McLaren F1 GTR. For the fact that it wasn't intended to be a racecar by Gordon Murray's own words yet went on to win outright against all the prototypes in 1995. Likely the last street car which will ever do so.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the "real" prototypes aka Group C were effectively banned the year before with the less powerful LMP94/WSC being the only protos which might have had a chance. The C34 did just one lap less in the end after losing massively in the early hours due to rain and losing six laps due to an accident. That was one of the many LM races which was won by the car with simply less trouble than the others, not because the car was better. Just look at the total number of laps, the F1 just managed to do 298 laps whereas the LMP1 Porsche did 354 laps in the following year - 16 more than the best F1 that year - and the "LMGT1" Dauer 962 - which was basically a C1 - did 344 laps the year before.
That Iconic Jaguar XJR-9 in Silk Cut colours. I was fortunate enough to see the Number 2 car at Le Mans this year as part of a display stand at the 24Hr, it's even more breathtaking in person.
I know it didnt win but mine would have to be the gorgeous 1971 917 LH, plus shout out to the '68/9 winning GT40, a car well past it's sell-by date then.
Thank you! This really puts things into a correct perspective. One can not argue about race results; they are what they are! One of the many reasons why I love motor sport. G.
I can't imagine driving for hours and hours in an open cockpit, no headrest, no seat belts, and flexy spoke wheels. Those old classic cars were so unsafe. Yikes 😮
Beautiful cars, shame about the aspect ratio. Note to Sportnerd: if the wheels look oval, and the crowd look like hobbits, you need to adjust the image!
In those days it was more common that racing drivers would compete in different classes. Hawthorns win was bittersweet because he was responsible for a big crash in the 1955 Race wich led to many spectators dying after the accident.
My absolute favourite is the iconic Mazda 787B. There's always Porsce/Audi/Mercedes and the like amongst the winners. Not really any surprises in that. Then comes this little Japanese team with their 4-chamber Rotary engine and beat them all. Hats off to that. Listening to he Mazda going full speed the Mulsanne strait gives every petrol head a boner. ....
First of all thank you for taking your time and watching the video. And thanks for noticing it. I was questioning it myself but made a mistake researching it.
Toyota does not deserve to be a part of this list because of the fact that they stayed after Porsche and Audi withdrew their participation in endurance racing. There was no competition and in a desperate attempt to win Le Mans Toyota stayed "just to win"....I guess a win is a win BUT STILL
Sounds like a whole lot of copium chief. Let’s reexamine this one in a few years after the LMH and LMDH classes are fully fleshed out and see where things are at then.
It's still an achievement to keep a car like that running for 24 hours. Might not have had the competition in Audi and Porsche but there were plenty of other teams within striking distance if Toyota had problems.

The fact that the F1 beat out every single other prototype in a form not very disimilar to what you'd get on the road is a real achievement .
True but they were a moment when prototype were way faster than f1 just not enough aerodynamic
@@abdoulazizdiallo5814 That seems like an excuse, not a reason.

@@timheinemann6388 Ok? I never said the F1 was better than the prototypes I just said it was cool it won.
Like they say: Le Mans chooses the winner
The McLaren F1 is my all time favorite. An absolutely amazing car. Great vid!
The way that Porche 956 set te standard for how the cars looked like and were engineered for the next 20 years is remarkable
Shout out to Carroll Shelby and the winning 1959 Aston Martin. What a beautiful car!
Definitely the most beautiful body design.
Ken Miles 's course has ended. The Ferrari won the 100th Race. RIP Ken, the true winner of the Le Mans 66'

Thank you for this video! My favorites are the Audis R8, R8 TDI, R10, R18. Then the Mazda 787b, and Sauber Mercedes
My favourite is still the 2011 Audi R18 TDI, beautiful car, fantastic race between the Peugeots and the one remaining Audi
Ford GT40-1 still the baddest of the bunch and always will be!
I know it didnt win but mine would have to be the gorgeous 1971 917 LH, plus shout out to the '68/9 winning GT40, a car well past it's sell-by date then.
It was what, 4 years old? Thats nothing in endurance racing, its pretty much the average life of a car
So many favourites I love the Mazda, both Peugeots and the 911gt1. But for me something is special about the R18 2011
Thank you! This really puts things into a correct perspective. One can not argue about race results; they are what they are! One of the many reasons why I love motor sport. G.
2023 Ferrari 499 P , Pier Guidi, Giovinazzi e Calado . 👏👍
I love all the 1990s winners - Thanks Gran Turismo!
Mazda 787B, after years of failure they got the gold before they changed the rules
Ferrari 250LM, street car, drive it off the showroom floor and win !!!
The Audi and Porsche years for me where the best.
The 911 GT1-98 is probably my favorite, though the McLaren F1 comes close, and maybe the GR010 and the D-Type as well
Great video 😊 I really liked the Mazda in 91.
I can't imagine driving for hours and hours in an open cockpit, no headrest, no seat belts, and flexy spoke wheels. Those old classic cars were so unsafe. Yikes 😮
To think, it took Ferrari 58 years to have another *overall* win
The Sauber C9 is my favourite car of all
The 917 is the greatest road racing car ever built. Even today most cars would have a hard time beating it.
My favorite will be always Mazda 787B. F1 is the second favorite.
Beautiful Car
917K followed by the GT1 '98.
Porsche 956
Can you not get the aspect ratio correct on the images these beautiful cars?
Beautiful cars, shame about the aspect ratio. Note to Sportnerd: if the wheels look oval, and the crowd look like hobbits, you need to adjust the image!
Thanks for your comment. This was one of my first videos on the channel. I think I have a better way to doing it now.
My favorite are THE car or the century Porsche 917, then Ford gt40, Porsche 956/962..,Special mention to Rondeau at home and forgotten Dauer...
