- Walking along the water’s edge, Gary spotted a trumpeter swan with blood on his feathers curled up on the shoreline. As he drew closer, he was shocked to see a fish hook embedded in the poor bird’s mouth. No doubt in pain and unable to eat, the injured swan needed urgent help…
How will the Rescue Team catch North America’s largest waterbird and get him the medical care he needs? - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
these guys need your support
This is my local beach. I can't tell you how sick and tired I am of people fishing in this area, leaving their lines on the ground. Fishing should be banned at this beach, period! Why is it allowed? I've had to call you guys on a couple of occasions for lines wrapped around birds on this beach. Just ban fishing. It should not be allowed. Not just for bird injuries but for other animals, wildlife and domestic.
Yes I was thinking the same too, why should fishing be allowed, and those indulging in fishing, why are they so careless?
Yes fishing should be banned there why hurt these beautiful birds 😢
Thank u for helping this swan ❤❤
I know Gary! He's always at the park keeping tabs on the swans. Such a great guy. So glad he called this in and so glad you guys were able to help. Keep it up with the videos!
Yay Gary, Sarrah, Andrew, Clemence, Dr. Snead, and everyone who helped this beautiful swan!
Wonderful work saving this beautiful Trumpeter Swan's life, as he would have starved to death without help. I see he was released in March 2024
Great work everyone ! and a big thank you to Gary for spending time with the birds. The team at TWC are wonderful.. So glad you are here for our wildlife.
Thank you for caring. Breaks my heart but a happy ending.
Thank you, you all are amazing! ❤
Thanks to all those caring people and the medics
Go, N45! The releases are always so wonderful to watch. What an incredible rescue, as always. The surgery was hard to watch, but so happy this beautiful swan had a happy ending. I just love these videos - they showcase all of TWC's outstanding efforts, care and commitment to wildlife. ❤
A great, positive story. Thanks to all involved for the amazing work you do. And especially to Gary who saw something wrong and did something about it.
You are all amazing ….. thank you!!!
Way to go Gary!!
His tail was waggling after his release. He was really happy. Pain gone and back home 👍
Thank you for all the wonderful job that you do ❤
Thank you TWC for helping N45; such a beautiful bird, it was horrifying to see him covered with blood. Gary, thanks for reporting the bird then returning to find and watch over him for the rescue. I really wish fishing was banned in this area, but if you are going to fish, please do so responsibly. Don't just cut your line when the hook gets snagged on weeds. Those weeds are the food for these majestic birds and other waterfowl.
I care really deeply for the swans at Rouge Beach, especially the ones I've watched grow up since they were weeks old, and I always feel a bit of a sense of dread seeing people fishing so close to the swans. This is an important place for a species that deserves our protection. It's not just the swans, it's the blue herons, night herons, egrets, geese, mallards, muskrats, minks, beavers, and all the other waterfowl and creatures that live in the marsh and lake. I'm sick of seeing discarded lines and floats and other hazards left by careless fishers. At least there are still people looking out for swans like N45, though. Nice to see a good ending.
Thank you TWC! Amazing as always.
There has been such a dramatic INCREASE in injuries to our Swans, Geese and Ducks due to fish hooks, fishing line and swallowing of lead sinkers!! I have never seen so many birds affected like this!!
Maybe it is time for a FULL CORE PRESS to our news media about these dangers our CARELESS fishermen are posing on all of our wildlife!! If this is NOT addressed to the public, this will just continue and get worse!!
Sincerely, Art
They need to ban fishing in these parks!
All talks and campaigns will not help. There should be real punishment for bad behavior.
We have harsh fines for feeding wildlife. No fines or punishment for discarding fishing gear in our waterways. Should we really be surprised that number of birds injured by fishing lines, hooks, lead sinkers increases? Until authorities priority will be catching and punishing people who bring handful of seeds to birds(easy target) and turning blind eye on “fishermen” nothing will change.
Toronto exempts anglers from feeding bans
How long was the swan in rehab to recover?
Did the swan unite with its friends and family after the wonderful care it received?
Hi @amberare6268,
Once fully recovered, the swan was released where he was originally found! 💚
This is the problem with the fishing industry (including for sports) because they just leave their gear haphazardly everywhere to inflict damage on our wildlife..🤦🏽
I wish ALL "Sport Fishing" could be banned in our City's waterways....but maybe making barbed hooks illegal could help too.
Fishing should be banned there!
Thank you for helping this beautiful swan.
Confuse those saw another video of the same Swan where they released it on a nearby Street and it saw its mate and they ran towards each other so I'm pretty sure it's the same one so I don't understand this one where they're showing a release in the water not around its mate so I'm a bit confused???
Hi Judy,
Thanks so much for watching! The swan in this video is actually a different swan from the other release video you're referring to. Unfortunately it's not a rare occurrence for waterfowl to be admitted to TWC due to injuries from fishing line and tackle. Thank you for caring about wildlife! 💚
ban fishing!! this happens all the time in this area, its cruel and unnecessary. people just do it for fun but innocent animals suffer.
Thank you all. It takes a team to do this. Gary
Please track your sighting of Sausage aka N45 and let us know if he reunites with his mate.🦢
