless farming.
They "rebalanced" carriers in a manner of speaking, but at the cost of forcing the gameplay to focus on elements carriers and other classes hated.
@GunslingerXXI absolutely correct, maybe they should make a game smiley based on carrier gameplay. They could have rebalance the carriers by just reducing the damage

I get that CVs were considered cancer by many, but there were still people who loved the complexity of multitasking and positioning squadrons to fend off fighters and attack ships. Now, the community is even more divided about CVs. Come on WG, you’re shooting yourself in the foot!

Ah yes, the old RTS mechanics that allowed a good player to absolutely dominate the match and be far too powerful, whilst inexperienced CV players cannot even lift a finger and were basically a detriment to their own team.
Most of the new mechanics are broken because, well, they're new. They're effectively still in a testing phase, and WG has announced that a hotfix that fixrs most of the more pressing issues will release soon.
@@gfr9109 I liked the old RTS considering you can easily learn it, and it can make some good money on the side and allows you to take out your anger when you sunk 69 times and lost 66 of those times. It helped me with my anger, sure I can take a small update or 2 as long as i can make good money even though i didnt do much except try to help the team and still have the same controls. But, this, just ruined WoW for me, I lose money every time i play it, its super complicated to use, and i lose planes left and right.

As it turned out, not much did change but how would someone be able to know that at that point in time?
Still prefer the older version of the carriers, it actually felt like an Actual Aircraft Carriers, not world of Warplanes, but its wg, what can we except from them?
@rex1supersaur23 that's something I agree on, but the old way made the cv unique, now they're bbs and dds, but on planes.
And don't take my words wrong, i like the new way, but i preferred the old one.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
Make 2 settings for carrier gameplay in port: simple and advanced. Simple carrier gameplay will make you play the reworked version of carrier gameplay. Advanced will allow you to return to the older carrier gsmeplay.
and those with the old system have to play against players who are using the same settings so the battle will be balanced, of course, same for the new one as well.

When i think all the effort i've put into the game buying & unlocking many different ships, different tiers , crates,flags, doubloons all gone to waste coz of a Cv rework !!!

I finally logged back into my account to play World of Warships after a long time, wanted to play a carrier with my friends in my division, first attempt at in this mess of an update, couldn't believe how frustrated I got when I found out I could only control one squadron at a time after looking at this tutorial and finding out they have ruined a great game because of there updates that no one would request, thanks a lot I thought it would be fun to get back into the game but I'm just 100% disappointed to see what has happened to the game.

Decided to get wins in all my ship lines today so played about 14 battles, 4 carriers in every single fight and none of the games where interesting 12 out of the 14 where resolved purely by which side had the better carrier players so it just seems like everyone else is their xp. Playing the T8 British BB the Monarch and it's awful in part due to the rudder shift time, specced the ship for AA and even when the enemy fighters come into the fire zone which is 150% they still torp/bomb/rocket me having lost 0 planes and they always hit, and so the game seems to be unplayable, is really pissing annoying as it could be resolved by enforcing 1 carrier per team.
I play with the old system, and even if it was difficult to understand at first, it was way more fun than.... this.
Yikes, just yikes... I came back after a few years to this game after a friend told me about upcoming subs and I was hyped. I was talking about how I was a carrier main and how fun it was. Now the keyword here is WAS. As the devs have slaughtered the gameplay of carriers. Why? Who knows? I never found carrier players as an OP thing, annoying? Yeah, but nothing OP. The new way to play carriers really kills it for me, and I hope they eventually see that the old style was better.
Again WG shows that they don't listen to their players/customers. I remember WG CEO said that this mistake will never happen again … after bad decisions in WoT !!! And what now Mr CEO … now it is even harder than before. Whole community is against WG decisions regarding new carriers system in WoWs … and as always WG DO NOT CARE at all :) !!! seth Thomas this isn’t a simulation game, it’s not suppose to be completely historically accurate, if that’s what you want go read history books. This is suppose to be a game. The main point to bring in money. What’s the best way to bring in money? Why, by making a fun and engaging game that people want to play of course! What makes games fun? Good balance, interesting scenarios/game modes, good maps to play on, and fairness for all. These are especially important to free to play games that rely on the player base to constantly provide money, as it is their main source of revenue. This rework, and cvs in general, seem to throw game balance off, and make things less fun for other ship types.
and you are wrong wot is now insanely good, hd graphics core engine havoc elements, if you are noob where you will die fast where, in wow i think cvs where broken too overpovered, when you play at bigger tiers you get 2 squadrons torpedoes and you just sink too hard to evade aa was not really good. A lot of comments about the old style. Problem was, there was no tutorial anywhere about how those mechanics worked, so most players, including myself, never tried them. I don't want to cripple a team by going in blind and not knowing at all what to do. Had there been any tutorials or a solo practice mode, perhaps it wouldn't have died.
Old carriers were OP, probably why the older players liked it. The new system is way underpowered. Carriers need a large buff. In the old style, you could have several squadrons in the air at one time.
Welp, can't wait for War Thunder to add Aircraft Carriers. Maybe we can get something we want

Pre-nerf CVs were far too powerful in the hands of an experienced player and almost completely useless in the hands of an inexperienced player. Whilst the rework is definitely nowhere near perfect, it's still effectively in a testing phase and can and probably will be better than the old system.
Also, most of the really broken stuff will be fixed soon in a hotfix.

