A PRIVATE TOUR of the UYUNI SALT FLATS (Bolivia)

- After hiking through the Bolivian Andes, I decided to power through 12 hours of bus rides to explore this remote part of Bolivia. When was I going to get this chance again?
It’s no exaggeration to say that the Uyuni Salt Flats of Bolivia (Salar de Uyuni) are one of the most striking places on I’ve ever seen. Formed very recently from the evaporation of an ancient lake, the Uyuni Salt Flats cover a staggering 4000 square miles (11,000 square km), more than enough room for the hundreds of tourists who might be simultaneously exploring them on the same day as you.
If you want to drop the money, I highly recommend a private tour, especially if you want to shoot drone footage. Otherwise, you’re more tied to the group schedule. It also gives you more opportunity to interact with your guide. I had a great time with my friendly and knowledgeable guide Aida Belen.

What an incredible adventure. Another thing to knock off the bucket list. :) edit: BTW, the salt flats reminded me of the popcorn wall texture, haha.
It was definitely one of the most spectacular places on earth. The dinner on the flats at sunset was surreal. 🤯
Nice place , aweosome
Una buena aventura!
Q video informativo 🎉
Great place ❤❤❤
Impresionante 👏
Way cool adventure.
It was one of the most spectacular places I’ve ever been to. 👌
Incredible! Going soon, can you please share which tour company you used and how much did it cost?
Thanks for watching! I paid about $350 for a 1 day private tour with Hidalgo Tours, and I was very happy with them. My guide, Aida, also recommended Joker Expeditions if Hidalgo is not available.
It looks like you had an amazing experience! I’m also planning a trip there, but I really want to go when the flat is reflective. Did your guide tell you when the salt flat is reflective?
It definitely was! I was there the first week of July, which is during their dry season so you’re more likely to get a clear sunset like I did. I was lucky that they’d had a decent rainy season and cool weather, so there was still a very large area of water that all the tours drove to to watch the sunset. Note that this time is their winter, so it was below freezing in the evening. 🥶
If you go during their rainier seasons, you might have more water, but you also might have cloud cover. Personally, I’m glad I went during their dry season because the flawless sunset was mind blowing!
I highly recommend Hidalgo Tours, but my guide (Aida Maria Belen, Instagram @aidushita) also recommended Joker Expedition. And request Aida, she works with both agencies. 👌
This was honestly the best sunset I’ve ever seen, I highly recommend it!
What tour company did you choose for this? I’m looking to go in June of 2024!
I went with Hidalgo Expeditions, but my guide told me that Joker Expeditions was a good one, too. I recommend booking long before you go as the tours may fill up. I highly recommend my guide Aida (her insta is in the video description). Good luck, and have fun!
@@MiguelGomezMountainRunner thank you so much!! This is very helpful! I was looking at Quechua Connection but there is no formal booking info on the website so I’m confused. Have a nice day :)
Is this the only place in the world that has salt on the ground
Hi Howard, there are many salt flats throughout the world, but the Uyuni Salt Flat is the largest one in the world. 👍
I know late comment, but what time of year were you there?
Hi Anh, I was there in June, which is their dry season, but actually their winter, as well, so very cold! 🥶
@@MiguelGomezMountainRunner I was curious because I am going in late October, I know It should be warm around that time
I'm going with my father who is from Bolivia and I'd like to make plans with the tour company you used since the experience looked amazing!
@@LexyAnh Great! I highly recommend a private tour if it’s not too expensive. Contact Aida directly, she’s an excellent guide. 👍
how far are you from mt.tunupa ?
Hi Julian, Mt. Tunupa is on the north end of the salt flats, so we were about 20 miles away.
