- Im taking you guys with me in this vlog on a day in the life of a male hygienist. There aren't many of us out here comparative to our female peers but we exist and fit in greatly. We are the minority but our numbers are growing. I hope that through some of these videos I can serve as a beacon to those wishing to sail into this field but are unsure if they'd be accepted let alone hired. I've created a community for male hygienists and those who support us on Fb and IG called: Prophy Kings go follow and let us know you came from UA-cam so we know this platform is helping spread the message.

I enjoyed watching this. Thanks for the reminder to remain flexible with the daily schedule. I too, work 2 columns with an assistant, but that's my schedule everyday. As long as I keep some flexibility with schedule changes, my assistant can feed off of my attitude and overall this helps the workday be more pleasant and enjoyable, remembering that we're there for the patients!👍🏾👍🏾

I finish my prerequisite this April and then applying to Dental Hygiene. I’m so excited! A little nervous because you don’t see many male hygienists but thanks for the video and the motivation!

As a male looking to get into this field it was great to learn from a more relatable viewpoint. How is your neck/back coping with the work, or does staying in shape help with the wear-and tear?
Glad you found value in the content. I would absolutely argue that fitness/core conditions will positively/negatively impact the wear and tear of your body over the course of your career.

I knew I always wanted to work in the dental field, but I took a few years off from school to explore other options, and it always led me back to dental hygiene. As of January 13 2020, I’m enrolled back into school and reward to get into this program! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾!

Im a male RDH only temp. I make sure that I take my break. And it's not break. I'll eat between. I always bring my lunch and snack. I don't GAF about pt between because most probably I'll never come back to the office. I eat . I use the bathroom. I drink my water and my coffee. Seriously this pp don't care. So why should I. I learned to copy and paste the old note if available. Ask questions, do the extra intra oral assessment. Go back quick fix the note, save. And with no talking anymore do the cleaning. 20 m. And get out of my chair lol. I recommend flossing is more important than brushing. But the 2 goes together. And buy a tongue scraper. For extra questions I searched on the computer and show the images. I learned all this by my self. Because no one gives me no tips at all. On how to survive a brutal day. Also 80% of cleaning is with cavitron. And only interproximal with whatever scaler the office trow it.. my hands used to hurt. But I do the least effort now and only activating if calculus present but using the opposite fingers to apply force. So I don't screw my working hand. 😂😂😂

It's weird like I feel like nursing would actually matter if you are taking care of male/female patient (since it's a lot more personal) but I don't understand why there would be such a big difference in preference in dental hygiene. Like most dentist I know are male (also a lot of females) and I thought it would be similar because some dentists also do cleaning as well
My sentiments exactly! But because of the domination of women in this field it created a mindset that it’s a career FOR women. The representation is necessary and with work I can see this being a field that knows nothing different than it being widely normal for both men and women.

I didn't realize this was a female dominated field. All my hygenists have been men. Granted, that's only like, 3 or 4, but still.
I’m in school for a dental hygienist I thank you for this video this field is dominated by so many women and not a lot of men I’m 24 and this video gave me hope that’s it’s possible to get a job as a hygienist

@@Justchrislove what’s the IG name and Im considering moving to Cali because I was recently looking at salaries out their and it was jobs offering 140,000 a year currently finishing up only got one more semester and a half then I’m in the program where did you decide to move once you became a hygienist
@@markj2825 Prophy_Kings is the IG name. I stayed in Georgia to practice but yes west coast pays more, higher cost of living and other licenses typically raises the salary.

Nick Not at all having the license to practice and the proper credentials for that particular state will get you a job. You level of education will offer you different opportunities, example you need a bachelors to teach hygiene, you need a masters to be a program director. Hope this helps✊🏾

I am a fan of prevenative maintence and restorative But not personally a fan of root canals for myself.... I did see myself becoming a DH but just cant afford to be out of work for 2 years.... I also like patient care and have compassion for the sick.... Im also asking 4 advice because of pay and jobs and skill set etc...
