I switched from M340i Touring to an i4 M50 in January as it was coming up to the end of the PCP and looking at a replacement, it was ridiculously expensive, not to mention the insurance. Looked at my companies salary sacrifice scheme and could get the i4 M50 for the same all in monthly payment as the M340i in 2020. Just made financial sense. As I rarely do long journeys, charging away from home is something I’ll do maybe once a month. Only issue I had was a trip up to Sheffield last week where I found most of the chargers in the centre of the city had the cables stolen! I think I found the only remaining fast charger that wasn’t out of action! There are some plus points of the i4, especially the preconditioning in the winter.

You should be scared, we put £1k down on a new 520i in Oct (would have been our 5th bmw), but last minute got a model Y instead, just couldn't face paying the extra tax/maintenance cost. Test drove the 520i today just to see what we missed out on. The interior felt fussy/complex, I didn't like getting a big key, drove nice thou. But we drove away from the dealer in the Y knowing we made the right choice. We've already done 7k miles in the Y, including Alps trip in Feb 1/2 term, super charging is reliable & uneventful, wife and I love it, easiest car to live with hands down. Your perception of a car changes after living with a Tesla, anything with big exhausts looks out of date to us now. I'm excited for the neue klasse thou!
Couldn’t agree more with Joe the battery tech that is like for like to combustion engines is still more than 5 years away according to my buddy who is ceo of a solid state battery technology development company
Solid state batteries are harder to recycle, you need to pay (in Europe and UK) for the recycling of your car when you buy it new since 2002. Hence the recycled materials in the interior and aluminium bodywork in lots of cars built in Europe. If you can't recycle it then you may not be able to sell it in the UK, Europe, US etc as the law has changed to halt countries greenwashing their stats by exporting cars to 3rd world countries who they probably shafted digging the minerals out in the first place
The depreciation is great. I just bought the wife a used Model 3. It’s far better than the BMW X1 it replaced, drives better, better tech, cheaper to run, good range.
As EVs are not selling in the numbers expected, car manufacturers may reduce their ICE production to ensure they meet "Government" targets. The market is going in the wrong direction. We need smaller economic ICE vehicles like the Ford Fiesta, Fiat 500 etc. Or keep your old ICE car for as long as possible.
I dislike Tesla, but they sold half a million cars and their IPO is $175. Yes German car makers don't make a good EV and Britain has a policy to incentivise company car buyers to buy an EV, there is no limit on size, weight or cost. So why wouldn't you buy a very expensive Taycan? But in Holland you get taxed on each kilo over 500kg, in France they have an SUV tax. This is more a political argument instead of a car product issue
I find this echo chamber is not based in actual numbers. Using second hand Taycans as the example would be like using CL55s as car ownership or you not being able to trade in a McLaren as the example of supercar ownership. Germany can't make good EVs, this is more of a company issue for them rather than cars in general. Also this is a specific British issue in terms of tax incentives and other targets which are artificially twisting things, not just a product issue.

home ev is 7p kwh to charge but octopus energy increases the day rate plus standing charge and so people who only have electric home heating and cooking wil get huge electricity bills, energy companies still robbing people who have home ev charging and is "Never" cheap, i thought rich people were intelligent not to get robbed and know their maths, you can afford a tesla because you have a big private pension, shares and get paid by your subcribers, but we ordinary low paid people can never afford a decent ev like tesla because our parents, ancestors never stole wealth we tax payers pay for infrastructure and these companies rip us off with high prices

As much as I love petrol, I'd rather a diesel over an EV any day of the week.. My family fleet comprises of 2 petrol Abarth cars and 1 Skoda diesel.