This rework is atrocious. Playing carrier used to mean knowing the strengths and weaknesses. Using strategy to help the team win the game. You could coordinate multiple attacks with multiple squadrons. You could drop individual bombs or torpedos anywhere at once or all together. Fighters could tie down bombers or outright kill spotter aircraft helping your bigger ships stay undetected which is a huge problem now. There were so many ways to play carrier and now there’s just a handful. I’d much rather take the RTS tactical map over whatever the hell this is.
Literally a T4 ship a year ago could play in a game way more ways than a T4 can now. Way to actually make the sandbox smaller. I’ll still play the game but I’m quite bitter over this rework.
I love how the AA guns sound now... Can't say I love how the planes work now though. I sold my Cv's after testing the new mechanics. Hated the angle in which the camera was placed on the planes (I'd love to have a FPS camera), and aiming was just too difficult.
Also, even though I love how the AA sounds now, I kind of feel it's underpowered as well. My NC focused on AA is weak now.
How is it that an airplane refueled the torpedoes, the bombs and the rockets in flight?

Pro tip, when you stick together it is hard to attack you as a CV. AA become strong.
Different ships cover different angles that they cover. Planes have different attack altitudes.

@@christopherscarlett7301 The AA made it avoidable, now the torps never miss due to the stupidly short arming time and any numpty can aim a torp at like 0.5Km from the target, AA even with defensive fire doesn't stop aircraft thy just breeze through it at anything except T10 and even then only really if you have American T10... played 14 games today all of them where determined solely by which team had batter carriers and every game had 4 carriers in, I have had bad days before but I don't normally come away actively angry. 1 carrier enforced per random game would fix the issue, 2 is to many.

@@MichaelLaferriere I do, problem remains the same and I don't, I also zoom out and look around every shot with a BB until about 5 seconds before my guns are reloaded then zoom back in and every 10-15 seconds with a cruiser if I am engaging a target.
Believe it or not I do actually know how to play the game, before I basically stopped due to the carriers making it just not fun I had about 2,500 games which doesn't make me a pro certainly but I understand how torpedoes work and turning into them, I would much prefer a longer arming time with more damage per torp so I actually have a chance to avoid them by your overly simplistic doesn't work suggestion. A the time I was playing the T8 or 9 British BB and I *might* have started to turn by the time the torps hit me every time. In any case, moot point now I will try the game again I am sure but I haven't played a single match for 4 months and the stress levels returned to normal almost immediately after I stopped.
Even hanging around with AA cruisers used to make little difference but as I say that might have changed now.

They have degraded the cv which I brought up since I started, I'll never forget.
As a new mom I wasn't sure which carrier was going to my preference. I was so surprised the drastic price range. Now, I didn't want to be cheap and have poor quality because I'm carrying precious cargo. I decided to give this a whirl and was very surprised that I would love it without breaking the bank. My baby loves doing everything with mom and this is a perfect fit for the job.
I spent a year and a half grinding carriers because I genuinely enjoyed the gameplay, now it just feels like a extremely barebones version of Battlestations Pacific without even the fun RTS aspect. Extremely dissapointed
Might as well just play Battlestations Pacific. It costs less and you don't have to grind to play carriers.
I think it would be better if the aircrafts were controlled by the AI as another option that way while they're busy bombing your enemy you can focus on the ships in in front of you like multitasking (^^)
great, before the next vid, i am not playing wows, so i don't go in without knowing how the new AA works.
For a counter on the AA guns if fired by AA the planes would automatically spread out or have a skill to spread the planes out but the downside is it takes longer to get ready to fire torps, rockets or bombs

Yes please WG explain how AA “works” now. AFT doesn’t extend range, Manual AA does little to nothing useful, AA mod 1 (seriously why bother). Some ships that had great AA before seem lacking while others like NC are great. And that’s not all! Even a good AA ship will get lots of kills in one encounter and nothing in the next.
Kind of surprised that you have the Kaga but not the Akagi to join her yet, considering how often their paired together in fiction.
