Thats my favorite place to watch trains. The horn echoes perfectly in the valley

yes, the gevo's have a lower sound for one simple reason, they have different bells on it. K5HL's have Bells 1l, 1, 2, 3, 4 and the H in the K5HL stands for high manifold, k5la's have 1, 2, 3a, 4a, 5 on them with a Low manafold. the one on the amtrak is a k5LA because its a low manafold and produces some of the higher tones then the HL does.

That sounded like a K5HL on the second train, with 461 pushing?? Great catch! Now, if only we could see a Cascades loco pulling a Surfliner...

QuickBurn70 oh what heaven that would be, too bad we don't see surfliner locks up here anymore, they just put P42s and call it a day. Amtrak has no taste anymore.

Surfliner F59 was up here again recently, 463. I caught it, and when i did, it sure brought some memories

Ahhh, the good ol' days with the F40PH's and F59PHI's on Cascades and Sounder. Now, Sounder has the MP40PH-3C which has a 4-piece windshield and is meant to comply with the Tier 3 standard. I really do like the F59PHI's better. Now both the 40 and 59 will be replaced with Chargers. Kinda sad to see them go. The Charger does look pretty cool, though!

Both engines are working in the direction of travel. Saves on turning the train around at either end of it's route.

Wow I didn't realize some of the cabbages had K5HL horns...that's the same horn on GEVO's, right? Anyway, great video!

Is the back engine actually pushing or just along for the ride until the train goes back?

I just can't understand one thing about the cabbage cars on the Cascades trains. How can they have a horn if they don't have an engine to produce power for the horn?

No, it really is a poorly maintained K5LA horn. It sounds identical to most of the other horns on the other Cascades NPCUs except one note is off. This horn plays a b where it should play an a. The other K5LA horns on the Cascades NPCUs play c d e a and c.
