Im so happy i can get a good quality hiddenblade model for free now. Rawice 511 seemed to not relize people wanted to print these and im happy i can now
I've tried making this same design here more than a year ago. Of course I couldn't do it. I thought it was almost impossible because of friction. You are the best!
Glad to hear you haven't given up! It's a tough job but it's so worth it! Let me know if you have any issues with this one and I'll try my best to help! :)
Hi Tommaso, it's next on my to-do list! I've made some adjustments over the last few weeks to make it easier to print and assemble, and I'm at a point that I think I'm happy with :)
I printed your design. First of all, I really like the aesthetics and the gear system, in addition to thanking you for your work in giving us free hidden blade models. I wanted to ask you what exactly "pulley" is for. I also wanted to tell you that the hidden blade works until I put the cover on, I don't know if it's because the gears rub or because the system would have to be sanded or lubricated (I don't know if you explain it in the video, I'm not very good at English and I don't I understand everything) Would there be a possibility to make the cover deeper?
hi there, would there be a way to alter this design, so that the drive rack is pushed back and forth by a spinning wheel with a pin, turning in a slot on a flat plate attached to it (i've described that badly but if you check out the mechanism for the colinfurze hidden blade?) it would allow you to effectively have a locking blade without the impact on the plastic or breaking rubber bands of spring loaded OTF blades
just thinking about it now, the draw length of the drive rack would be limited by the diameter of the circular piece you would need to fit..? if that became any shorter would it be a simple case of resizing the gears..?
@@volcanicus3459 this is a neat idea! I think you've hit the problem on the head though - you would be limited in draw by the diameter of the wheel, which is why most mechanisms like this end up requiring OTF to "shoot" the blade the distance, rather than it being driven by a wheel :) I suppose you could make the drive rack driven by another gear which was then attached to some sort of linear-to-circular motion mech, maybe something like a scotch yolk, although I can't think off the top of my head how you'd get it to switch directions mechanically to retract the drive rack, which could be a bit more hastle than it's worth... interesting thoughts though, I'll do some research and see if it's possible! :)
It depends on the parts. I’ve been 3d printing for almost 2 years now so I think I can help. For the smaller parts like the gears and pins and all those type of parts then do 60-100 percent. For the larger parts like the blade, case, and topper 10-15 percent should suffice. Hope this helps 😊

hey, i printet your design, but the 30t gears doesnt work well, the gear teeth are to smal, maybe someone has a solutuon for it. I tried to put the wall thicknes down, but it didnt work.
You should be using M2 x 10 pozi screws, and for the elastics I recommend dental bands as they're way stronger :) You can find amazon links for these things in the thingiverse page description for ease!
Heya printed this a few days ago. I've read the comments and its seems to be cosistently the 30T gears that are messing up. ive done some tests and had small success upscaling the print in the slicer by 5%. would laser cutting these gears be a better option? (might be a case of re-tuning the printer)
Update! increasing gear size and re-tuning the printer worked fine. I had the highest quality possible set on my Cr-10 and the gears mesh perfectly now

@camtron1924 What if the blade comes out by itself near an eye or a vein. I want to sharpen it and probably replace the plastic with metal for more accuracy
@@zeto_on_drugs6561 the blade can’t come out by itself because the gear ratio means it that it takes significantly more effort to full the blade out than to push the blade out. This is because when you have a large gear as the output and small gear as the input you need more torque on the input gear to turn it. The means that turning a larger gear as the input is easier when the output is smaller. This applies to the blade with the string moving a large gear (input) and the gear moving the blade (output) is smaller. This allows the string pull to easily move the blade but gravity or pulling on the blade does the opposite. You have the gear that the blade would move (input) which is small and the gear that the input is trying to turn (output) is the one that the string is attached to which is larger therefore it takes more effort.
