Forging a TACTICAL MACHETE out of a Rusty Leaf Spring

  • Hello friends!
    In this project I tried to forge a machete from an old rusty spring. The forging process took a little time, but in total, it took me 10 days to bring this project to life.
    The handle of the forged machete is made of Wenge oak, and the leaf spring steel used to make the machete is super strong and resilient after hardening.

    Nice work man. Not actually forged just stock removal. A good tip, before quenching, make sure you have no sharp edges. Don't take your bevels to done. This causes stress rises leading to micro cracking. Instead leave about a dull 2mm. 😉👌

    What a beautiful piece of art and so effective I love the file work on the handle and the two stage bevel angle it's like a trapper knife on steroids lol the fact that you made that with minimal equipment showed me that I can do something like this if I put my mind to it absolutely inspiring thank you for your video I love it!

      Was gonna say he could've got a much bigger blade and better profile from forging but hey good grinding 🤷

    Beautiful work, and a practical looking design for the type of tool this is. This is a big chopper rather than a machete. If it was me, I’d bring the grind up all the way to spine, takes some weight out of it, and improve cutting ability. As it is, it has a similar geometry to a thick Kukri. Overall, great job 👍

    Nice job. Just a little warning to everyone else who consider working with wenge wood, the fibers are sharp as they come, and do not remove as other splinters, they actually dig deeper if you are not careful. But it's totally worth while if you protect yourself and go easy working with it..

  • @danijelovskikanal7017
    @danijelovskikanal7017 Рік тому +6

    Great. But not exactly forged. It's just cut out of a metal bar.
    This way of making tools is also good, but they will not be as durable, because forged steel is stronger. When you just cut it out like this, the grain is all in one direction, which makes the blade more vulnerable to getting blunt.

    Not really “forging” a machete.

    • @makeitlikenew
      @makeitlikenew  9 місяців тому

      Why?

    • @Ladiesmantwooneseven
      @Ladiesmantwooneseven 8 місяців тому

      Because forging means you take pieces of metal and forge (hammer) them to one solid piece. After that you form the metal by hammering it to the desired shape. With blades you fold them many times to remove impurities and also flatten it out to your own designs. Although the blade is really beautiful and you did a great craftsmanship, it is not Forged by your hands. What you did was more cutting/grinding it to form. Yes you did flatten it out, but that doesn’t count as forging.
